I had been thinking about having rhinoplasty on/off since I was about 15 years old. A few weeks shy of turning 26, I finally got the courage to go through with the procedure. It took a couple years of research to choose a doctor. I tried finding a surgeon in my area, but ultimately decided to travel out of state to Dr. Roger Pielet. I'm so glad that I made the decision. I am currently 3 months post op and really like my results so far.
I plan on creating a website/blog about my experience to serve as a guide for other African Americans considering the procedure, since there are so few stories on the internet.

Wow, sorry for the late response! The best advice I could give is to consult with at least a few doctors and also speak with their former ethnic rhinoplasty patients to get a feel for what to expect. Most of the time when you speak with former patients they are more than happy to send you real before/after pictures of their nose (not like the ones on the website) and talk about their personal experience with the dr. Speaking with a former patient sold me on it.

love the results. I'm Latina and have a wide nose similar to your before pic. Please start a blog with our type on nose cause I feel it's really hard to find a doctor who can do great results

Thanks Marisa! I noticed the same thing during my search a couple of years ago. Most before/after pictures I saw rarely featured people with my nose type. What sold me on doing the surgery was speaking with my doctors patient coordinator who had rhino with him, and a former patient who sent me before/after pictures. He didn't have pictures of either of these two on his website, but their noses were similar to mine and I knew at that point he had the skills to do the job. Sadly though he has passed away :-s

Hey VerVee, Thank you!! I feel like my nose has improved even sense then. I cant believe that was 2 years ago. But no he actually did not. He created a graft using septal cartilage on my bridge.
We'd love it if you'd update us in THIS space as well. How did you go about finding your surgeon and what was recovery like? Thanks so much for any extra info you can provide.
