I'm 65 years old and had several hair transplant procedures in previous years. In order to achieve a fuller, denser appearance, I'm now undergoing Scalp Micro Pigmentation with Dr Pak at New Hair Institute. They tattoo thousands of little dots on my scalp and it looks like hair stubble covering my bald and thinning areas. I've completed my 2nd of 3 treatments and the life-like shading of my entire scalp clear up to the front hairline is already impressive.

Am happy to hear this . SMP is becoming very popular among those who like to keep their hair short and is specially useful as a camufolage procedure in women with thinning and to improve density in those who had multiple procedures and to cover the scar of an old transplant .

A lot of patients with SMP go with a buzz cut, but since I have hair 'up there' from transplants, I'm able to let my hair grow 3/4 of an inch long. This combined with the scalp micro pigmentation makes a significant difference.

I was wondering about that - so you can grow your hair if you decide and the SMP hides the areas where there is think or loss of hair?

Sure it will reduce the contrast between the dark hair and the lighter scalp so even under a spot light it will give the density illusion , BUT it is not for BLONDS

Do you mean SMP in general is not for blonds, or just the option to grow hair? What about red hair?

I'm gonna guess at an answer to your question Eva. My hunch is that a guy who is blond or red on the sides, but bald on top, could go with a completely shaved head and have scalp micro pigmentation applied to the top and sides. This would leave him with a permanent "brunette" stubble, and he would continue to shave his head. If the guy had thinning blond or red thin hair on top, he could have SMP
but would need to dye his hair brunette. Personally, I have a thin amount of grey hair on top, which I dye dark ash brown, and I'm having a very thorough and darkening scalp micro pigmentation over at New Hair Institute. For me, I think the darker the better, even on the crown, where my hair is pretty sparse.
For a blond or red haired guy or gal who has thinning hair and wants to remain blond or red, then maybe they could benefit from just a moderate amount of SMP.
That could get tricky. Ask a pro like Dr. Pak. I bet he knows.

That makes perfect sense to me White Water. When you have some hair growth that will show how it blends, can you share some photos with the community so we can see what it looks like?

Thanks Eva. I'll be in to see Dr. Pak and the whole crew next week. It's a step by step process that wins the race. I'll keep you posted.

Looks Great !!! Had my 3rd - Scalp Micro Pigmentation at New Hair Institute under the supervision of Dr. Pak. I was really hoping to get a denser and darker 'look' and the results are magnificent. Leonard - the technician - went beyond the call of duty with his meticulous efforts in delivering thousands of pigmentation dots that miraculously look like hair stubble.

And of course, also under the supervision of DR. WILLIAM RASSMAN who did an extensive hair transplant on me 23 years ago. This is why I can let my hair grow on top, in addition to the short stubble (filling in effect) being done currently. The Pigmentation is a fairly new procedure...........and it works !!!

Yes, I dye my hair that was transplanted in by Dr Rassman (a couple decades ago).
I use dark brown Henna Dye to avoid the alcohol and chemical contents of traditional dyes. Now I'm undergoing SMP (Scalp Micro Pigmentation)
at New Hair Institute with Dr Rassman and Dr Pak, and I'm very, very pleased.
With my situation, there is just so much that can be done with hair transplants.
The SMP, which is basically tens of thousands of little, tiny tattoos on my head,
fills out the density appearance..........and it's impressive.
