I have been researching this procedure for about 2 years. The area between my nose and upper lip kept getting longer and I had a horizontal crease under my nose. You can see the crease in my before pictures.
I researched surgeons in NJ, NYC, FL, MD and VA. I kept coming back to this board to see if there was anyone new posting a surgeon from NJ.
One day I was doing another search for a NJ surgeon who knew what a lip lift was and I came upon Dr. Rafidizeh. I researched every site looking for a bad review. All I found were amazing reviews from happy patients. I looked at pictures of all his procedures. I loved his work. So, I called his office the next day to schedule a consultation. My consultation lasted about 30-40 minutes. He also had a patient in the office who he had done a lip lift on 5 years ago and asked her if she would mind meeting me. I loved her lip lift! A few days later I called to schedule my lip lift surgery.
My surgery was at 1:30pm on a Tuesday. I drove myself to his office. The surgery was done under local anesthetic. The pain from the local anesthetic was the worst part. The entire time his nurse held my hand. Even for the surgery. She didn't let go once. The surgery lasted about 40 minutes. When I was done they gave me a mirror. My first words were "holy sh-t", lol. I looked pretty! There was no line. The incision was so hidden and so neat. I couldn't stop looking in the mirror. They told me to come back in 6 days to get the stitches out.
I was very swollen, and also very uncomfortable while the local anesthetic was wearing off. I took the week off from work so I could go back after my stitches were out. I called his office a few times with questions and they were SO nice. On that Saturday evening I was concerned about one area of the stitches. It looked fine, but what if it wasn't?? It was a Saturday. I couldn't wait until Monday. I called his emergency line and he called me back. He had me text him photos of the area and said it looked fine, but said that he would see me in his office the next day (Sunday) just to be sure. Sure enough it was fine.
I went to work the day after I got the stitches out. I didn't tell anyone I was having the surgery. A few people asked me what was different. They said I looked great..was it my skin? Did I lighten my hair? It has now been 2.5 months since I had the surgery. I don't wear makeup on the scar because you can't see it. It's amazing.
I posted before and after pictures. The before pictures are first. You can see the long distance from my nose to my upper lip and you can also see the horizontal crease. I used to have to lift my lips so much just to get a smile. I forget sometimes that I don't have to do that now. I am not wearing makeup on the scar in any of these pictures. I am so happy I had the surgery!!!!

Big difference. Beautiful! I was thinking about doing it too. I just had a BBL with a Dr. in Baltimore who also does lip lifts (first I heard of it!), so I am going to wait. But your scars are so hidden, you can't tell you had any sx done! I will have to consider your doc as well!

Thank you! Keep me posted if you decide to get it done!

You have definitely confirmed my decision to do this, I too have that horizontal line below my nose, I am very, very self conscious if it. I am going I make an appoint today & arrange to have this imperfection attended to, immediately I can. I very much have the same situation as our before photo. Your Doctors stitching is amazing haven’t seen this stitches go up into the nostril area it is usually just straight across, I shall show this to my Surgeon. So very happy for you, enjoy your new look, as you are absolutely beautiful.

Omg you look like a little kid now, adorable. It's great to hear about new doctors for lip lifts. You look so sexy without having a bugs bunny look. Hard to get.

Thank you!

Looks great! How does it feel? Is it awkward to talk, chew, smile, kiss, pucker or suck through a straw? Did your doctor use permanent non-dissolving deep sutures? If so, do you feel any tugging/pulling? Really want to have it done, but am worried about feeling unnatural or having a constant pulling sensation. Thanks so much for recounting your progress for the rest of us!

Thank you! It felt very tight in the beginning. Now I have a tiny bit of tightness left that will go away. It's only been 2.5 months since my surgery. It's not awkward to talk, smile, or do anything at all. I do forget sometimes that I don't have to widen my entire mouth just to get a smile, so sometimes my smile is very big! Lol.

I would also love to know how many mm's you had removed. He did an amazing job with the stitching! I can't believe how invisible the scar is. Was it all non dissolvable stitches or the dissolvable kind?

Hi Artesslanyc, Thank you! There were dissolvable stitches underneath and non dissolvable on the surface. My stitches were taken out after 6 days. Please see the post above for my information on how much skin was removed.

thanks for the info! i've been hearing from a lot of people that their nose felt swollen and possibly even seemed slightly increased in size after surgery, just curious if you noticed anything like that?? doesn't seem so from your photos but just curious

I have also heard that sometimes the nostrils appear larger
October 16, 2014
I heard that too. I don't notice a difference in my nose at all. It actually looks better because my face is more proportioned. My nose felt stiff near the incision, but it didn't feel swollen. If you look at the picture from the day after my stitches were taken out I do look more swollen than the recent pictures (taken 2 days ago). That's normal.

I heard that too. I even asked Dr. Rafidazeh about that on my consult. My nostrils don't look any larger.

I also live in morristown and was considering this type of surgery . I am so concerned about the scarring though. You look great though, he did a great job! How much skin was removed?

Hi bethjm143, I was also very concerned about the scarring. I felt much more comfortable after my consultation with Dr. Rafizadeh..he showed me exactly where the incision would be made. As far as how much skin was removed, I was never concerned about exact numbers. The most important thing is that no more than 1.5 cm should be left behind. I now have 1 cm distance between my nose and upper lip. I hope that helps!

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I think I will schedule a consult with him.. you look great! My problem is my nose is a lit turned up so I'm concerned the incision will show..

My nose is also a little turned up but you can't see it in the pictures. Dr. Rafidazeh is very honest and realistic. He will let you know what he thinks. I hope you go! Keep me posted!
