I'm going to do this review in several posts since I am posting after the fact and have so much to tell. I have been thinking about this for about 20 years, off and on, but finally made the decision to go forward about two months ago. We had a trip to Russia planned in October, so my husband and I went over to Miami to meet with a doctor for a consult in early September. A friend happened to mention that I should check out Dr. Sam Gershenbaum so I called his office while on our way to Miami. The patient coordinator, Eyra Little, answered my email immediately and made every accomodation to get me in front of Dr. Gershenbaum that same day. The first doctor I went to was like a cattle call. We waited almost 3 hours to be seen by the doctor. He was nice, but I didn't like the hectic office. Dr. G was kind enough to wait at his office until we could arrive which was after 5pm. He took his time and answered all of our questions, as well as giving us large portfolios of pictures of past patients. He was so knowledgeable and patient with no ego. Another thing I should note is that he didn't require me to lose weight prior to surgery. I am 5'7" and was 214 prior to surgery. I'm in great health and didn't want to have to crash diet prior to getting my make over. My husband and I knew immediately that he was the doctor for me. Dr. G was very accomodating in working with us and agreeing upon a price and surgery date. We scheduled my procedure for a tummy tuck and lipo for October 27, 2016. Eyra was so wonderful and promptly returned all of my phone calls and answered all of my questions. I never had a problem with any of the paperwork or tests that had to be done. Eyra took care of everything that I was not able to get from my primary care doctor. One call from her and they sent paperwork immediately. Something to note is that I didn't have to purchase anything prior to or after surgery. Everything I needed was provided.
We were told to arrive at the surgery location at 7:30am, which we did. Dr. G and the anesthesiologist arrived around 8:30am and Dr G took about 45 minutes talking to us and marking me for surgery. The anesthesiologist took at least as long going over my medical history and explaining everything to me.
My husband kissed me goodbye and Dr G's nurse, Mark, took me to the operating room. Within minutes I was out. Next thing I knew I was waking up on the flat side. The surgery took about 7 hours, as Dr G does it all himself, and I had a tremendous amount of lipo. They had me dressed in a compression suit and put my pajamas on over it to get me to our car. The ride to our RV (we drove that over to stay for the week) was about 45 minutes and was not pleasant, but I wasn't in substantial pain.
