I had a modified lip lift (I requested the corners of my mouth be lifted to give me side lips) about six weeks ago. I have been told the recovery is three months and understand that but it’s def a struggle. Today, at the six week mark, my nose is still huge and my nostrils are flared out so much they hurt every day. My upper lip is swollen, numb and has a constant burning sensation. The corners of my mouth were lifted as well but I still see no side lip...Which is concerning. The corners of my mouth turn downward...giving a frown look. Everything is still so distorted I wear a mask around friends and family still. I’m hoping things change over the final 6 week healing period. Very nervous about the outcome.

This procedure's real healing time is much longer than reviews and the Q & A on Real Self would lead you to believe. I'm still very swollen 6 weeks out myself. The swelling may be distorting the corners of your mouth. The 2 month mark should see some improvement. Hang in there.

Honestly, this is what I need to hear....thank you!

I 100% agree. I'm 7 weeks out from a corner and upper lift and it's a process for sure!
July 3, 2021
Thank you. So true, it takes much longer than people are led to believe. I wish I’d had a corner lip lift too. Your lips are going to look terrific. Btw I totally agree with your comments about HappyDance. Her posts were starting to border on genuine defamation not just disparagement which may be the reason she asked for the posts to be taken down. I mean she was desperate to communicate. Why else would she suddenly decide to disappear? Seems suspicious to me. I resented how dismissive she was of the feedback of many people with much more experience.
July 3, 2021
Thank you for saying that about the comments from HappyDance. Everyone has an absolute right to talk about their experience, but she was drawing the worst possible conclusions practically from the moment she left Dr. M's office, which would be unfair to any surgeon, no matter what the procedure. Her refusal to clarify or answer questions didn't make much sense to me. I hope she ends up loving her result, but I'd hate to see anyone dissuaded from a lip lift with Dr. M because of one very vocal person who refused to offer more info or discuss the doctor's response!

Thank you...hearing the healing process is longer sure makes me feel better. Going out in public (still distorted but acceptable) after 1 month was not my experience. Nice to know others have the same healing time as me.❤️

Yes, I spent a lot of time making comments trying to talk her off of the ledge. I have had 2 lip lifts and tons of PS going back a long time, and she totally dismissed everything I told her. It was all very factual. She is still barely over a month PO and every single day she writes the most crazy things. The Dr. committed a war crime, and things like that. There is no problem saying she does not like what she looks like, but it isn't the final result. Usually Dr's can tell if a patient isn't emotionally able to handle the post op period and turns them away. Yes, she can freak out with the swelling etc. but when so many were trying to help her and she doesn't listen.
July 15, 2021
True. I’m trying to be supportive but she is so determined to focus on her anger as opposed to her action plan for what she needs to do to feel better and look better down the road. She doesn’t care how many people tell her that they too looked awful for weeks if not months. I had plenty of meltdowns. The people claiming she has a legal case are ignorant of the law. Her disparagement at this point could be considered defamation because it is not based in fact but purely her emotional opinion in the early stages of recovery. That said I do think he took too much off and if two more months from now there is not much change then she may have a case if it can’t be fixed. She’ll definitely need a corner lip lift. She did herself a big disservice by burning bridges with him. If she’d expressed her concerns in a diplomatic way he’d probably really want to work with her to make things right.

I have been following happydancehurting’s struggle. It’s a difficult place to be when you look in the mirror and see a different face. You can’t undo the surgery so the only options left are, how can You make this better....❤️ I only went in for a corner lip lift because I didn’t have any and understood the modified lip lift would be done as well. I still don’t see the corners lifted and now have a frown appearance. Hearing everyone tell me to just be patient because things change every week is incredibly helpful!!!
July 15, 2021
I do feel for her. I just think she's gone a little overboard and can't get out of her own way. Things really do change from day to day but in my unqualified opinion, I truly don't think that if you had a corner lift lip that you should be seeing such a frown appearance. Talei needs to redo it. From the photos I never would have guessed you'd had a corner lift -I think he wasn't aggressive enough to compensate for the fact that he was doing a central lip lift at the same time. This said things will improve but my honest take is that you will probably need a do over of the corners but once everything settles -you will be so pleased you had the regular lift as well. Will be very curious to hear what he says when you see him next week.

Yes, I will be curious to see what he says as well since the only thing I requested was to have the corners of my mouth lifted… Not really the center but figured they would have to do some in the center to balance out the corner lip lift. Today, I regret doing it… My nose is pushed up, my nostrils are flared, I can’t move my upper lip, I have a frown and I drool from the right side of my mouth… Not to mention the sinus issues I’m having now. I just need to stay positive and hope he will give me the look we discussed. I will keep you posted. ❤️

That's the attitude! You know well that the nose distortion is from swelling and the upper lip stiffness is typical (I'm still dealing with that as well in addition to the cupie doll look-ugh). But I got some filler in the corners of my upper lip and it looks much better. My point being that this is temporary and it will be hard for a couple more months but if the outcome is undesirable, it can be corrected. Thanks so much for sharing your journey and the feedback from Dr. Talei. Much luck! :)

Does he cut through the muscle? I'm pretty sure there was one review on here from the same doctor and her healing took forever because he cut through the muscle. But her end result is beautiful. Cutting through the muscle definitely leads to more issues healing, but eventually, her results were great. I did a bull horn lip lift and then a corner lift a few months later. They did not Cut through the muscle at all, so my healing was quicker. My corner lift helped, but I didn't get a lot of side lips either. And my scarring is now light colored, so you don't see the pink. But, it did help somewhat. Check out my reviews. I put a little liner on it, and it looks great. It looks like your doctor did a similar approach to the corner lift as mine. Kind of a Z shape. We've done several steroid injections on each side in the middle of the Z, and that seems to have helped. I just posted an update yesterday about six months after my corner lift and nine or 10 months after my bullhorn lift. It definitely takes a while for full healing. I'm still not completely healed on the corners. But I am loving my results finally! Hang in there Make sure you follow up with your doctor to make sure you get the results you want.

Everyone’s comment are helping me. Yes, the muscle was cut because I have no feeling or movement in my upper lip at the moment...but understand it will take time for healing.

My Feb 2021 lip lift took a full 3 1/2 months to heal. It is definitely an exercise in patience. Thankfully I was able to wear a mask the whole time.

Lol!! I was hoping the mask mandate would go a little longer...but now I’m the only one wearing a mask! Ironic!!!
July 9, 2021
I think masks come quite handy when you had a work on your face and now you can always explain it with the fact that you are afraid of covid, LOL.

Lol! I had to go to a family reunion at Fourth of July… My family thought I was afraid of Covid but I was honest with them. I told them I had lip surgery and my nose and lip are still distorted. They just excepted it and we had a great time.❤️

Talei charges $12k for a lip lift?
July 24, 2021
i bet he does. when i got a quote years ago it was between 7-10k. very overpriced.

Yes he’s super expensive but I heard he was the best for this. I certainly hope so, because I’m struggling with my look after 2 1/2 months. He keeps telling me I’m swollen, but a reduction in swelling doesn’t seem to be raising the corners of my lips.

Here is my before photo....i forgot to take my lipstick off but I would draw my side lips with lipliner (no side lips). If you look closely, you can see where they are drawn. Also, you can see the shape of my nose/nostrils before the procedure.

I can see why you feel concerned. But I do feel as the others who have commented that it is still early. It does take 3 months at least to see even a beginning of a final result. It just looks swollen. Having said that, I would be feeling the same as you. It's hard to remain calm when it's not as you thought perhaps it would be. I've seen other patients of his who's nostrils didn't go back to normal for 6 months! Just time is what it takes I guess. Healing thoughts and update us on your journey to for sure !!

Thank you! As long as they go back to normal...they are sore all the time from the stretch tho!
July 1, 2021
Yes, some people get really lucky and just don't swell that much or it does not last very long. You're going to have to be patient for at least another several more weeks. I hear that Talei's method is a little more involved which leads to a longer recovery time --but that it's worth it. Your nose is totally swollen and will also take time. I don't know why more people don't talk openly about how unnatural one is going to look and for how long. The results from my mini face lift seriously did not look good until like the one year mark. Don't worry -this is different recovery -but longer than we are led to believe. If the sides aren't lifted as much as you want ultimately at least they will be lifted enough to provide a better canvas for some filler to do the rest of the job. You're going to look great. Drawing your lips on is not acceptable!

Thanks for telling me the real healing time. I had no idea my face was going to be so distorted.

Look at the woman on this site who had a lip lift by him. Her name is Calli mom. She has a lot of pictures and her nostrils were totally flared after. I was wondering if they would go back to normal and they have but it's taken a long time. Also I would ask him about the sides. Maybe he could do something to fix that? But take a look at this review. I hope that helps
July 2, 2021
Yes, that's the review I was thinking about as well. She had a really long healing time, but now has beautiful results.

Try hyperbaric chamber treatments. Its pure oxygen, used commonly post surgery to speed up recovery. I used it after getting super swollen and bruised from lip fillers. In 2-3 sessions I was fine. Best wishes on your healing journey.

Thank you! Dr Talei did a hyperbaric chamber session with me one week post treatment. I also do red light treatment pretty regularly on my face. I’m 8 weeks post procedure and I’m really struggling with this recovery… But I see him in a week. There’s so many things they don’t tell you, I now have sinus issues, I have saliva coming out of the corners of my mouth, I have marionette lines at the corner of my mouth, I still cannot move my upper lip, my nose is still big and nostrils flared… And the most concerning is I still don’t have the side lips that I requested during the consultation. This is quite the struggle... I had absolutely no idea all the possible issues that could happen during this process.

It’s been 8 weeks post procedure... still struggling with the results....And the issues that come along with it. The corners of my mouth turn down word, I still have no side lip, I have sinus issues, I find saliva coming from the corners of my mouth… Especially the right side where the deeper marionette line is, no movement or feeling in my upper lip. I do understand the healing process is longer than the doctors will tell you.… And I am holding out hope and trust in my doctor that all these will be resolved over the course of the next two months.

What does Dr. Talei say about the drooling and the downward slope of your corners given that he did do a corner lip lift after all? I hope he offers to do it again if it is unsuccessful. Has he offered any temporary solutions? I think I've seen him put botox at the corner of people's lips to help lift them. The lack of feeling and inability to move your upper lip is totally normal at this point. The good news is that your lips are looking really good and your shortened philtrum is a real improvement and creating a nice balance in your face. Also, your scar is looking very good! The recovery is rough (especially for Talei's more involved lip lifts) but you will be pleased. You should explore some things to do along the way to make the process easier. Also, are you taking a high dose of vitamin C? Consider taking Quercetin and Bromelain supplements as well. Ask Talei about what you can do about the corners to help you feel and look better. I had some filler put in the sides of my upper lip only 6 weeks out because I couldn't stand having the awkward hiked up middle anymore while I healed and this helped tremendously. Keep us posted.

I haven’t talked to him yet because I’m meeting him next week in person. I did send an email to their office 2 weeks ago addressing these issues asking someone to please contact me because I’m really struggling with this recovery but I never heard back from anyone.
Reading everyone else’s reviews on this site has helped me to be patient with this recovery. I understand Dr. Talei wants everyone to have a successful outcome on their procedures so I’m confident he will address these. I live in Arizona so it’s a little bit more difficult to make appointments with him. I have no choice except to just be patient, recover and let Dr. Talley work his magic.

You have a great attitude, and I think you are correct that you are in really good hands with Dr. Talei and you will be happy in the end. Doctors such as he are perfectionists and don't want unhappy patients and I think will do what they can within what is possible to make things right. The recovery is indeed rougher and longer than one would think. Keep us posted, and good luck!
