A Pinnacle Performer
My journey to Dr. Anthony Bared for a revision rhinoplasty began with a post on RealSelf titled "How to find a great rhinoplasty surgeon?"
A Dr. Funcik responded, "Look for someone who has been in practice for a number of years, has plenty of examples of noses similar to yours, and spends time with you. Probably 95% of surgeons who perform the procedure are not pinnacle performers. A good endorsement would be to find a surgeon to whom other plastic surgeons refer their difficult noses. You may have to travel a bit to find such a surgeon, but it will be worth it. There are several in Florida."
I contacted Dr. Funcik who informed me that he refers his patients to Anthony Bared, MD., a “Master” Rhinoplasty Physician based in the Florida. I booked a consultation.
I felt that my nose projected too much and that my nostrils were too big. To make a long story short, Dr. Bared declined to perform a revision rhinoplasty. In his opinion it just wasn't indicated. I slept on it. Not convinced, I emailed Dr. Bared asking if I might be a candidate for just an alar base reduction. He kindly replied the same day:
I make my recommendations for my patients as if they were coming to me as a family member. I do not recommend any excision either in or around the nostrils for you. I do perform these regularly when they are indicated for my patients. Alar excisions are limited to reducing the size of the nostrils or the flare, neither of which I would recommend for you. Additionally, you are taking the risk of a scar around the base of the nose with any of these procedures. - Dr. Bared
I'm grateful to Dr. Bared helping me to shift my perspective and internalize that my nose is just fine. I'm also thankful that he didn't perform unnecessary surgery. (Prior to meeting with Dr. Bared, I consulted with a well respected PS who provided me with a quote and would have operated. I was dissuaded after additional fact finding. I dodged a bullet). I cancelled my third consultation. My husband, who loves my nose, is also relieved.
Danielle Guidi, Dr. Bared's Patient Advisor, also deserves kudos for her professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills.
If you're thinking of having a rhinoplasty or a revision rhinoplasty, which is a more complex surgery, do yourself a favor and meet with Dr. Bared. You won't regret it. If he concludes that he can help you, you can proceed with confidence knowing that you truly are in the best hands.
