I've wanted to do this procedure for over 25 years, but did not know who could or would expertly perform such an uncommon procedure. I'm 51years old (had rhinoplasty, botox, fillers) and always knew that my excessively long and flat upper lip is the downfall of my face. After coming back to this website numerous times over the years, I finally found a great doctor... Dr. Farhad Rafizadeh. I am posting this review (my first review of anything or anyone ever!) to give thanks to the forum here and perhaps offer another perspective on this procedure.

I actually had my lip lift performed 7 hours ago....and what a breeze it's been since (contrary to my initial impressions). First of all, I drove myself (noone else in the car) from eastern Long Island to New Jersey for the procedure (roughly 2.5 hour drive) . The doctor's office is clean, efficient, and professional. Dr. Rafizadeh spent an hour consulting with me, and patiently listened to my ideas (he didn't even dismiss my Penelope Cruz and Nicolette Sheridan montage...such a dear man). We proceeded to do the lip lift thereafter, wherein he carefully measured, marked , cut , stitched, and cleaned me up so that I could leave like a lady. My case is a bit different than most, since my upper teeth are positioned way high up right under my nose. Beautiful teeth, but noone could ever see them. I requested that he perform a drastic lip reduction, and he did it!! Let me mention that most doctors would insist on a more subtle reduction, but Dr. Rafizadeh knew exactly what to do and executed it perfectly. The numbing injections were excruciating...I sneezed repeatedly and tears poured out of my eyes, but he kept a steady hand. The most astounding part of this whole process... I simply drove myself home, so that I could read the mail, answer phone calls and email, feed my cats, fold my laundry, and sleep in my own bed. The fact that there was no nauseating general anesthesia, which would add thousands of dollars to the tab, no hospital stay, no asking for favors for a ride home... in fact nobody knows that I did this (should be interesting to see peoples' reactions). I have taken 5 Tylenol tablets so far (no big deal... no prescriptions necessary).

My stitches will be removed in 6 days, but I love it already. I have minimal swelling so far.... don't know if that will change overnight or not. I can only give my soundest endorsement for Dr. Rafizadeh... he is highly skilled in this procedure and he really went the extra mile in my case for an outstanding result.

Wow, I am excited to read your review. There have been others on this site who seem thrilled with your doctor and the pictures I saw on this site are amazing. You mentioned that you had a reduction. Did you have a lip lift and a lip reduction or just a lip lift. So happy for you.

Thanks...actually the lip lift term is by definition a lip reduction. Keep up the research!

Actually a lip reduction is a completely different procedure, done for completely different issues.

Oh Curlytop, I think a lip lift augments the lip a little, it doesn't reduce it, at least I hope so! lol!

Glad you asked....sure enough, the swelling arrived. Yesterday was an ugly day. My nose/nostrils enlarged and upper lip became very thick looking. Things are evolving quickly though. Today, the gross dried blood around the stitches is all but gone. Some of the swelling has abated, but in its place I am sporting a purple bruising all across my upper lip. Nothing totally awful, but I am definitely not ready to be seen in public. From a distance, I look like someone punched my face in:) The whole look is distorted, but I anticipate a total turnaround in about a week. My upper lip has become more pliable as the hours go by, which makes eating and such much easier. Only concern...it might be many weeks before I can actually smile again. That in itself might make people curious as to "what's wrong with her face, she laughs but can't smile". Other than that, I'm good!

Hi curlytop, I'm so glad for you that you found such a good surgeon! I was hoping to see your before/after photos here. Is it possible for you to post them? I'd appreciate it a lot! I'm looking for one for over a year and can't decide because I also need a facelift and revision nose. Hard to find ONE surgeon to be excellent in the 3 operations! Also I live in NYC and your dr. is in NJ; however, if I had the certainty of his excellence in these areas...I would travel! I hope you'll post your photos? Thanks so much! (If you don't wish to post them here, could you email them here: nuevadela2 at rcn dot com).

I would research other websites for reviews on his work to get a general idea of his track record. I am not posting any photos (not my thing... I don't even do Facebook). Notwithstanding my particular appearance, he is a highly skilled surgeon who does meticulous stitching and has a keen eye for the lip procedures. I would go for a consultation... you will definitely get value out of that.

You did it! How many mm's did you have him cut? How is it looking today? Stitches out yet?

Indeed! I had 1.9cm and now 1cm remain, so .9cm removed (totally needed it...my teeth are set so high up). I got the stitches out the other day and it looks awesome! My whole face has been reproportioned...so great. So far my smile line shows only a small increase in tooth show, but perhaps that will change as things loosen up in time. Actually, my swelling is resolved for the most part, so my smile line may not change much ..whatever ..I just love the new look even at repose. Hope you are enjoying your new look as well and thanks for all your help!
