Microneedling

UPDATED FROM brookegryb91

04/21/2019 update

I have been continuing to use the same skin care routine as above, eating healthy and drinking lots of water.
Just 12 days later after my last update and I am still seeing lots of improvement. I have very faint pinkness (hard to see in pictures) and tiny little dots where that look like needle holes to me but they are better. I’ve stopped spending so much time obsessing and looking up horror stories every single day. That has eased my mind so much and stress does not help the skin. I will update in a few more weeks!

For anyone wondering about my age for healing, I am 27 years old.
The horror stories are the worst. It takes months for you to see the full results from this procedure, just be patient. Good luck.
I’m pretty patient as I’m healing perfectly fine and fast - you would know if you read the whole thing:) I’m just posting updates for anyone else that may experience in this in the future and isn’t sure what to do or is looking for tips! Thanks!
Was this from microneedling or microneedling Rf? I got burned very badly with Medicreations microneedling Rf and for the past 8 months have been trying to remedy burn scars. Prp injections have been helpful

I have attached a picture below for an update.
I did end up seeing a 3rd dermatologist that I traveled to a bigger city to see. It was finally nice to hear someone say they could see the damage. She suggested it was PIE and that it would settle.
I looked up how to heal PIE and a damaged moisture barrier. I came across an awesome medical skin blogger (Renee Rouleau) on how to repair a damage skin barrier. I began using only natural and oil based products. The inflammation has gone away and the marks / spots are better. I can tell my face has more volume too. My skin isn’t 100% back to normal but is much better.
This is my current skin care routine for any one that may be suffering from the same thing. I do have EXTREMELY sensitive skin that is eczema / rosacea prone.
MORNING:
1. wash face with dermalogoica cleanser (calming for sensitive skin). I only use my fingers - no wash cloths or exfoliates.
2. Let the skin air dry. Do not pat with a towel or wipe.
3. Take raw cocoa butter, raw shea butter and coconut oil from vita coco to make a mixture for a moisturizer. Sometimes, I will add palmers cocoa butter for it to apply better. I get the fragrance free and hypoallergenic one. I know some people may that it’s crazy since it’s a cheap $4 product from Walmart.. but it works!
5. Let mousturizer soak in for 10-15 minutes
6. Apply bare republic face sunscreen - it has shea, grapeseed oil, raspberry oil and carrot seed oil. It feels AMAZING and shea / grapeseed aid in restoring the damaged moisture barrier.
My night time routine is basically the same thing but NO sunscreen. I also go a little overboard on the moisturizer at night to where Iook a greasy mess... but once again, it works!

I have also really gotten serious about my diet. No alcohol, no caffeine. I only drink water and herbal teas. I eat a diet full of anti-inflammatory fruits and vegetables. Only fresh, no canned or frozen. For meats, I only eat salmon, lean chicken breast and fresh turkey breast. I also try to avoid dairy at all costs. I workout 3-4 times a week, as well. I feel much better and think it has helped a lot. I am a believer of “you are what you eat.”

For supplements, I took MSM powder for inflammation for 2 weeks. I noticed I was not able to sleep so I cut that out. I am now on a collagen powder supplement by neocell. I love it! It doesn’t have a bad taste and can be mixed with almost anything.

Also, try to cut the stress levels. I spent so much time stressing about my face and skin, it was probably only making it worse and not better. I am open to talk to anyone that is experiencing damage to their skin!
Wow! You’re doing all the right things. I bet you look fabulous!
Hi Brooke! Do you also take vitamins if you do can you please share I’m 3 months post op from microneedling and I can’t look at myself my face looks 10 years older.
I was taking MSM powder to begin with for inflammation but I didn’t like the side effects (tired but couldn’t sleep, etc) so I stopped. As of now, I only take collagen powder every other day. I am truly trying to get my vitamins from foods- sweet potato for vitamin A, avocados, okra, bell peppers (super high in vitamin C), oatmeal, bananas, kiwi etc. you want foods high in vitamin C, vitamin A & E, zinc and silica.

But I will say the raw cocoa by Rise N Shine Has done wonders - you can get it on amazon for about $15. I truly think that has been the main healer
Thank you so much for the tips!
I also use Manuka Honey as a mask.It seems to smooth out the skin. This is a long road back so be patient.
This update was 4/9 and not 4/19 - typo on my end!
I'm not getting anything done. Seen too many horror stories & $$hungry drs who don't care.I look good-don't need to destroy what I look like now!
ORIGINAL POST

Microneedling Left my Skin Red and Super Dry

I had my treatment done at Glo medspa in Wilmington NC. If I could give this place a 0 star, I would. I wanted the treatment for fine lines, I have never had acne and do not have any major scarring.
I had my first microneedling treatment December 10th 2018 and everything was great - healing was very fast.
My second treatment was January 29th and was super aggressive and deep by the same aesthetician Nanci. She said she went “as deep as the tool could go” on my cheeks. It has been almost 2 months and my face is red, splotchy and extremely dry. It’s like I have a constant sunburn that will not go away. It also has a very rough texture. I have been very gentle with my skin, moisturizing constantly and apply a broad spectrum sunscreen everyday. I have even started MSM powder in hopes that it will heal my skin.
I went back to the aesthetician about 3 weeks after and they said my skin “looks great” so I talked to the doctor that is on site. She assured me everything would settle down in the next few weeks. Here we are a month later with no improvement. I have seen 2 dermatologists lately and they have not a clue what’s going on. I live in a small town where doctors are not very familiar with microneedling so that may be why.
At this point I am desperate for answers on how to heal my skin and why it is like this. My stomach turns every time I look in the mirror and have been having depression from it.

I can only say that I have had a series of tree treatments, don’t really see improvement in skin texture. However, dermatologist said it takes a few months for treatment to work
Yes I understand it takes time but my review was about damage being done - not that I haven’t seen any results.
You might consider washing with oil - fill a small bottle with 1/2 castor oil and 1/2 grapeseed oil (not grapefruit lol), then moisturize with evening primrose oil. When I wash my face with the oil, I massage it into my face and then use a clean warm washcloth to take of my make up The oils have never made my face break out and are very healing. You are correct that your face does look irritated, but nonetheless, you have a beautiful complexion. I wish you the very best.
I have been using oil based products and they seem to be working very nice!
I am not a doctor, but your skin sounds inflamed and when it is inflamed you don't want to do anything abrasive to it to make it worse. One natural thing you can use is milk, regular, whole milk, don't buy anything fancy, just plain, whole milk from your local grocery store. Pour the milk in a bowl and dip it in a washcloth, and place the washcloth on your face (you may have to wring it out a little bit) on your face. I used this when I burned my face with a Retinol product. Use a hat and a non irritating sunscreen, religiously. Also, if it doesn't get better, go to a dermatologist and ask for a cream, I think it is called Luxaderm, it is great for burned skin, and it should work for your skin to heal it. You may have to be persistent because the dermatologist maybe like, well you don't have a burn, this won't work, but if you treat the skin like a burn (which is what I did with my skin because it's like the retinol burned me) it should help. I hope this helps you. Oh and use the milk on your face for at least a month, unless you are getting irritated from it, which you shouldn't from regular whole milk. You can also use as a moisturizer a product from Lush called ultrabland. It is moisturizing and has all natural
ingredients. I would gently clean my face with Cetaphil at night, then put on the milk, and if needed use the Ultrabland from Lush. It is thick, and you can use just a dollop, and then gently wipe it off - gently. It is moisturizing and it should help with the dryness. Keep using sunscreen, use a hat, cleanse gently, moisturize gently and go to the dermatologist and ask for the burn cream if nothing changes in a month or so. I had the reddest cheeks you could imagine and now you wouldn't be able to ever know it happened. I hope this helps. Please keep me posted as to how things turn out. I hope it all turns out great!
It was inflammed but that has subsided as soon as I started using cocoa butter / shea butter and coconut oil as my moisturizer! I’m sure the milk does work but I don’t eat dairy and actually breakout / get red when I consume a lot of it. I’m just not a believer in using dairy products but I really do appreciate your suggestion!
I have permanent scarring and dark spots from Microneedling. This was two years ago. The only thing that helped (and it's not perfect) was being very gentle to my skin for ages and then a vitamin C with collagen. I swear Microneedling depleted the collagen in my skin and aged me. I wish you luck! I think this treatment should be banned or at least there should be better training.
I have been very gentle not using any exfoliates and don’t plan on it for awhile. I actually stopped using vitamin C because it seemed to be causing more inflammation. Now that I use oils and butters, I have no inflammation and the marks are fading. My face is fuller too. As a teen I had bad Retin-A damage and cocoa butter was the only thing that healed it - not sure why I didn’t think about it sooner!
Was your treatment preformed by a licensed esthetician who is full trained and Certified in microneedling? My thoughts, probably not. Using the correct pre treatment protocol and needle depth and speep slonf with correct serum for infusion, your skin has no choice to repair collagen, elastin and look better.
Sorry you gad such a bad experience
Actually, where I got it done is a very reputable and liked spa that has been in business for quite some time. My boyfriend and friends go there and have never had an issue. I personally think it was just the aesthetician even though she has supposedly worked in derm for 20+ years. However, I personally would agree she is not qualified and was too aggressive for my skin type. I would not recommend anyone having anything performed by her. On the brighter side, my face is see improvement.
It is unfortunate for this spa. However,
I am so happy for you to hear you see improvement. :)
