WORTH IT
I am writing this post after a pretty major surgery last month (breast reduction and lift) handled by Dr. Adam Schaffner who works out of Park Avenue Aesthetic. I planned to be one of those people who researched, consulted and visited many plastic surgeons prior to making this life changing decision (and large expense). I found Dr. Schaffner after seeing what amazing reviews he had online for reductions and figured the free consultation would be a good start. Immediately I was greeted by the front office staff warmly. Once I met with Dr. Schaffner, I was extremely impressed by not only his knowledge of the procedure, but his overall intelligence and detail oriented traits. Every step of the way was treated with kindness, patience and unparalleled skill - and his team (from the nurses to the anesthesiologist to Jo Marie at the financing department) were incredibly professional and talented. I feel so fortunate to have trusted my gut and gone with my first consultation. Every followup thereafter has been just as detailed, I honestly can see why he was so well rated online! I felt compelled to post because I want everyone to know that Dr. Adam Schaffner deserves all the good press. I wish I had met him and done this sooner, he absolutely changed my life! Thank you to Dr. Schaffner and the wonderful staff of Park Ave Aesthetic for all that you do :)
Welcome to the community and thanks so much for offering your opinion of your doctor.
It would be great if you could give us a little more detail about your experience, like why you had the surgery, your tips for getting good results, pros/cons, and info on the recovery process.
Our community members especially love seeing photos from before, during, and after — a realistic look at what they can expect. Photos grab the attention of the community and encourage more support for you.
As a community manager, I get requests all the time from other members who want me to to keep encouraging people to share their experiences, which are so helpful for others considering these procedures. So please accept this as a well-intentioned request from thousands.
I would be happy to post more details, but the photos I am not comfortable putting online.
i have had an extremely large size since I was a teenager, but as I got older, I got larger. I went from about an E cup and am now a comfortable 36-38D (still recovering so the true size I will find out within the next year!).
Here are some tips that I found that will absolutely help someone who is considering this -
1. Be honest with your doctor. What you are hoping to achieve. But let him use his expertise to guide you as well. I went in pretty set on being a low D or maybe even a high C. I want bra shopping to be easier, exercise (I do pilates!) options to be better. Dr. Schaffner explained that he looks at what will be comfortable but also PROPORTIONATE to my body. So important, I hadn't even considered that!
2. You will want to invest in more pillows as you will be sleeping on your back for many weeks. This was tough for me. I am a side sleeper naturally. I used the extra pillows I purchased (I paid $12 for sets of 2 so don't go crazy!), to build a fort around me and prop up my head, arms, and feet during sleep. You will be sleeping A LOT in the first week so consider this a comfort investment. It helps when your body mid-sleep naturally wants to roll to its side, the pillows protected me as a barrier.
3. If you're having any difficulties / anxieties prior or post surgery, even at appointments, let your doctor know. I'm naturally really squeamish so I did let Dr. Schaffner know this from the start, and he vocalized EVERY step of the way, everything he was doing had an explanation. It really helped make the process comfortable and easy.
4. Someone will need to help you shower - I bought a stool for the shower so I could sit, and had my sister wash my hair (about 2 days after surgery since I had drains and needed to be careful). There was no way I would've been able to lift my arms or thoroughly clean my hair, so find a trusted family member or buddy to assist.
4. Plan to buy quite a few post-surgery bras. I was specific in wanting black, because it would blend better under my clothing. But you will want to have the option to change them frequently, especially after work or if you're still healing in certain areas. In Manhattan, we do not have daily access to laundry rooms and you shouldn't be lifting anyway, so consider 4-6 bras even though you'll only need them for 2 months. It's longer than you think :)
This was the best decision I've made for myself. Be okay with asking questions, asking family and friends to assist - you are focusing on YOU.
Hope this helps and best of luck to everyone!
