Dr Maercks – a truly talented and dedicated...

Dr Maercks – a truly talented and dedicated surgeon whom has as through and proficient team.
I am from the UK and had been thinking about breast surgery for a few years. In 2011, for personal reasons, I decided I wanted to become extremely healthy and peak my fitness levels in the gym and on the running track. Following this life changing decision I lost a lot of weight (From 5”7, 79kg, 36D bra to 5”7, 70kg somewhat deflated 34B/C bra size). Weight loss came with the cost of breast tissue which was definitely the downside of my life changing journey.

I am from the UK and live in the capital London, with easy access to loads of talented surgeons all over the country. Despite this, I was not able to find a surgeon who was an expert in the Transaxillary method of breast Surgery. (This was what I wanted). Many surgeons would say they ‘could use this incisions site’ but I was never 100% confident in their abilities. This was mainly because of either A) They didn’t use this incision often or B) it was not their preferred choice.

However, after a few years of research and really becoming comfortable with my decision to have a BA, I found Dr. Maercks based in Miami, Florida. An expert in his field, Dr. Rian Maercks is known for being a master of the Cold-Subfacial technique, one that he carries out via the transaxillary incision. My main concern was the level of aftercare once I returned home to the UK from Miami. However, after a number of telephone calls and video conference calls I felt extremely reassured that my aftercare expectations would be fulfilled and that Dr. Maercks and his team were more than capable from managing this at a distance, with all the due care and attention necessary. (They also have a large number of out of town patients from the UK and Europe overall).

Now, following my discussions with Dr Maercks in October 2014, we had discussed possibly carrying out my procedure in April 2015. However, as impulsive as my nature is, early – mid December 2014 I suddenly wanted to have my procedure done ASAP. I called Dr Maercks office who worked hard at assigning me a date before Christmas. Crazy I know?!! Although his team tried their best, the earliest time they could carry out my procedure was 29th December 2014. I thought this was amazing given the short notice, so I happily accepted.

Weeks leading up to my procedure his team provided me with a huge amount of supports, answering all my questions, worries and uncertainties. I was able to speak to the doctor any time who was also very caring and supportive.

(May I highlight that Dr Maercks and his team were extremely supportive also very objective and transparent. Never did I feel like I was being sold anything or that this procedure was being pushed one me. All the questions I had were answered with honesty validated by Dr Maercks, experience and skills. Both his team and he were very relaxed, engaging and confident which made me even more comfortable with having this procedure done so far from home?).

Day of the surgery

I cannot thank Dr. Maercks and his team for how supportive they were. Day of the surgery I was very nervous. I had my Mother, Sister and Aunt with me who was also very supportive.

Dr. Maercks and his team were very nice, relaxed and reassuring. I was able to talk to the Doctor before surgery who thoroughly went through a number of things before the procedure could happen. We also discussed size. Now this was very interesting as I was torn between having very large breasts (to get my money worth or so I thought) and suitably sized breasts. Dr. Maercks previously advised that he was not the type of surgeon to use overly sized implants for his patients. He only wants to create pretty breasts. After a lengthy discussion on size, he had asked for my permission to use his judgement on size and trusting him I gave my permission.

After my surgery Dr Maercks and his team were on standby for anything I needed. He also advised that I get in as many check-ups with him before I flew back. This made perfect sense and I did not feel like I was being a nuisance either as the doctor and his team were so accomodating. (Another thing I really liked about Dr. Maercks was the fact that he did not want me to fly home back to the UK for a minimum of 5 days post op. This made me feel like I was in good hands and that my health and safety was at the forefront of his responsibility to his patient).

After I returned back to the UK, Dr. Maercks and his team were extremely hands on with the the aftercare. As this is at a distance, I felt so secure and very safe. Any questions I had, Dr. Maercks was on hand to answer my questions. I also had the opportunity to have as many Vide conferences as I desired. But the truth of the matter is I really didn’t need it. I was healing very well, off my pain meds rather quickly and the twins looked fine. I did receive a call once a week from Dr. Maercks office just to check that I was ok.

Today I am 5 days away from being 3 months post op. I sent Dr. Maercks some photos of my progress a month ago and need to do the same again soon as they have changed again. Although I am not able to say I am completely happy with my results as I am still healing and they are still changing, I am definitely pleased thus far with Dr. Maercks work and am optimistically looking forward to what the final results will be.
