Met with Dr Chatham for a consultation for a severely deviated septum and difficulty breathing. My issues were the result of a broken nose as a child, possibly a broken nose a 2nd time, and a previous mostly unsuccessful surgery. It has now been 2 months since my surgery, and I am very pleased with the results thus far. Much more work needed to be done during my surgery than was previously thought; taking my 2 hour surgery to 3 hours. Despite all the difficulties and even with some remaining swelling my breathing is much better as well as the overall appearance. I'm looking forward to the next few months as things continue to improve.

I'm glad this was worth it for you! Three hours is a big deal. Do you know what, specifically, your doctor did to improve your breathing (technique-wise)?

Dr Chatham remove a lot of scar tissue from my first surgery that was obstructing much of the airway on my left side. After removing that he sutured splints onto each side of my septum, that was removed a couple weeks later to prevent new scar tissue to grow together and cause problems. He took a piece of cartilage out from the left side of my septum and placed it back in upside down to open that nostril up a little more and to straighten up and stiffen the tip some. Both of my nasal cavities collapsed when I took deep breaths. Since he didn't have much cartilage left in my septum to use, he transplanted some cartilage from behind my ear to stiffen up the exterior of my nasal cavities. That also improved the appearance because my nose had an indention on the left side where he inserted the cartilage. To help with the appearance he also sanded down some of the bone on my right side and took some of the bump on my nose.
