After a double whammy – breast cancer with a...

After a double whammy – breast cancer with a lumpectomy and an abdominal surgery that left me with a 14” scar - I was not pleased with my mangled and aging body. As a single woman in my early 50s I was considering doing something about my state of affairs. I spoke to several friends and associates in the television world and asked for their thoughts and experiences. (What better referral to get then from someone we all see on television Monday-Friday on network TV!) I was referred to Dr. Engler, a well-known plastic surgeon on the Upper East Side.

My schedule is extremely busy so after speaking with Dr. E’s lovely assistant, Arlene, I asked if I could email a few photos of my breasts, since I wanted to talk about my situation before I went in for a consultation. Dr. Engler contacted me by telephone and we discussed my particular issue. I wasn’t sure if I just needed a lift or a small implant to get my breasts back to their perky selves. Dr. E. took the time to discuss both options, the out come including recovery time as well as the estimated longevity of both procedures. I liked his candor, his patience with my numerous questions, and his simple explanation of the procedures. It was all very straight forward and not a difficult procedure.

Because of my comfort level I made an appointment to go into his office. I felt at home immediately. Dr Engler was as lovely and professional in person as he was on the phone. Katie, his surgical assistant, was with me every step of the way making me comfortable. I had a chance to discuss saline verses silicone and handle the actual implants in various sizes. I left the office knowing I preferred saline and the particular size I was interested in (I didn’t really want to go larger I just wanted my breasts to look as close to my former breasts as possible). All of my questions were answered and I felt confident in Dr. Engler and his staff. We also talked about what could be done about my abdominal scar.

For work and other reasons I can’t do the surgery right now but as soon as I’m able, I know who my plastic surgeon will be. As my TV friends say, “Stay tuned.” Based on my meeting with Dr. Engler and his staff I highly recommend him.
