Hi All,
I am 58 years old and scheduled for October 14. I am more scared to death then excited. I have been going through a lot of stress in my life these past 6 months with family issues and honestly hope this will not effect my recovery. My question to you all is would you ever do this again? How was your recovery and how long before you returned to work. Also some of you mentioned you had highs and lows, can you explain this further to me? Thanks!!

Welcome to the community.  The nerves are a bit much before surgery but try to relax.    You really do need to lower the stress for your recovery process.  I would definitely do this all over again if needed.  I love my results and it was worth everything I went through to get them.   It is a longer recovery but one well worth it.  I went back to week a little over 3 weeks post op.  Each person is different but I highly recommend a minimum of 2 weeks off work.  You need to really pamper yourself for the first 6 weeks post op.

Jump into the Tummy Tuck Forums and you will make great connections there.  Also check out my Notebooks for some great guides.

Thanks for your reply! I am glad you would do it again if you had to and everything went well for you. What was your pain level and what did you take for pain? Did you have Lipo as well?
August 31, 2016

The first 4 days I was at a pain level 6 or 7.  I was prescribed Vicodin and also layered that with Ibuprofen.  I also had the lipo and those were the areas that were most painful.  It was an awful burning sensation.  The trick is to stay on top of the pain meds as prescribed which really helps.

Ok thanks. My doctor said that his patients usually do not feel any pain and do not need a pain pump. I find that hard to believe. I will request a pain pump but I am afraid of becoming constipated.

I am only five days out and I can say I'd do it again!!!! You'll be ABSOLUTELY fine. Trust me. I had a lot, if not all, of the same fears as you.

I am 59 My hubby really stepped up. More then I ever expected. You will need help the first week At least the first few days. I had the worse pain day 3. Had doc appointment that day and cried most of the time. After that pain but bearable. I also hardly used pain meds as I already have problems with constipation. I don't feel percoset helps much anyway. I may have used 5 of them. I am 6 weeks out go back to doc next week. I work 12 hour shifts so my first week back was rough. I am hurting when I get home but am not pain free anyway. It takes time to heal. I had to switch to. Aleve as I got a rash from Tylenol I think. Never really used before and was taking every 4 hours. I had experal and I think it helps a lot. Feeling to tummy not all back yet. I read it can take a year. Didn't know that. My biggest problem was CG I hate anything tight or on stomach. Yeh. Wrong surgery to have. I found a maidenform without seams I could use and had to get extra large started with medium. NO WAY. I tried them on preop. Post op a different story I followed directions still not lifting over 8 pounds or over doing it. Still on low sodium diet. Slowing increasing. Best part I lost 8 pounds. Had little appetite for 4 weeks. MR decreases what you can eat. That's a plus so portions are down and I think weight will stay off. I also had drainless so glad for that. Good luck

When did you go back to work? Did you use a pain pump? What was your pain level like?

I was off for 25 days. Could have used another week. I'm on my feet Work 12 hours in hospital. First two weeks were rough. I'm 7weeks post today. Still have pain and numbness By the time I get home I'm beat, but each week shoes improvement. I had experal. I don't like pain meds don't think they help much plus constipation. Mainly used Tylenol after a few days. It was bareable. I go see doc Thursday it takes some time. Guess I heal slower then these younger gals that are already back at the gym. I was doing yard work and packing(selling house) this weekend and done in by end of day. My energy level is slowly returning. That is the hard part. I'm use to being busy and I work a lot.

Hi All,

I have been on this site for the past year. I can not believe all the support! It makes this journey a little easier. I am very nervous about this whole thing. Being under for 4 hours scares the crap out of me plus the recovery. Has anyone done any of these procedures with Dr. Palaia? Were you happy? Any photos to share? He claims the pain will be minimal with this all. What was everyone's recovery like? What was your pain level? And when did you return to work? When did you actually feel normal again? Also would you ever get this done again if you had too? Anything else you can share about your experience would be helpful! Thanks!!

I am very scared too. Still building the courage to do this. But through it all, the ladies say they would do it again in a heart beat. Tummy tuck is the most rewarding out of all the other cosmetic surgeries.
Everyone says, drink lots of water, walk a little when you go to the bathroom, stay ahead of the pain with pains meds around the clock especially for the first few days, have someone to help you and keep you company.

Have you asked about exparel? It's a local long lasting anesthetic giving to you during the surgery. Doctors have been raving about it and read many patients' reviews and seems like a game changer.
Best of luck, I will be following your journey.

PS: get all your pain meds filled before surgery and ask for muscle relaxers if he hasn't already prescribed them for you and laxatives.

Also, talk to the doctor about giving you anti nausea medicine in an IV if you get sick from anesthesia.

Thanks! It's at 7:30 am tomorrow! Say a prayer for me!!! Haven't slept in 3 days.

I didn't sleep the week before mine. I have some insomnia from just getting old HAHA but since surgery not one day of it. Had my last appointment two days ago. I'm 7 weeks. Do what you are told. Don't be in such a hurry to return to normalcy. I was told pain can last 5 months. Still have pulling too and numbness. Can't believe am this far past. Hang in there the first few weeks. Every week is a baby step of progress.

I'm 8 weeks and still have pain. Only took pain meds a few days. I was more worried about constpation then the pain. It's bearable. Doc told me last week the pain and numbness lasts up to 5 months. I think being older I'm more cossious I didn't over do and still not even doing yoga. It will all come in time. I didn't do this to screw it up. Rest for now and do as doc tells you and you will be fine. It's a bigger surgery then you think till it's done.

Hi all! I am 5 days po and I have to say, I am not sure if I would do this again. It's very painful and if you have a bad back it's brutal. No bm either yet which is adding to the issue. I also feel I had some hearing loss due to the surgery, I am hoping as days go on things will improve. Really think about this before you have this done. It's not an easy surgery.

Hi Dunndee, how are you feeling now? I still have tightness, numbing and swelling at 5 weeks. I tried to lay on my side for 5 mins and boy was that a mistake! Hurt for 3 days! This is a tough journey. I love the flat belly but was it all worth it? I am not sure yet. Recovery is way to long for me. I am tired on sleeping on my back! What are your thoughts??
