My surgery was a necessity for me. I needed to be able to chew my food properly and have been putting it off for years because i was afraid and also the financial cost. After many years my chewing got worse and i made a decision to have the surgery and had a consultation with Dr. Majid Jamali. After meeting with him i made the decision that same day because he was very informative. He took time to explain the steps i needed to prepare me for the surgery. I first saw an orthodontist whom he recommended and she told me i had to remove a total of 8 teeth including my wisdom teeth. I made the appointment with Dr.j and he took all 8 teeth in one appointment. I got to the hospital on the day of the surgery and was very nervous but the doctor assure me all with me fine. When i woke from surgery i had no pain until later that night . I woke up the next morning all swollen and shocked to see my face when i went into the bathroom. the first week was the most difficult time for me. I had no appetite and was coughing up blood and mucus. My nose was clogged up. I even question myself. Did i made the right choice. It's now 2 months since i had the surgery and i am not able to chew as yet but all the swollen is gone and my jaws are healing. I am working with my orthodontist to adjust the jaw to it's new place. it's amazing i look into my mouth and i cannot believe i have screws and bolts inside. i don't see any scars i am looking forward to the days when i can eat a salad with a lot cashews and raisins inside.

Hello, just wondering how you are doing? I am 62 years old and had jaw surgery 8 days ago. I am in a suburb of Philadelphia.

Do you happen to remember the name of your orthodontist I'm in desperate need of a good orthodontist
What surgery did you have specifically, and what was the initial estimate for how long you'd have to wait before you'd be healed. Also, did you have braces first or are you doing them now? So many questions, but I'll start with those!
Thanks again :)
