Accutane Journey
ORIGINAL POST
One month pre Accutane treatment
WORTH IT$3,000
My cystic acne began at the age of 19 so we're going on 4 years of this shenanigans. I've been on many courses of oral antibiotics like Minocycline, Doxycyline, Spironolactone, topical Clindamycin, Benzoyl Peroxide, adapalene, and you name it, everything in between. I got tired of the same old run around at my old dermatologist so I began the search for a second opinion. My first visit she immediately suggested Accutane. I am nervous to begin treatment but at the same time I am EXTREMELY excited at the though of clear skin as my outcome. I am scheduled to start my treatment mid August. Pics are from the past year with the most recent photos in the red glasses taken last week.

Two days Pre Accutane
I’ve had my labs drawn, and as soon as the results come back my dr is sending in the script!!!!! I’ve waited for this for so long and I’m finally starting treatment. Here are the last few pics before beginning accutane. Any must have products you all think I need? Wish me luck.

An oil free moisturizer and a ton of chapstick. My sons lips were so dry that they bled. Also expect your acne to get worse before it gets better:(

Hi! Bestie of luck on your journey! I started in March and looked up a ton of reviews and searched for products people found helpful. Bought a bunch, of things, but found I keep going to the same, simple products. I use Cerave hydrating cleanser, and Cerave face and body moisturizer (both big sizes I bought on amazon). I originally bought the Dr Fans cortibalm chaostick but I HATE the way it tastes and it always transferred to drinks, etc. I use Carmex chapstick and love it. I have them stashed everywhere (Walmart sells five packs for cheap!). I do need to apply that like every 30 minutes though or I feel like my lips will burst. Just recently, my dosage was increased and the corners of my mouth started cracking, which is not fun. I’ve been using aquaphor for that.
The first month I felt unbelievably greasy. It felt like my face and hair were purging all oil (which it was, I suppose). It did subside after a few weeks though. I also did switch shampoo and conditioner and use Herbal Essence bio renew birch bark extract sulfate free.
My one big negative throughout the process, this far, is that my back hurts a lot, and often. I did start taking fish oil because my labs started coming back with some bad numbers, and that has not only helped my lab numbers but somehow helped my back, too. Didn’t resolve it, but it’s not as terrible (it was pretty bad). My Derm said that fish oil wouldn’t really help the back, so not sure if it’s related but I’m just happy it’s a bit better and the timing of starting vitamin/reduction of back pain align.
I’ve seen a HUGE improvement in my skin. It’s by no means perfect and I have at least three more months to go, but the results, so far, are pretty amazing. As gross as it sounds, prior to starting this, I could have squeezed any part of my face and it would have had pus
