Mastectomy Reconstruction Direct to Implant

WORTH IT
42 yo and had my first mammogram that showed DCIS. My choices were 1) lumpectomy with radiation and tamoxifen for 5 years. 2) Mastectomy. Opted for double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction because I wanted to take the bad stuff out and not put harmful things into my body. I didn’t want my health compromised from medications that could increase my chances of getting other cancers. I have children to raise and I want to be the best version of my for as long as I can.
So far I am very happy with the results. The worst of the recovery was the first 5-6 weeks. My reconstruction looks amazing and totally natural. But going into the surgery we didn’t know if I was going to come out in expanders, implants, or nothing at all. It all hinges on blood flow. Preparing for each possible outcome was very difficult for me. I am over 7 weeks out and starting to get back into the swing of things. It’s now that I seem to be more sensitive to what I just went thru. Which in turn has made me more appreciative to my loved ones and life that I have.

Thank you for sharing your experience and encouragement and I really appreciate that. (Also congratulations as everything went smooth!!)
I am in the same position as I am tested DCIS on my right breast. Trying to research more on which type of reconstruction surgery would be best with least complications and maintenance. I will appreciate if you can share what type of reconstruction surgery you had and if you have any implant (saline or silicone) ? Or FLAP Surgery ? Much appreciated!
Blessings,
Natalie

Do you have chronic nerve pain after the surgery? I am researching post mastectomy pain. Syndrome (PMPS) as some women experience pain that do not go away.... really worries me.
