Happy 50th to Me...I Don't Feel or Act 50, Why Should my Face Look 50? - New York, NY

ORIGINAL POST

I had always looked young for my age, until 8...

WORTH IT
I had always looked young for my age, until 8 years ago when I had a complete hysterectomy. My face started aging before my eyes. In pictures taken 6 months apart I literally looked liked I had aged 2 years. I had toyed with the idea of a nip here and a tuck there, but never thought I'd really be able to do it. As 50 started knocking on the door I decided I was going to fight aging every step of the way. I researched and met with several surgeons and there really was no one that even came close to Dr. Romo, and his staff, as a top contender for consideration...not one. I spoke with Dr. Romo personally several times on the phone before we even did the "official" phone consultation...he always made time to answer any questions and sooth any nerves. His office staff, Diane and Michelle, go above and beyond to make you feel like you are the only patient they are dealing with...always pleasant, get back to you quickly if you have to leave a message, professional, knowledgable, polite, helpful, and genuinely kind and caring. During my first in person meeting with Dr. Romo, he explained everything about the operation in great detail, and in a way I would understand without being condescending. He told me what to expect in the recovery room, the first pot-op day, and the rest of healing process at each "benchmark" stage. He answered every question I had, and I never once felt rushed or like "just another patient." He is professional and very personable, as is his office staff, and all of the staff I dealt with at the surgical center. Dr. Romo visited me in my hotel room (across the street from the surgical center) the morning after surgery for my first post-op check and personally called me every day or two until my next in-person check-up. I had a lower lid blesph, neck lipo and lift with small amount of fat transfer, chin implant, face and brow lift. This may sound like a lot, and it is, but I truly needed it all...not once did Dr. Romo try to "upsell" or add procedures I didn't need or want. In fact, I asked about a couple of additional procedures and he said I didn't need them...he said he could and would do them, but it would be a waste of my money. My husband is a general surgeon and he is truly amazed at the skills that Dr. Romo has...my husband is simply stunned at how well hidden the suture lines are, as well as the quality of them...surgical perfection! If you are considering ANY facial procedure, I highly recommend Dr. Thomas Romo III!

Oh wow! You had a lot done. So glad you are pleased! We'd love to see your before and after photos if you'd feel comfortable putting some up.

I have before pictures and have been taking pictures each day since the operation (I'm about 9 days post-op)...I'm building up the courage to post them! A BIG thank you to everyone who has posted pictures...you are all an inspiration! :)

Hope you work up the courage to post your before and after pics. Would love to see them!

Thanks, Wex! I go back to work on Monday...maybe with the hair done and some make-up on I might get a good dose of courage, too! The worst part for me seems to be the wacky sensation on my scalp where the flap is...I watch a lot of horror films (my guilty pleasure) and it feels like I'm wearing someone else's scalp...the sensation makes it difficult for me to do much with my hair. BUT...I've gotten a lot of inspiration for others' before & after pics, so I think it's only fair I join in...stay tuned! :)

I will do that. You are echoing StillSouthern who commented on her own "face transplant"!

HA! I guess it's a common thing!

Glad you got your review up, sounds like everything went great, and your surgeon? Visiting in your room, wow that's some great follow up care! I'm a month out and still feel 'odd' in places, not numb, just...different? I am still swollen, primarily jawline but also in front of ears. I healed super fast the first 2 weeks, then all my (ordered) supplements ran out, including arnica, and I got a bad cold and wasn't taking such great care of myself. Now I'm feeling good again and taking the supplements again and I feel like my healing is shifting back into gear, def less swollen in just the last few days. Enough about me ugh lol... Congrats!

PS, My biggest concern right now is the fat transfer, so any insights or progress you can share is greatly appreciated XO
January 4, 2015
No worries...I love hearing from & about you!! I had some Arnica left over from my mommy makeover last year, so I've been faithfully taking that from day 1. I'm day 10 post-op this evening and just checked...will be running out in a few days, so if my face reacts like yours I imagine I should get some more. I very much "get" the "different" feeling...I'm experiencing it, too. Also, my BP is still fairly low and I tire easily...it wore me out today just showering and blowdrying my hair (which took forever as I have a lot of thick hair and finger dried (instead of a styling brush) on the cool setting). My hair isn't looking or acting great either as I'm not using any styling product...any idea when I can begin that again...I forgot to ask my PS, but imagine I can call on Monday and one of the gals can tell me.

Oh...the fat transfer...I, too, was freaked about that and unsure if I really wanted to do it or not. My husband and I both agreed I needed "something," but fat transfer can be tricky so we were thinking maybe some type of filler after the FL recovery. My PS did minimal fat transfer and so far so good...it looks and feels natural. I've looked back at my pics from day 1 & 2 and can see very small B&B points where he injected it. No lumps, no bumps, no over-filled look. Thanks for chatting with me...it's really helping me get through...some days I'm up and some days I'm bleh. Heck, some hours I'm up and then some hours I'm bleh! LOL!! :)

I wasn't sure where my fat was injected but that's a great idea to look at the early pics. I 'know' the cheeks, I have little marks, and I remember blood (ugh) aaaannnnddd, I think that's prob the spot where it 'took' the best. I have a 'lump' on my jawline that I think is fat for the marionette/pre jowl area, but it's lower than the other side. I'm going to go look at my early pics, thanks for the idea :)

Thank you so much for your input. I'm going in on Friday.....Not real sure how I feel, however I am really leery about the laser treatments under my eyes and all around my mouth, Dr Newman does not want me using ice packs or peas,,,just wet frozen gauze an the eyes. These are supposed to scab off 2-3 time a day tip skin is pink. yuck...any advise?
January 5, 2015
My surgeon didn't have me using ice packs on my eyes...only gauze wet in iced water and changed frequently. I did have crushed ice in a very soft fluffy sock-type thing for my neck. I've never had laser treatments under my eyes...I might be leery of that, too. Best of luck...you'll do fine!!

As the time flies by...can't believe today is three weeks...I'm beginning to see improvements nearly daily...swelling is going down and bruises are fading quickly now. I admit it takes SO much longer to get ready in the morning with all of the different layers of shades and types of concealers/foundation/blush, etc...and three times as long to take it all off at night, but I know it's worth it...and this part won't last too much longer. Also takes longer to gently wash/condition/dry hair, but slowly getting faster. I was taking post-op progress pictures daily until the two week point...won't bore you with the day to day progress, but completely spaced on taking a three week pic today, which stinks because I have really seen a lot of progress over this last week. Maybe I'll remember tomorrow. At least I'm no longer obsessed about studying my face each day and feeling the need for daily pictures...guess I'm getting back on with my life! :) Next visit with Dr. Romo III is coming up on Monday. Can't say enough great things about him and his staff...before, during, and after/follow-ups! Highly recommend!

You look wonderful, at least 20 years younger! Love the new look! (I think I need a makeover :/ )
January 15, 2015
Thank you SO much, SS...you made my day! :)
January 15, 2015
You look lovely. You had great eyes to start with, so he didn't have to do much there. Your profile is just beautiful. So glad you're happy.
January 15, 2015
Thanks so much, Wex! I forgot just how much extra I had on my upper lids until I looked at the "before" profile...WOW! Such a difference! My major concerns were the bags below my eyes (and festoons that will continue to pose a problem), my jowls, and my neck. But looking back at the profile and the top lids, so glad I included the slight brow lift.
January 15, 2015
And the chin implant...how could I forget that?! That really helps with the profile, too!! :)
January 24, 2015
Looking good!

Day 30...woo-hoo!

AliceCooper
Healing continues to be going well...swelling and bruising decreasing while range of motion is increasing and stiffness is lessening. Feeling better by the day! Had a few "stubborn" bruises that just didn't seem to be going away. Had a check up with Dr. Romo III on Monday and began taking RAC, which is part of his Rapid Recovery plan. I feel amazing and the "stubborn" bruises are gone. THRILLED!!! :)

Love the new look. Thanks for sharing your experience and pictures, they are very helpful. It doesn't seem like you bruised as badly as some of the pics that I have seen. What kind of facelift did you have? Also, what is the RAC that you were taking.

Wow -- day 30 -- how exciting -- I remember my 30 days saying "ok" worse is over -- and it was - but now you will see that down the line even farther -- "man" it just gets better --- I think I took a picture at 30 day a profile photo and I thought this is good - nice neck line -- now almost 12 months "no this is Good" :)

Excellent to hear...thanks for sharing...it's been six more days and you're right...every week is better! :)

What type of plastic surgery did you have? Did he do the eyes? Is RAC a vitamin? What is it made of ? I couldn't tap on the link below. Thank you!
