One of the most personable Doc's I've met in my life. She has a great one and one with patients and actually is enthused and excited about patients results/outcomes.

How are things going so far? I'm scheduled for 9/22. Very excited.

My 1 month mark will be 9/18 and I should make it to -20#... I'm close! Transforming back to regular food I found a little challenging... but I got thru it... I now do protein shakes 2-3 times a day and one LF high protein meal... I'm not hungry like I was prior to this procedure. But I do get hungry or a Lil weak when it's time for a shake or meal. Drink lots of water! I've never thrown up...was nauous 1st few days but my DR gave me several rx'so to handle all of the symptoms. I only take 1 med 2x per day now to keep nausea away.
September 13, 2016
20#!!! Thats great. Is that with diet and exercise or just diet? My procedure is 9 days away. I'm very excited about how I'll look and feel in the coming months.
September 13, 2016
Diet only at this point...however hurricane Hermine hit us hard and I guess you can call all the clean up work "exercise"..
I've lost weight several times in my life, but I've never had so much loss in inches, so quickly. Take your measurements prior to your procedure so you have something to look back on
September 13, 2016
Be prepared to sleep propped up the first couple night...also sleep on the left side if your a side sleeper.
September 20, 2016
I felt excited prior to procedure too! I wish you the best... plan for the worst... and hopefully you will breeze right through this... Keep us posted!
September 20, 2016
I was excited prior to procedure as well... and happy with the results so far... I look forward to my end result now. That's what keeps me motivated.

I'm 2 days away. I started my diet yesterday and the head the is coming on today. Down 5#. Started yesterday at 210. Hoping to bring it down 5 more before procedure day. I have all ky mess ready and my sig.other tho not on board, has taken the day off to drive and nurse me. My mind now is set on trying to maintain this soft/liquid diet. I realize now that I do have an addiction to food. :-(
What island are u from?
September 20, 2016
Also get Winn Dixie ff beef N chicken broth, in the box, it is great for a few days after procedure. I called it "steak in a box"
September 20, 2016
And take your measurements now if you are able... you will be amazed!
September 20, 2016
I too... developed an addiction to food over the last 5 yrs... totally not like me... but I'm working on getting "me" back! My hubby is supportive, but he did ask prior to if we could diet/exercise and try that b4 procedure. My response was that I've been doing that for 5+ years and that I'm "out of control"
September 13, 2016
If you wouldn't mind me asking, how much was your procedure? I've been doing research trying to find out how I can pay for it.
September 13, 2016
6700. Your provider/MD office may be able to guide you to outside financing...
September 14, 2016
I'm in Florida. I was quoted $6700 as well.
September 14, 2016
I'm in Florida as well. But I went to Moultrie, Ga to have it done.. closest place for me in fl was Ocala and they were 7800. I believe.

I'm one week away now. Started taking the PPI today. Did you take the Emend? Levsin? Phenergan Suppositories? I haven't picked up those Rx as yet. Not sure if I should wait until I need them. I'll have to call my doc as I don't remember if the Emend is mandatory. Luckily my insurance brings it down to $50.
My main question is the soft foods prior to surgery? Suggestions?
September 16, 2016
I had soft/liquids for 3 days prior to surgery. Prilosec 2x/day for 1 wk prior to surgery as well. Applesauce..cottage cheese l/f..protein shakes..soups chicken N stars, nothing with chunks.
September 16, 2016
Get all your rx now and have them on hand...
September 20, 2016
I am getting ready for this procedure and just scared ir doesn't work. Would you do it again?
September 20, 2016
It works... if you work the plan. YES.. I would do it again! It's not a cure all, you have to put in the work as well...so that you can change your mind set to eating healthy and adding exercise... it does make a big difference on my appetite. Some days I'm hungry..and I try to eat more low calorie foods then, load up on veggies...
September 20, 2016
You will regain it all if you don't change your mind set with regards to eating foods...the right foods...
September 20, 2016
That applies to any diet/weight loss!
September 20, 2016
One Month -17.2# couldn't be happier with the progress. I've started adding cardio this week, 20 minutes on tread mill and will build up from there.
September 22, 2016
Can you post a typical day of eating now that you're about a month post procedure?

One Month Post Procedure

IslandGirl307
Still going strong! I've had bad days, but I'm learning to rethink my food, calorie, and exercise decisions.
I'm down - 20 range in just one month! I'm almost half way to my goal. I do need to continue to focus on exercise and increasing my steps/day. Love my Garmin tracker and my fitness pal app to track food/weight and more.
I'm happy I decided to do the orbera procedure. It's the kick start and everyday tool that I needed to reprogram my brain and body with regard to food/exercise.

Did you have to take time of work to do this? I want to try it but I am a little nervous about life after the balloon is removed. I've lost weight before but ended gaining it back... I don't want that again... How are you doing now with it? Have you lost more weight?

How are things now?
UPDATED FROM IslandGirl307

Month 5

IslandGirl307
I'm able to eat more as the months pass, but I'm continuing to monitor my intake and make note of when I mess up or get off track. I gained my weight by eating everything I wanted and I cannot go back to that life.. so I continue with reprogramming my brain and eating habits!
Would I do it again, the Orbera, absolutely! The first 1-2 weeks are rough but I made it!
I'm down about 35# at this point. I've begun to fluctuate up and down by 6#, but it is my eating of the wrong things and too many calories that made that happen. I get back on track and lose it again.
I get removal sometime in March... so I'm planning on making the most of my final days with the obera...
Don't lose hope... this works...but you have to do the work too, and you cannot go back to your old eating habits if you want the results to last long term...
