Scar Removal/herniated Incision Repair - New York

WORTH IT$25,000
I had several things I wanted fixed - a herniated incision from a gall bladder removal and nerve damage during previous surgery caused a "dead" muscle that made a buckle in my abdominal wall, causing me to be lopsided. Dr. Taranow inserted a mesh to accomplish these goals, removed the gall bladder scar and an old appendectomy scar, took out internal scar tissue and fat to smooth out my overall appearance. Dr. Taranow was great. He's very good about doing exactly what he feels he can do well. He explains everything well, and answers every question. The actual surgery with him went very well, and he was very attentive and accessible post-surgery. Unfortunately (as he feared) the mesh on the large muscle area did not hold, but the rest of my abdomen came out very well. He was able to save my navel (which was a question). The scar is very flat and thin for this procedure, I expect it will have completely faded within another year. My overall appearance is much improved and I'm very glad I did it.

Dr. Taranow was very clear and straightforward and very realistic about what could and couldn't be accomplished in my case. He told me it was iffy whether or not we could pull the muscle in but we would try (the other goals he felt more certain about). He charged me $10,000 upfront, with the caveat that if the insurance paid well, he would refund some of that. His surgery went well. However he had recommended the surgeon whose space we used (Dr. Paul Rosenberg) to do some under-eye work for me at the same time as this surgery (using fat injections). That procedure went very wrong, and that doctor's dealings with me were very unsatisfactory - I am still 18 months later trying to reverse it, have spent $2000 so far and still don't have my face back. Dr. Taranow felt so bad and (rightly, I think) responsible for having put me in that situation, so when the insurance paid for the abdominal surgery, he refunded a larger amount ($4000) to help cover the cost of undoing the damage Dr. Rosenberg did. Dr. Taranow was always very responsive and responsible and helpful. I would highly recommend Dr. Taranow for any abdominal or breast work you wanted done.
