Almost 11 Weeks Post Op

I’m very stressed at the moment. The pressure from the modified lip lift seems to be pushing my nose and my inner cheeks up. It causes a lot of pressure in the middle of my face and is very very uncomfortable. I thought the pressure would lessen but it’s not. I am going to see a ear nose and throat plastic surgeon next week as I have air flow restriction in my sinus. When I mentioned that to Dr. Talei… Why would that be, he said he has no idea. So now I need to see a specialist. I still have no side lips from the corner lip lift and I’m drooling out of both sides of my mouth. Very unhappy with the results.

Modified Lip Lift and Corner Lift
I am almost 10 weeks post op. I’m attaching photos as I’m concerned regarding the results. I’m attaching two updated photos. Although he did a corner lift lip… I still do not have upper corner lips. I am willing to wait the full 12 weeks and then go in for a consultation regarding a revision. I do not like the center being pulled up and nothing on the side… it gives it that fish/duck look that I absolutely hate and the worst part, my friends asked me if this was the look I was going to end up with (they would make fun of people who had this fake look). I told him absolutely not… He’s only pulling up the Upper sides.

Maybe I am the only one, but I think the corners of your mouth in the latest pictures turned up compared to the earlier pics.

At repose (photos 1 & 3), I do see improvement from your last post. I do not feel you look like a fish/duck if that's any consolation.

Lol... thank you but in my Dr consultation, I requested the corners to be lifted up so I had a full lip on both sides. As you can see there’s nothing on the side ... except a frown and deep marionette lines and then it goes up in the middle. This is the opposite look I requested during the consultation. Even two weeks before the procedures, him and I discussed minimal pulling up in the center and more pulling up on the sides… Which is not the look I have . I like my before photo better than the current look. My friends make fun of that fake look.

I can empathize as I am very peaky in the middle and yearning for my straight wide shape. The high cupids bow approach doesn't work for every face. I do believe Dr. Talei will make this right for you. Please keep us posted.

@ckidzag, I don't think your look is fake. So you wanted to show more vermillion on the upper lip? I have the same problem and I was able to fix it a little bit with filler. My facelift also considerably improved the frowns in the corners - a part of them is just loose skin.

I wanted a lower face lift after my overly aggressive lip lift. It most certainly accentuated my down turning corners and jowls, unfortunately. I’ve done Morpheus8, PDO threads, and Halo laser, and I’ve seen great improvement.

Did Dr. Talei charge you for the lip lift and the corner lip lift or was it all the same procedure? I read the published paper he wrote for the modified lip lift and it didn't mention the corner lip lift.

Dr. Talei charged for a modified lip lift and corner flip lift.… That’s why it was over $12,000.

Did you have a direct corner lip lift, meaning he cut the corners of your lips, or only indirectly from the same incision he used for your upper lip lift? I had a corner lip lift with incisions at my corners with Dr. Mascaro in May and the difference is HUGE. An indirect lift would not have helped. My entire mouth and my lower face was being pulled down by the corners of my lips! You may need a corner lift with incisions. Believe me when I say that, when performed by the right surgeon, it works. I have the slight upturn at the corners that I asked for and it makes an even bigger difference in my face than the upper lip lift I had at the same time!

What is the shape of your incisions for the corner lift you had with Dr. Mascaro? I had a corner lip 20 years ago by Dr. Gustavo Colon (deceased) here in New Orleans. My incisions are like crescent moon shaped at the corners of my lips. The incisions looked bad at first, now I can't find them. Scar tissue from fillers and the corner lip surgery started to pull my corners down. When I had my deep plane lift 2 years ago, my Dr. cut the scar tissue away and my corners are back where they should be. It looks like Ckidzag's corner lip incisions are a modified gull wing.

My incisions are a crescent moon shape that wraps around the corner of my lips and picks up the corners in a slight upturn. The corner lift worked really well, better than I expected. An upper lip lift alone would have given me a peak in the middle and downturned corners. I'm 56 and had a 20 mm philtrum length, so a corner lift was key to a balanced result. Can Dr. Talei give you a corner lift if you're still not happy? Feel free to DM me if you want to see my pics -- I haven't had time to post a review yet!

The incisions were direct in the corners. It was not an indirect corner lip lift. They were separate procedures...Direct incision in the corners. I still have a frown, marionette lines at the corner of my mouth and drooling out of the right side.

Ckidzag paid 12k for a corner lip lift. I am sure that she doesn't want to spend more money on filler. Also, filler causes scar tissue that can pull down the corners of your lips. I know because it happened to me.

I'm so shocked at this and what he charged you. Ridiculous !! 12,000 for a modified lip lift and he did not lift corners.
I would demand filler at no cost for the next two years . On the sides to fill in lines and whatever you may need in lips. Because what he charged for this is unacceptable.

Lol! Why would I pay for filler when I already paid for the corner lip lift. The purpose of a corner lip lift it so I don’t have to do filler. I don’t spend $12,000 for a modified lip lift and corner lip lift to have filler put in to get my requested. looked. But thanks for the thought. A revision, would seem appropriate.

@ckidzag and @maybellineo, my incision is along the vermillion border of both my upper lip and lower lip. Mabe 1/2 an inch along both sides of my upper lip, around the corners, and along maybe 1/4 inch of my lower lip. Hope this helps describe what I had done. It's very precise, at least in Dr. Mascaro's hands. I asked for a slight upturn and showed him one of his own before and afters. He asked if I wanted it slightly flatter than that since it was a bit of a smirk, and I said no, I want exactly that. And it's what he gave me! I'm just wondering if you might need a little redo or a lift that involves your lower lips, too (if it doesn't already -- I wasn't sure from your pics).

Modified lip lift
It’s been 8 weeks post procedure... still struggling with the results....And the issues that come along with it. The corners of my mouth turn down word, I still have no side lip, I have sinus issues, I find saliva coming from the corners of my mouth… Especially the right side where the deeper marionette line is, no movement or feeling in my upper lip. I do understand the healing process is longer than the doctors will tell you.… And I am holding out hope and trust in my doctor that all these will be resolved over the course of the next two months.

What does Dr. Talei say about the drooling and the downward slope of your corners given that he did do a corner lip lift after all? I hope he offers to do it again if it is unsuccessful. Has he offered any temporary solutions? I think I've seen him put botox at the corner of people's lips to help lift them. The lack of feeling and inability to move your upper lip is totally normal at this point. The good news is that your lips are looking really good and your shortened philtrum is a real improvement and creating a nice balance in your face. Also, your scar is looking very good! The recovery is rough (especially for Talei's more involved lip lifts) but you will be pleased. You should explore some things to do along the way to make the process easier. Also, are you taking a high dose of vitamin C? Consider taking Quercetin and Bromelain supplements as well. Ask Talei about what you can do about the corners to help you feel and look better. I had some filler put in the sides of my upper lip only 6 weeks out because I couldn't stand having the awkward hiked up middle anymore while I healed and this helped tremendously. Keep us posted.

I haven’t talked to him yet because I’m meeting him next week in person. I did send an email to their office 2 weeks ago addressing these issues asking someone to please contact me because I’m really struggling with this recovery but I never heard back from anyone.
Reading everyone else’s reviews on this site has helped me to be patient with this recovery. I understand Dr. Talei wants everyone to have a successful outcome on their procedures so I’m confident he will address these. I live in Arizona so it’s a little bit more difficult to make appointments with him. I have no choice except to just be patient, recover and let Dr. Talley work his magic.

You have a great attitude, and I think you are correct that you are in really good hands with Dr. Talei and you will be happy in the end. Doctors such as he are perfectionists and don't want unhappy patients and I think will do what they can within what is possible to make things right. The recovery is indeed rougher and longer than one would think. Keep us posted, and good luck!
