WORTH IT
I will start with my case is a bit different from the average mommy makeover. No one understood why I would even consider surgery, the risks, waste of money, a botched surgery or worst case a WICKED scar! I reviewed so many before and after galleries online and very few had photos similar to my case. Extreme makeover results get all the likes, comments and happy patients even when they are left with an unsightly scar. Oof, SCARS of all shapes and sizes; belly button, no belly button, lots of weird belly buttons, mini, long, thick, high, low, jagged, puckered, mangled, delicate, thin... so many different types of tummy tuck scars! All of these things left me wondering if cases like mine were not worth showcasing or not recommended for surgery.
I knew I would have to do INTENSE research to find the right doctor! I didn't need a "miracle worker" plastic surgeon, I needed a plastic surgeon who is a master in delivering beautiful results and DELICATE scars! I studied scar healing like I was being paid for it. After several consultations with plastic surgeons in my area (SF Bay Area) I was confused and nowhere close to making a decision. I was determined to find a doctor who would address the SCAR and BELLY BUTTON head on. I have never been more grateful that the stars aligned (or google tracking cookies) put Dr. Rahban's IG post about scars on my Instagram feed. FINALLY! A plastic surgeon willing to talk about scars openly and uncensored. Not once had I EVER considered to ask the doctor in a consultation who would be closing my incisions after surgery. Literally a new trust issue unlocked!!! It was at that moment I knew I had to book a consultation with Dr.Rahban. His super attentive team worked their magic to get me scheduled for a consultation. I absolutely ADORE his team! So real, so warm and so genuine!
My virtual consultation went a little like this: "Hello, I am Dr. Rady Rahban, nice to meet you, WHY ARE YOU HERE? You are just near perfect in these photos, an A-, if you wanted a grade." We both laughed! I was sure he was delivered by the universe to tell me to accept my body. He then asked and listened to what my concerns were. I really appreciate his approach in beginning his consultations by educating me on the procedures in question, what makes a person a good candidate for a procedure and how many variables and factors can lead to many different outcomes even when performing essentially the "same" procedure. He knew the scar was a big deal to me and I know that scars are a big deal to him as well. He validated my feelings about my concerns and was honest in saying that he would not work on me if he did not believe in good faith that he would give me a result that would leave me in better shape than I was already in. He was genuinely excited for me and my results. I really admire a physician that can be straightforward and honest. He ended my 1+ HOUR long consultation with a list of great questions to ask other plastic surgeons, called out red flags I should listen for and specific procedures to avoid at all costs.
It didn't take long to decide that Dr.Rahban was MY doctor! I had a short time frame as to when I could schedule my surgery. I told myself “if it’s meant to be it, it will be.” Sally waved her magic wand and I was booked for surgery! I am so grateful to Dr.Rahban, his ENTIRE office and surgical team for being able to make this happen for me. On surgery day I met with Dr. Rahban, his sweet nurse and kind anesthesiologist. I had so many ideas of things to chat about in the OR but damn do those meds work FAST! LOL I wish I could remember my surgery!
My amazing aftercare nurse Mitra from Ratana Care was recommended by Sally at Dr.Rahban’s. Mitra is a real ANGEL on earth! I spent 10 days in the area with a family member. I followed Dr.Rahban’s & Letty’s post-op instructions 100% line by line, I truly believe it made my recovery feel a BREEZE! They provided everything I needed for Post-op care. The only item I bought was a pillow set to help keep me elevated in bed. My results? PHENOMENAL! Every single person who told me not to risk it, is floored by my results and obsessed with my belly button! hahaha
