Plastic Surgeon

Overall rating

I'm not even sure where to begin. Dr. Muñoz was recommended by my bariatric surgeon Dr. Ramos-Kelly who was an amazing absolutely outstanding physician. With his recommendation I was very confident to follow through with my plastic surgery at the hands of Dr. Muñoz. As a person he was very pleasant, professional and attentive to my needs and questions. We agreed on a cost of $3500 and I booked my surgery after I did all the necessary preparation for my surgery right before I was to have my surgery I was shaken down for a cost of $7000. I was already in Mexico in the hospital so I just decided to bite the bullet and do it. I had a circumferential body lift, lipo and fat grafting to my buttocks. When I woke from surgery I felt great, minimum pain or discomfort, after care by the nurses was superb! Under the bandages it looked like my stomach was nice and flat and everything seemed great. As the days passed I noticed that my drains were dark, thick blood and not the normal discharge one would see. I mentioned it to the nurses and they too were concerned about the amount of blood coming out of the drains. When my Dr. came for a check up I mentioned that I was concerned and the nurses shared my concern over the blood discharge. Dr. Ramos assured me that it was perfectly normal and what I was seeing wasn't blood but a substance he used to irrigate the area during surgery. He yelled at the nurses and rudely told them to not scare his patients and express concern over something they know nothing about. After the visit that eased my mind and continue with my recovery. Cecilia Ramos (Dr. Ramos-Kelly's wife) let me know that I was to be discharged and forgot to mention I had to now pay $80 for them to drive me back to the US after I had been told that the $7000 would cover everything! you would hope when they DOUBLED the price last minute. I was told to change into my street clothes and get ready to go home. Before I left i again mentioned to Cecilia I was worried about the drains and when she checked them she ordered a hemoglobin test. Results came back 6.0, this determined that I had internal bleeding. The doctor ordered a blood transfusion and went into emergency surgery. After the revision, everything seemed ok, drains were cleared and I thought I would finally go home. After the ordeal I was now informed that the $7000 I paid wouldn't cover the second surgery and I was asked to pay an additional $2000, I gave them the remaining $1000 I had in cash (which I really didn't want to hand over but the blood transfusions I needed were withheld from me until I handed over the cash) and what I though would be a $3500 surgery resulted in $8000. My family had to come to Mexico and donate blood to offset the price of the blood transfusions. At this point I was completely appalled and hurt over how this whole thing was handled. One of my best friend's which happens to be an attorney flew into Mexico to be by my side and escort me back home. Upon her arrival the way I was treated was night and day, I was given a shower, they brought me toiletries and told me that to save money Dr. Ramos had extended to me his spare bedroom at his home to facilitate my recovery. The request for money continued and completely penny less I handed over my kaiser permanente card and told them to try and bill my insurance provider. I was told that my heart was back to normal and there was no reason I couldn't go home so finally after 8 days I was released. As the days went by and my wounds heal I could already tell that my results were not at all what I was told to expect. Dr. Muñoz said, "you're going to look amazing, your stomach will be so flat and tight you wont have the need to ever do a sit up" I don't know better but If my surgeon tells me this, that is what I'm expecting and hoping for! My stomach now although of course there is improvement its still a disaster and in no shape or form flat. I waited a year+ to post because I wanted to be fair and allow my body to heal before I assumed I was botched. Today I sit with a saggy stomach, terrible scaring, same flat butt as before and a random left love handle where fat was grafted instead of my butt. For months after the surgery I was constantly messaged and called by Cecilia and Muñoz in attempts to collect additional funds until I finally blocked them off social media and decided to look forward and hope the next surgeon I pick is more competent.
