Modified Lip Lift

I had a modified lip lift (I requested the corners of my mouth be lifted to give me side lips) about six weeks ago. I have been told the recovery is three months and understand that but it’s def a struggle. Today, at the six week mark, my nose is still huge and my nostrils are flared out so much they hurt every day. My upper lip is swollen, numb and has a constant burning sensation. The corners of my mouth were lifted as well but I still see no side lip...Which is concerning. The corners of my mouth turn downward...giving a frown look. Everything is still so distorted I wear a mask around friends and family still. I’m hoping things change over the final 6 week healing period. Very nervous about the outcome.

Modified Lip Lift
Here is my before photo....i forgot to take my lipstick off but I would draw my side lips with lipliner (no side lips). If you look closely, you can see where they are drawn. Also, you can see the shape of my nose/nostrils before the procedure.

I can see why you feel concerned. But I do feel as the others who have commented that it is still early. It does take 3 months at least to see even a beginning of a final result. It just looks swollen. Having said that, I would be feeling the same as you. It's hard to remain calm when it's not as you thought perhaps it would be. I've seen other patients of his who's nostrils didn't go back to normal for 6 months! Just time is what it takes I guess. Healing thoughts and update us on your journey to for sure !!

Thank you! As long as they go back to normal...they are sore all the time from the stretch tho!

Yes, some people get really lucky and just don't swell that much or it does not last very long. You're going to have to be patient for at least another several more weeks. I hear that Talei's method is a little more involved which leads to a longer recovery time --but that it's worth it. Your nose is totally swollen and will also take time. I don't know why more people don't talk openly about how unnatural one is going to look and for how long. The results from my mini face lift seriously did not look good until like the one year mark. Don't worry -this is different recovery -but longer than we are led to believe. If the sides aren't lifted as much as you want ultimately at least they will be lifted enough to provide a better canvas for some filler to do the rest of the job. You're going to look great. Drawing your lips on is not acceptable!

Thanks for telling me the real healing time. I had no idea my face was going to be so distorted.

Look at the woman on this site who had a lip lift by him. Her name is Calli mom. She has a lot of pictures and her nostrils were totally flared after. I was wondering if they would go back to normal and they have but it's taken a long time. Also I would ask him about the sides. Maybe he could do something to fix that? But take a look at this review. I hope that helps

Yes, that's the review I was thinking about as well. She had a really long healing time, but now has beautiful results.

Try hyperbaric chamber treatments. Its pure oxygen, used commonly post surgery to speed up recovery. I used it after getting super swollen and bruised from lip fillers. In 2-3 sessions I was fine. Best wishes on your healing journey.

Thank you! Dr Talei did a hyperbaric chamber session with me one week post treatment. I also do red light treatment pretty regularly on my face. I’m 8 weeks post procedure and I’m really struggling with this recovery… But I see him in a week. There’s so many things they don’t tell you, I now have sinus issues, I have saliva coming out of the corners of my mouth, I have marionette lines at the corner of my mouth, I still cannot move my upper lip, my nose is still big and nostrils flared… And the most concerning is I still don’t have the side lips that I requested during the consultation. This is quite the struggle... I had absolutely no idea all the possible issues that could happen during this process.

Modified lip lift
It’s been 8 weeks post procedure... still struggling with the results....And the issues that come along with it. The corners of my mouth turn down word, I still have no side lip, I have sinus issues, I find saliva coming from the corners of my mouth… Especially the right side where the deeper marionette line is, no movement or feeling in my upper lip. I do understand the healing process is longer than the doctors will tell you.… And I am holding out hope and trust in my doctor that all these will be resolved over the course of the next two months.

What does Dr. Talei say about the drooling and the downward slope of your corners given that he did do a corner lip lift after all? I hope he offers to do it again if it is unsuccessful. Has he offered any temporary solutions? I think I've seen him put botox at the corner of people's lips to help lift them. The lack of feeling and inability to move your upper lip is totally normal at this point. The good news is that your lips are looking really good and your shortened philtrum is a real improvement and creating a nice balance in your face. Also, your scar is looking very good! The recovery is rough (especially for Talei's more involved lip lifts) but you will be pleased. You should explore some things to do along the way to make the process easier. Also, are you taking a high dose of vitamin C? Consider taking Quercetin and Bromelain supplements as well. Ask Talei about what you can do about the corners to help you feel and look better. I had some filler put in the sides of my upper lip only 6 weeks out because I couldn't stand having the awkward hiked up middle anymore while I healed and this helped tremendously. Keep us posted.

I haven’t talked to him yet because I’m meeting him next week in person. I did send an email to their office 2 weeks ago addressing these issues asking someone to please contact me because I’m really struggling with this recovery but I never heard back from anyone.
Reading everyone else’s reviews on this site has helped me to be patient with this recovery. I understand Dr. Talei wants everyone to have a successful outcome on their procedures so I’m confident he will address these. I live in Arizona so it’s a little bit more difficult to make appointments with him. I have no choice except to just be patient, recover and let Dr. Talley work his magic.

You have a great attitude, and I think you are correct that you are in really good hands with Dr. Talei and you will be happy in the end. Doctors such as he are perfectionists and don't want unhappy patients and I think will do what they can within what is possible to make things right. The recovery is indeed rougher and longer than one would think. Keep us posted, and good luck!
