My experience with Dr. Epstein and his staff has...

My experience with Dr. Epstein and his staff has been a very positive one. After years of debating the merits of an eyebrow transplant, I decided to go for it. A colleague of mine recommended Dr. Epstein, so I made an inquiry via email. I received prompt and thorough responses from both Dr. Epstein and his assistant, Dan regarding the procedure, costs, and expectations. I sent in photos of my eyebrows and hairline, and Dr. Epstein replied with his opinion on what would be needed to achieve a more symmetrical, balanced look for my face. Even when I had to delay my decision due to coverage at work, the office was very agreeable and understanding.
After weighing the pros and cons of the two options, I elected to go with Follicular Unit Extraction to harvest my donor hairs, which is a more time consuming and thus more costly. But for me it was the right choice.
My husband and I flew down to Miami from Tennessee for the procedure. Upon arrival, we met Dr. Epstein, who has a very calming, gentle bedside manner. I was a bit nervous to say the least, and I am in the medical profession, which probably only makes matters worse because I assume the worst when it comes to complications and potential risks. He made me feel much better. We discussed my expectations, he drew an outline for my brows two different ways and then gave me the option between the two. He has a good "eye" for how the eyebrow should frame the face. It took a few hours to harvest hairs via FUE (be prepared for that) and then a bit more to make the incisions and transplant the follicles, but I felt comfortable the whole time. They provided a valium and a Benadryl beforehand, in addition to antibiotic (prophylactic) and steroid to help with swelling. I think I actually feel asleep during the harvesting part.
The next day I returned to the clinic to get my hair washed by his nurse, Cindy. So sweet!
During the course of the procedure, I bled a bit. My advice is to take the vitamin C and K beforehand if recommended. I didn't. I'm not a pill person. I wish now that I had. So I had quite a bit of bruising. Nothing that sunglasses wouldn't cover, and I had made arrangements at work to avoid "facing the public" when I returned to work on post-op day 5.
It's been 8 days. My eyebrows look nice. He did a great job shaping them! The crusting and bruising make them look really dark, which gives me a weird look since my complexion is so fair, but I love their shape! I've done my best to follow his post-op directions to the letter in effort to achieve the best possible outcome.
I didn't need any of the pain medication that was prescribed other than one Aleve the next day. I felt sore, but it wasn't really painful. My scalp has some strange tingling sensations, but I read that could happen, so I haven't been concerned. The donor site on the back of my head is actually more sore than the eyebrows.
The hardest part is not touching your eyebrows when they start to itch. Benadryl has been my best friend. With FUE, a large section of your hair is shaved so it will be many months before that has grown out, but that is hidden beneath the rest of my hair.
My experience so far has been very positive. I'm so glad I chose Dr. Epstein for this procedure. I plan to update again once I see how the grafts take.
