I went back and forth deciding what to do about this mole on my cheek that I hated. A few people told me it was special and made me unique (a la Cindy Crawford), but in reality I knew I would be happier with a scar that would fade over time than a mole which couldn't be covered up. I finally took the plunge and decided to get it removed. I talked to a few doctors, but felt the most comfortable with a plastic surgeon for the procedure. Feel free to message with any questions, I know this process can be uneasy!

Hi, I have scheduled excision of my facial mole on April 20th, my doctor is a dermatologist surgeon. Did you have any special preparations before the procedure to bust your healing process and how did you treated the scar afterwords. I heard something about silicon? Thanks

Stay out of the sun as much as possible before! honestly see how my face looks in my mid 20's i wish i used sf 80 my whole life. I bought the silicon scar cream recommended by my plastic surgeon called biocorneium) which has SPF in it. apparently you can't let the scar see the sun for a while after to promote fast healing.

this is the scar cream recommended to me, and i bought it at the doctors office: http://www.amazon.com/bioCorneum-plus-Advanced-Scar-Supervision/dp/B00AV14GTE

Np, good luck!

Did he mention how long the area around the scar would be red? For a guy that doesn't have the make-up option I'm a little worried about it.
March 26, 2015
The red on my face was due to my allergic reaction to the bandaid, which developed after having it on so long. Now the area is no longer red, but it took about 3 weeks completely for the redness to die down. Definitely speak up if you think you'll have an allergy to the bandaid or the glue/cream they put under it!

Hello, how long were the stitches in for ? When did you feel comfortable returning back to work/school/life? I have a mole on my face I'm getting removed, but I hate the idea of going out in public with the stitches exposed :-/. When were you able to start covering it up with make up?
March 26, 2015
I felt the same way! They actually put a skin colored bandage on my face that I wasn't allowed to touch, so I never saw the stitches. That picture was from the doctor when they removed the bandaid. Stitches have to be on for 5-7 days, but even when they are taken out you have to leave the bandaid on for another 5 days at least. So expect 10 days - 2 weeks with the bandaid. It didn't bother me that much! I was embarrassed at first, but then I quickly got over. 2 weeks of bandaid is worth a lifetime of clearer skin :). I wasn't able to use makeup until I got the 2nd bandaid removed, but now 3 weeks from the procedure, my face isn't red anymore!

For me, I was most nervous about the bandaid because people would know I had a treatment done and I was self conscious about the mole. If it helps, you can lie and tell people it was for medical reasons (i.e. fear of melonoma) instead of cosmetic reasons...maybe people will judge less :)

Hi there, and welcome! Thanks for sharing your journey with us. How is your recovery going?

March 25, 2015
Hey! Looks good. I had the same exact procedure about 8 years ago for a very similiar mole in nearly the exact location. Right now I'm in the process of getting subcision done to reduce the scar. If in the future you need that, it's a good option! My scar sunk after a few years. Just some thoughts :)

Oh thank you so much, thats great advice! Ho long after the procedure would I be able to get treatment to reduce the scar? I wanted to ASAP :)

Photos with and without makeup, 7 weeks after the surgery. Looks good so far! You can see the scar, but it doesn't bother me that much, and the area around it isn't red. I need to figure out a better makeup regime now...any suggestions for good heavy concealers that won't look cakey?

Did you get it removed by a plastic surgeon? Did he/she say that the scar will fade even more after a year?
May 15, 2015
Yep! You can also get some laser treatments done to minimize the scar, but I think they can't be done until at least the 6 month mark.
May 16, 2015
Ya it already looks really good. I have a scar from a cat scratch in the exact same place looks exactly the same. It's been 7 months and the scar looks how yours looks only after 2 months. I didn't get stitches so it looks like I'm going to need to remove it and then get laser. Yours looks like it's gonna be good to go. Especially since a ps did it!
May 20, 2015
thanks! too funny about your cat :)
May 15, 2015
How long is the scar?
May 15, 2015
i think about 1 inch. it has to be longer than the mole so they can completely remove it.
May 26, 2015
My favorite by far is Neutrogena healthy skin liquid concealer if you aren't looking to spend big $$$. It covers nicely and you can apply multiple layers without it looking cakey. Looks good though!
May 27, 2015
oh thanks i will check it out!

Hi. I am curious how your scar looks now. Can you update any Picture please?

Hello, I'm planning to get a mole removed from my face (it is on my cheek). My question is when did you start using make-up on it? how many days passed from the surgery and stitch removal when you could start using make up? is using make up on it makes the healing process slower or worse? I'm just wondering because after I will have it removed it will be so difficult for me to go among people.
