First off, I'd like to say that I am a surgeon...

First off, I'd like to say that I am a surgeon myself. I did a lot of research before choosing a plastic surgeon. I traveled from out of town to have my breast augmentation with Dr. H. His bedside manner is horrible; he spent very little time with me pre-op, but I figured that was because he was just busy. I feel the real reason is that he just doesn't care. I feel like he rushed through the surgery itself and did a very sloppy job. My breasts were pretty normal pre-op, just small. I choose to have a peri-areolar incision since I thought those scars would be the least visible. My areolas are now totally different sizes... they were perfectly the same before surgery. My nipples point in two different directions, which they didn't do pre-op either. In addition, the moment I woke up from anesthesia and looked at my breasts, I knew they were too big. I asked to be a C, and I ended up with DD!!! The office kept telling me they were swollen, which they were not. Breast augmentation results in very little swelling, and 6 weeks post op they were still DD. The office kept making excuses as to why my results were as such, and I felt like they just didn't want to deal with me. They wanted me to wait at least 6 months before having any sort of revision done. I consulted with several other surgeons who said there was no way I should wait 6 months to downsize because my pectoral muscles and skin would be all stretched out by then and result in saggy breasts. I ended up having to have everything fixed (by another physician). As a surgeon myself, I cannot understand why someone would do such a sloppy, horrible job. There is no excuse for making someone's areolas different sizes. And why would you give someone breast implants 2 sizes larger than they asked for??? I would steer clear of this office. I don't know why he is so popular.

I had a negative experience with Dr. H. as well. I agree with you. He has no bedside manners. I chose to go to a different plastic surgeon, that I can trust, for my revision and paid full price. You and I went for the booby god and ended up with the anti-christ! :-(

This post is grossly inaccurate. I feel that I should set the record straight so that other people do not read this and make a mistake. To begin with a 339cc implant is relatively small and when you start as an A cup it will not bring you to a DD. It is generally considered a small C implant. Decreasing it to a 286cc implant is a minimal change and to think that reducing an implant size by 53cc will take you from a DD to a full C is wrong. It is roughly a 1/3 cup size change. The comment that "breast augmentation results in very little swelling" is also wrong and dangerous. Some patients have so much swelling that the final size is half of what it is initially. 6 weeks is not nearly enough time to see what the final result will be. It is also wrong that a surgeon could alter the nipple position without doing a full lift, which was not done. Nipple position is determined by the patient and any changes from the pre op condition is due to lack of settling. This is also true of the areola size. At 6 weeks the stitches have not dissolved and they always alter the shape. The patient was warned and told of this fact. Once they dissolved the areolas would return to their natural size and shape, or slightly larger as is what happens after augmentation. It is also not true that keeping an implant in 4 or 6 months would stretch the muscle or skin resulting in a sag particularly given the fact the new implant is not much smaller and I doubt any surgeon would give such advice. On the contrary I feel strongly that any surgeon who would re operate on a patient at 6 weeks for size and replace with an implant not much smaller is unethical, at best, and does not keep the patients best interests at heart. I would also like to mention a few things. I did not pick this patient's implant size. She came in three times to try the implants on and to talk to me where I made myself available every time. The implants used were the ones she picked out. This is not the first time a patient felt that the breasts were too large right after surgery. This has happened hundreds of times and I have always been able to reassure every patient to get them through it. What I offer is very simple. Wait 4 months (not 6) and if you are still not happy I will replace them for free. So far nobody has ever taken me up on it. In fact I have received a few apologies after. When that happens I just smile and say "its part of the job". Putting up with a little grief is always worth it when I can prevent a patient from making a mistake. I get it. This patient doesn't like me. Nothing is going to change that but I always try to do the right thing with every patient by doing what I think is in their best interest. Lastly, being a podiatrist does not give any insight into plastic surgery, on the contrary here it lead to what I believe will be a mistake

This is the first doctor I've ever seen reply on someone's review like this, but i respect him for defending his name none the less. Sorry you didn't like your results. What about the nipple though? no mention of that.
Thank you for sharing your story on RealSelf despite your disappointment. How long did you wait to get your revision? How many cc's were your DD breasts and how many cc's do you have now? Hope you have healed well and are happier now with your revision.
Glad you were able to quickly get this revision, even though the 6-8 weeks probably felt like an eternity to you. Feel free to write a review in the Breast Implant Revision community about your revision since you had a different surgeon for the revision.
