I haven't been able to breathe through my nose for as long as I can remember. At 27, I finally got fed up with being a mouth breather and made an appointment with an ENT. I did a ton of research and came across Dr. Westreich; he had impressive reviews, went to a great medical school, and was on ZocDoc (not a fan of calling to make appointments). I decided that if I was going to have nasal surgery to fix structural issues, I might as well get some cosmetic work done too. I liked that his before and after photos looked natural and didn't have that fake look that so many rhinoplasty patients end up with.
The first time I met with Dr. Westreich, I was surprised by how friendly and down to earth he was. Based on his credentials, I was expecting someone who was full of himself, but this was definitely not the case. After he explained to me what needed to be done and showed me a digital image of how my cosmetic result would look, I decided to put a deposit down to hold my surgery date.
My surgery took place at Mt. Sinai and everything went very smoothly. I got my deviated septum fixed, my turbinates reduced, and a partial profile plasty to remove a small bump and thin my bridge a little. I also got a spreader graft to fix a partial valve collapse on my right side and a columellar graft to ensure that my tip maintains its height. I paid for the cosmetic portion out of pocket and my insurance company covered the septoplasty/turbinoplasty/grafts (approximately half the cost of the entire surgery).
The healing process during the first week was not fun, but it wasn’t brutal. When I got the cast off after one week, I loved my nose. Dr. Westreich warned me that with subtle rhinoplasties, the nose can look even larger where the bump was removed due to swelling and formation of calluses over the bone. It’s been a month since my surgery and I still have a fair bit of swelling, but I’m remaining patient since it takes a full year for the final cosmetic result to appear. Luckily, my breathing has already improved drastically and I’m no longer a mouth breather.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Dr. Westreich and I love my result so far. His staff was wonderful throughout the entire process (especially Ossie & Crystal) and my surgical team at Mt. Sinai was great as well.

I’m looking to get the same as you :-) just wondering if insurance covered the septoplasty and if so how much extra did you hav to pay for rhino?
So happy for you! Thank you for sharing on RealSelf.
