Single Stage Prophylactic Mastectomy and Reconstruction in NJ. -Morristown, NJ

I am a BRACA2 gene carrier. I had the gene test done after my second sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. Though she caught it "early" we learned there is really no such thing and the cancer had reached her nodes and after two lumpectomies had to have a mastectomy followed by chemo and radiation. I was facing a difficult decision. Once I realized it was a matter of when not if I too would probably have breast cancer I knew I had to seriously consider preventative surgery. However, it was when I met Dr. Rafizedah and learned that he could do the reconstruction in a single procedure and would attempt to save my nipples that my choice became an easier one! Dr. Rafizadeh met with me several times carefully explaining the procedure, where the scar would be, what choices in implants I had. I found it very helpful to look at all the pictures of his patients who had undergone mastectomies. I was concerned about size as I liked my smaller breasts. Dr. Rafizedah was extremely sensitive and patient about letting me go over all the sizes with a girlfriend helping me. He even held one up to himself for us to look at!! That's when I knew I was in good hands!! My surgery went well, even though I had some bleeding which required a second surgery for one breast; the results have been excellent. He was able to save the nipples and two years out from surgery I continue to see improvement and regaining of some sensations in my nipples which has been amazing!
