How it works
  • Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
  • This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
  • Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.
  • Reviews are only removed at the reviewer's request or if they violate our Terms of Service.

If you have questions or believe we should re-evaluate a published review, let us know.

When You're Left with Permanent (And Avoidable) Negative Outcomes...

I wish I had followed through with the other surgeon I was considering. I thought I could trust Dr. Richard Fryer with my surgery. The truth is that I found myself so invested once I had already paid for a consultation, got a discount for booking quickly, and was told there wasn't a waitlist for the surgery. When you read his other bad reviews, there is a consistent theme: poor conflict resolution. I’m 5’4”, 115lbs, healthy and active. One would think it was a straightforward procedure, but Dr. Fryer left me with skin puckering and dog ears from the tummy tuck and needing a second surgery for the breast augmentation. (As others said, in his consult, he makes it sound like revision is only $2K, but it’s not. It’s $4K+.) Spoiler alert, the revision wasn’t better. There was one major incident during my treatment that I don't feel comfortable talking about yet, perhaps I will update this review later with more details, but for now, I recommend seeing a surgeon that wouldn’t force you to live with their carelessness as I now have to. I know it’s difficult choosing a surgeon, I wish someone would have steered me away from Dr. Fryer. I don’t regret plastic surgery, I do regret Dr. Fryer being the surgeon. I’m well past healing time, and the pictures can speak for themselves. Dr. Fryer insists these are “great results”. I know it’s important to see a surgeon who has experience, but I feel Dr. Fryer was outdated and careless with my surgery. Also, worth noting… Dr. Fryer does not see patients beyond the six week checkup. Many other surgeons in the area provide checkups at the year mark (some even more)! That provides an opportunity to see how things heal after swelling and pain go away, and to ensure their work is satisfactory. I’m hopeful I can help others as they decide on a surgeon for their journey so they don’t have to experience the same disappointment, costs, frustrations and poor outcomes as I did.
And to provide more context to the RealSelf’s star rating for Dr. Fryer:
-Phone and email responsiveness: there isn’t an option to communicate via email or text. Calling by phone takes multiple calls to follow up as their response times are very slow (sometimes weeks).
-Answered my questions: yes, he did. BUT, I’ve realized now that those questions were answered without actual statistics. I recommend asking for proof.
-Wait times: I waited about 45min for each visit.
-Bedside manner: I felt like he was gaslighting me. He insisted my skin puckering is fine. (It looks bad.) Same for my other surgery frustrations.
-Time spent with doctor: each follow up appointment, they really encourage you to see a nurse. Most of the visits and pre/post appts are done by his nurses, as they make it difficult to request to be seen by Dr. Fryer.
-Staff professionalism and courtesy: the front desk is really polite, but my disappointment is with the communication relayed between the nurses and Dr. Fryer. They constantly contradicted each other and I felt my care fell through the cracks and was worsened because of that. The nurses mixed my case up with other patients multiple times. I suspect this also led to the errors in surgery.
-Payment process: I was overcharged multiple times. They didn’t catch the mistakes, I did.
-Aftercare and follow up: Very limited aftercare. As mentioned above, I recommend seeing a surgeon that allows for longer healing time and follow up visits.
