I had my Breast Augmentation on December 20th,...

I had my Breast Augmentation on December 20th, 2012. I got 400/375 CCs Silicone implants with an incision beneath the breast. Making the decision to get the surgery was a very long process that I did not take lightly. I knew the health risks that I was taking when I decided to have this done because I am a smoker, which affects the healing process and puts you at more risk than the next girl for complications. I know it seems like “Well, Quit then!” but try it… it isn’t fun. So I accepted these risks and worked around them. Dr. Engler was the first, and only, doctor that I saw; but that was not for lack of trying. I am from Long Island, New York and when I started looking for a doctor, I came upon RealSelf and decided to schedule a consultation when I saw all of the good reviews of him. Between scheduling the consultation and actually going to it, I SEARCHED the internet for any doctor that I could find that would have an equivalent reputation. Every doctor I came upon had reviews saying that they either did bad work, or that they did good work but did not really care about their patients and kind of disappeared afterwards, which is something that I just could not have. So I didn’t find any others, and figured I would just continue to search after my consultation with Dr. Engler. I did not want to go with the first doctor I met with, I wanted to have options and meet with numerous doctors before making an informed decision on who to go with. That all changed after my first consultation. I work in Nassau County, but I work 9-6 5 days a week at a small company that makes it impossible to take off a day, which was proving to cause difficulties getting a consultation anywhere, especially in New York City where it would take me about an hour to get there after work (especially with the rush hour traffic!). I was very surprised Dr. Engler was able to speak with me via e-mail and I was able to send him pictures as an initial consultation, and we discussed options on the phone so I didn’t have to take any time off of work. Eventually, it was obvious that I had to go in to see him, so he came in on a Saturday to meet with me. No other doctor that I had attempted to make appointments with had offered me this, and I was very impressed and grateful that he would come in on a Saturday to see me. It showed that he cared about his patients. So I went in to see him on a Saturday. When I walked in the door, I was greeted by one of the friendliest girls I have ever met. It turned out that his entire staff was just as nice. There was absolutely no judgment, and all of the staff was so supportive. When I met Dr. Engler, I was so scared! I had a million questions that I had typed up and sent to him in an email. We sat and discussed all of my questions, and Dr. Engler patiently answered them all. He worked with my high risks and limited the size he would give me to ensure I wouldn’t be hurt because of my smoking. I was grateful that he was telling me that he wouldn’t go as big as I was asking because he made it obvious that he was looking out for my health first and foremost, which is the most important thing. He wasn’t pushy or trying to talk me into the surgery at all. He even told me NOT to get the surgery if my concerns were too large. This made me feel so much better because he really isn’t in it for the money like so many other surgeons out there that treat their patients like a number and just talk them into spending their money with them. He also pointed out that one of my breasts was enough bigger than the other that he would recommend using two different size implants. As time went on, Dr. Engler made a second appointment with me on a Saturday to discuss concerns, and eventually give him paperwork (consent forms) for the surgery. I had to get some pre-opp bloodwork done, but I did it at work and didn’t have my prescription. I called his office and the girl at the front had the prescriptions faxed over to the office in minutes. When I lost my prescriptions for the meds I needed (antibiotics and muscle relaxers), she called my local pharmacy and had it ready for me within minutes. She helped me every time I needed her, because his entire staff is incredibly supportive and eager to help.

On the day of surgery, I brought my entire family with me. Everybody was petrified. For weeks before the surgery, I was so scared. But all I had to do was tell myself that Dr. Engler is the best there is, and that he wouldn’t let anything happen to me. I truly trust him. We had a short meeting where he walked me through the procedure and took a few more pictures. I met the anesthesiologist, who was so nice. I was obviously freaking out, and he calmed me down so much. He answered all my questions and explained the process so thoroughly that my fears subsided a bit. After the short meeting, Dr. Engler let my family come in to the room and say good luck, and brought me into the operating room. It still amazes me that he does his surgeries in his office. It makes you feel so much more comfortable than in a cold, strange hospital that you haven’t ever been to. I was still so scared that I was shaking. When I told the anesthesiologist that I was terrified of needles, he actually numbed my wrist before putting my IV in! I didn’t even feel it! When he noticed that I was still having a panic attack, he put something in my IV that made me not even care about a thing in the world. Dr. Engler did the procedure and even told me that his staff hates him sometimes because he doesn’t let anybody else do anything in his surgeries, which made me so much more comfortable. The entire procedure was very fast, and I woke up in the recovery room asking for my family. Dr. Engler let them come in and say hello to me, and then insisted that I rest before I left. Not being rushed out was amazing. I have heard such war stories of other surgeons that treat their patients like cattle and rush them through the process. Dr. Engler let me take as long as I needed, and I woke up on my own. There was absolutely no rush, and he was there when I woke up. He helped me out to my car and informed my parents of some post-opp care. After the surgery, he called me every day to check up on me and make sure things were going okay, and answer all of the questions that I had. It was so nice to know that he was still interested and there for me. I was sore for a while, but honestly, I didn’t experience ANY strong pain that I couldn’t take, and I am such a baby when it comes to pain. It has been 14 days since my surgery and I am running around like nothing ever happened. On Christmas I was up and moving and, although still a little sore, not in any real pain.

Getting this surgery is a scary process. You always hear the war stories of botched plastic surgery and see the results of surgeries gone wrong. When you are working with Dr. Engler, these fears are subsided because you know that you’re in the best hands possible. He is there for you every step of the way, and he also provides free visits every year after your surgery.. For only the price of the surgery! He and his entire staff will make you feel at home and ease any of your fears. You can trust that you are in the best hands when going to this doctor, and I will recommend him to any person I ever meet that is considering plastic surgery. My breasts look amazing, and this surgery was the best decision I have ever made. My self-confidence has skyrocketed and all of my friends say they look great and if they didn't know me before, wouldn't even know I had them done! I couldn’t have imagined they would look this good and it is all thanks to Dr. Engler.
