41 Yr Old with Genetically Thin Eyebrows - Miami, FL
Never in a million years would I have thought of...
Never in a million years would I have thought of getting a hair transplant. When I thought of transplants, I thought of older, balding men. But, when I noticed that I was looking different in my pictures because of a lack of eyebrows, I knew I had to do something. I researched permanent make-up for several months and found a specialist who traveled around the world teaching the hair-stroke technique (more natural hair-like look). I ended up not having the procedure because my skin tone was not ideal and the long-term care of the tattoo meant no sun, sweating, salt or chlorine water for life. If I did have a normal life and went to the beach, worked out, swam in my pool or just walked around in sunny Florida, I would risk altering the appearance and longevity of the tattoo eyebrows. So, I researched my options and transplants kept coming up. I wanted to have eyebrows but I didn't want to sacrifice my lifestyle or change my appearance for the worse. I searched the doctors that did hair transplants and went on a couple of consultations. The places I went to did not specialize in eyebrows but stated that they did do them. I didn't want just anyone doing them, I wanted the best; a specialist. That's when I found Dr. Jeffrey Epstein. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, and The American Board of Otolaryngology. He specializes in eyebrow transplants. He has a special technique in how the hairs are transplanted so that they grow in a natural way. I booked my appointment in Miami as soon as possible. I knew he was the one! I watched all his YouTube videos on eyebrow transplants, I read all his reviews on Vitals and on Realself.com. From the phone consult with Roxy to the sweet, welcoming greeting from Danny when I arrived at the office, to the one-on-one consult with Dr. Epstein himself, I knew I was in the right place. The office was warm and inviting. The staff was professional and caring. Dr. Epstein took his time listening to what I desired in my new eyebrows. He looked at pics that I brought in and discussed what would look best according to the structure of my face; he was very patient. Once he measured and drew my brows in (I don't have the skill to draw them) I was on my way. I was going to need about 700 grafts and I decided to do the FUE technique which does not require a long cut to the back of my head. The staff was wonderful! Lourdes was so sweet! She sat and patted my arm as I was getting the numbing injection, which stung pretty bad. But she sat there and talked to me as if we were old friends catching up on lost time. I loved her!!! Elsa was one of the girls that not only extracted the grafts from my head but later put them into the precise incisions that Dr. Epstein made for them. She was a truly the best part of it all. She was very knowledgeable in what she was doing. She was patient and caring and very sensitive to my comfort. She stopped a couple of times and had me look to see if the progress was what I wanted. Dr. Epstein came in several times and, between the 3 of us, shaped the eyebrows to my desired look. They were both very professional, and very tolerable. I am very picky and they never made me feel as if I were asking too much. Everyone that was in that office building just had a favorable demeanor to them. Everyone seemed to enjoy where they worked and what they did. When you have that type of environment you know you are in the right place. I would highly recommend anyone considering eyebrow tattooing to not even bother with it. When you have found the perfect solution to your problem, why go anywhere else? Dr. Jeffrey Epstein and his staff are where all your problems will be solved. They are true professionals and experts at what they do. Thank you Dr. Epstein, Elsa and staff!!
I will update my progress in the months to come as my eyebrows heal and come in.

I'm also a past patient from Dr. Jeffrey Epstein. I found myself in a similar situation where I was looking around for the absolute best person in the eyebrow transplant business, and that's where I discovered Epstein. I had my transplant way back in 2008! And if I remember correctly, we did about 350 to 400 grafts taken from the side of my head. Unfortunately they didn't have the FUE procedure back then, so I still have an incredibly ridiculous scar there. It's become a real problem, because as a guy, I like to keep my hair very short, but I no longer can do that for fear of revealing the scar - and opening myself up to unwanted questions pertaining to it. UGH! I'm hoping to get this taken care of one day.
As for the actual hair growth, it was initially very disappointing - sorry to say. I had visions of all my self-conscious worries behind me. As the days go by, those little hairs wold slowly grow longer and longer. Or so I thought! You see, my sparse brows are due to my genetic heritage and kinda runs in the family. But it's something that never looks correct and growing up I'd be made fun of for it. This is something I've always carried with me into adulthood and still rings true today. I never leave my house without my baseball cap pulled low over my head. I hate that.
Anyways, back to the growth. It was sparse to say the least. And my extremely curly hair isn't really an ideal selection to be used for a natural appearing brow. But Dr. Jeffrey Epstein is a man of his word and allowed me to come back in for a "touch up" procedure, absolutely free of charge. Of course traveling across the country can be expensive, but at least I didn't have to pay for another procedure. I don't remember the second graft count but it was fairly prominent because of the initial lack of hair growth. When visiting Dr. Epstein the second time in 2009, I still remember him looking at my progress and in a disappointing manner, he said "This is not typical."
I think he was a bit perplexed at my situation. Well, he wasn't the only one that was disappointed.
Well that was 2009 which I had the second procedure. And I slowly watched the progress. I did have more pronounced growth, enough at least to settle my self-conscious worries for a while. It still wasn't what I hoped the brows to be, but it was something. If I were to grade my results as if it were an exam - I'd say it was a C+. (This is my very first post on this site, so I'll have to start a proper thread and stared review later. I'll probably copy and paste much of what I've written here.)
Unfortunately as the years have gone by, the brows slowly have become thinner and thinner. Now it's almost back to square one. the vast majority of the hairs are gone and my extreme self-consciousness and worry has returned. I'm pretty bummed about it (to say the least). My current situation is practiculy that of an eyebrow comb-over. Because much over the growth is one spot. Gah, it's awful! But, I'm really hoping to have another procedure done soon enough, if I can find the right guy for the job. It's just so darn expensive and really, it's a major gamble because the results are never certain. I don't tell you all this to refrain your excitement, but I just wanted to fill you in on my experience with the same clinic. And hopefully let you know that nothing is the end all be all. I'm wishing you luck on your progress and hopefully the results will be better than mine.
Please do fill us in on your journey.
