31 yo female with long history of acne scars.

I have been on a 10 year journey to heal my acne and then my unfortunate acne scars. I had 6 non-ablative laser treatments following my accutane and I saw zero results. I then tried Mixto Co2 with zero results. I had 2 excisions that made the scars look worse. After feelings of hopelessness and tears I decided on dermabrasion. After two dermabrasion treatments spaced 1 year apart I finally felt more comfortable in my own skin. The dermabrasion caused some texture irregularity and pore changes along with hypopigmentation but it was still a 60-70% improvement from my scars. But over the years I continued to research better ways to improve skin and acne scars. Alas, I came upon microneedling. What a life changer!!!! I am finally, after 10 years, not afraid to stand under horrible spot lights, even those in bars and clubs! After one treatment, I am a believer in this miracle treatment. I can say I see a 40-50% improvement with just one treatment! I am counting down the days until I can get another treatment. I had only my cheeks done, but next time I will do my full face. I will post pictures soon! I'm assuming many of you are like me and check this site as well as others for guidance in improving our self-esteem and beauty. Feel free to message here or PM me for questions you might have regarding my long journey!

Love to hear more and see some of your pics!

Could you please post pictures! I would love to see your progress. I am getting my first micro needling treatment this weekend. I would love to see how your scars are compared to mine. I'm anxious to find a treatment that works!

I would definitely recommend it over the other expensive options like lasers. Not only did it improve my scars but my overall skin saw a huge improvement. My pores are smaller, skin is softer, makeup goes on smoother. Lasers failed to do any of this, and they definitely didn't help my scars any.

Hi, I'm thinking for microneedling PRP for acne scar. How long your face looks red and it's worth?
January 26, 2017
I think it's worth it, especially for the price. I was definitely red the first day and they recommend you don't wear makeup. Day 2-3 i was still red but able to wear makeup. Day 4 I had a few red spots where she went the deepest but it wasn't bad at all. PRP is supposed to make the healing process faster but I didn't want to pay the additional fee until I saw if basic microneedling improved my scars.

Hi! Your journey sounds a lot like mine! I am so happy that you are happy with what microneedling has done for you! I know how it feels to continue to search and try different "solutions", only to be disappointed. I don't see the envelope icon that would allow me to PM you through this realself portal. However, if you could let me know how I might be able to PM you to talk about your journey, I would appreciate it. I have been seriously contemplating microneedling, and do live in the Seattle-Tacoma area, and would consider Dr. WIndle's office based on your comments here. Thank you for sharing! May you continue to see only great improvements!

I just sent you a PM, so hopefully you see it!

Hi kmo! Thanks for this post. I have a question - you have been using dermaroller or dermapen for your treatmant ? Couse microneedling is refering in many articles for both of this tools

Dermapen.

2nd microneedling treatment!

kmo1968
Day 2 after my second treatment. I'm excited to see my continued improvement! I noticed after about 5 days all the microswelling was gone and I saw the more true results which were still very impressive. I've added a few photos to show my before and after.

I'll post more pictures once the redness and swelling have gone down with this second treatment.

Thanks for sharing. So it was about 5 days before things calmed down? did your screen peel and have a sandy texture?
February 7, 2017
Yes, after about 5 days I no longer had redness or swelling. No sandy texture but my skin did feel tight and like I had a bad sunburn.

Prior to your treatments before, did dermabrasion help alot or would you have gone with microneedling instead, if you had known the results. IvEl numerous stories of bad side effects of laser treatments. As of now, I'm going to start off with microneedling with prp until I find the right doctor to proceed with deeper treatments. What do you recommend?

You are so lovely looking! I'm glad you're feeling more confident with the micro needling. I don't have the acne scars but surgical scars and i bought myself a micro needle roller... Only one treatment so far so we will see

Hello, did you treatment done with a derma-roller or a "pen" type device?
January 26, 2017
A pen was used for the more scarred areas because she could go deeper and a roller was used over the rest of my face.

Inspiring results. Do you know if there is a major difference when this procedure is done by a dermatologist as compared to a trained professional at some spa? I have a quote from a dermatologist using a pen devise for $900 for 3 sessions and another from an anti-aging spa (using dermapen) for $250 for 3 sessions. I am confused.

I think an MD is more comfortable using a deeper needle because they understand the anatomy and physiology of the skin. I did not have a great experiences at a med-spa with laser hair removal because I think they tend to be very conservative. If you're not a 100% sure with what you're doing it is better to play it on the safe side with someone's health, and I think that is what happens at a medspas. A doctor's office is going to cost more, but I trust their expertise more. For my experience, it was done by a esthetician but she is under the guidance of a plastic surgeon. Because it is such a huge difference in cost, I would make an appointment at both places and see which one gives a better impression. Ask for before and after pics of THEIR personal clients. I can't begin to tell you how many times I was shown before and after pics of patients that weren't even there own, they were ones given to them from the company selling the laser/machine. Big red flag for me.

Hi. Do you know what size needles were on the roller that she used on your skin? I'm an esthetician and I have the same pitting as you from acne from 19 years ago. Thankfully I've aged very slowly but I know I will start loosing the volume on my cheeks soon so I had better do something about my scars now. I just turned 40, no fine lines but I have a round face. Where I work we will be adding this procedure to our services. I'm just curious as to the mm on the roller.
February 10, 2017
She uses 2.0mm needles on my check which is the only place I have acne scars. I have a few fine lines on my forehead but I'm not sure what size needle she uses for those, but I know it is smaller.

Thanks :)
