I made an appointment with Dr.hochsteins office. I had called the day before my appointment to cancel because I was rushed to the emergency room. I think called his office to make an appointment since I was feeling better. The girl who answered the phone told me that I would have to pay a 75.00 rescheduling fee!! I was so shocked I even called them from my bedside in the emergency room to cancel and was told no problem call back when you would like to reschedule in which I did and the girl was so rude and told me I would have to pay the 75.00 rescheduling fee even after all this. I guess I will find another surgeon very upsetting.

As I understand your frustration, we do have a strict policy on rescheduling/cancellated their complimentary consultation. The policy I believe is very fair. The policy states that should a patient need to cancel or reschedule, we need at least a 24 hour notice to your appointment time otherwise we then do charge a $75 fee which will be applied to your surgery. This is stated on our website, sent to the patient in a text reminder 2 days before their appointment and is explained to the patient when our front office personnel calls and speaks to the patient directly or leaves a message confirming their appointment the day before.
We set aside time specifically for the patient for the consultation and when a patient cancels last minute or less than 24 hours in advance that could be a space for another patient who we turned down at that time.
Here is the exact verbiage that is emailed and texted to you once you set an appointment date:
* Your appointment time is valuable and has been reserved specifically for you. If it is necessary to reschedule your appointment, please provide us with a 24 hour notice. Otherwise, effective January 15, 2014 a $75.00 fee will be required in order to reschedule your appointment in which will be applied to your surgery once scheduled.**
However, due to your circumstances if you can kindly email our patient coordinator Amanda at amanda@lhochsteinmd.com she can setup the consult for you and we would be delighted to wavier your fee for you.
