I have struggled with excessive sweating since I was a young teen. I was excited to learn of a procedure called Miradry, offered by Ridenour Plastic Surgery. I was already a Botox patient so I called and made an appointment for a consultation with Sarah Brinkmann. She explained the procedure to me in detail and answered all my questions. I was excited and I scheduled my procedure. The cost was $1950, which is less than the cost of two Botox underarm treatments than are not permanent.
The evening before Miradry I went to CVS To purchase ice packs. I was lucky enough to find a sling that was intended for use of neck pain and I purchased two for around $18 each to use after the procedure.
The day of the procedure I had a friend drive me so I could be given a Xanax to help with the anxiety of th procedure. Once I felt comfortable we started. Sarah used local anesthesia injections to numb my underarms. This is the most painful part of the procedure. As a person who struggles with needles I wasn’t looking forward to this part, and Sarah did a great job in getting it over with quickly. The pain subsided after a few minutes. She then began using the miradry device on my underarm. I felt nothing, it was totally painless. She was finished with the first one within about 10-15 minutes. Then we did the other side. Again, the injection was not pain free but the miradry part was.
After the procedure I was numb for at least 3-4 hours but I still kept ice packs on my underarms to combat swelling. My underarms were pretty swollen. After the numbing wore off I felt pain similar to having a sunburn. It wasn’t unbearable or even terribly uncomfortable. I took ibuprofen in the evening before I went to bed. I was rotating ice packs roughly 6”x8” every 4 hours or so. I went to sleep with the slings on and a fresh ice pack.
The day of the procedure I saw bruising which was expected. I wore ice packs the entire second day but I was able to get rid of the sling and put smaller ice packs into a sports bra. I still had only minor pain on day 2. I was swollen for about 3 days. Day 3 I had no pain. I was bruised for about a week but still pain free.
I have also noticed an unexpected bonus of Miradry - my underarm hair has dramatically thinned out and grows much slower now.
I’m about 1 month post procedure and I am giving it 5/5 Stars. I’m very glad I did it and it was totally worth it. I also liked that the sweat reduction was instantaneous. It’s summer in St. Louis and my underarms are completely dry. I can finally wear tank tops and thin t shirts! I’m extremely pleased with the results and highly recommend Miradry at Ridenour Plastic Surgery!
