WORTH IT$2,300

Had my rhinoplasty on November 24th with a plastic surgeon whom I've had previous work with- breast augmentation and bodylift. I never asked for any before and after pictures, I completely trusted him.

I've never been happy with my broad, wide nose.

Post op wasn't too bad. I was only given Tylenol and antibiotics. My PS mentioned to me that he couldn't prescribe other pain killers like with my previous surgeries due to the risk of bleeding. Day one was easy. I only had a bit of discoloration beneath my eyes. Wasn't so after. I began swelling up bad from 2nd day until the 4th day. I could hardly open my eyes! Although the pain was nothing compared to my previous surgeries, seeing my face like that was a bit traumatic, even for my mother.

It's been two weeks since surgery day and I'm feeling pretty well. My PS has been taping me (full nose, 24/7) once a week. I'll get to keep it off after 3 weeks. I can't wait! Time has slowed to a crawl! I can tell I'm still swollen, I've been drinking arnica tea to speed up the healing process.

For future reference, you, unfortunately, can't upload photos from a phone or tablet. You have to be on a computer. We're working on this feature, though!

Saw my surgeon yesterday to change my tape. He said it was looking good already and that he'll be taking off the taping this thursday for good! I'm so glad!

He did say I still have some swelling but it's all good. I'm already happy with how it's turning out.

Oh gosh, I had a dream where my nose was breaking off. It would just flop around whenever I moved my head. How terrifying! LOL

did the surgeon also shave a bit off your tip? My surgeon did it and I regret this big time!

no, he didn't. he made the bridge a bit thinner, used an implant for nasal depression, alar reduction and a cullumela strut to lift the tip. It was closed rhino. I like that he didn't mess with the the tip as far as cutting cartilage and tissue.

what is it that you don't like about the result, how long ago was the procedure?
December 13, 2011
An implant? Where? I also had closed rhino
December 13, 2011
Alar reduction and cullumela strut? I don't even know what that means lol. Yes but my friends and family says it doesn't look different, although I can see it clearly- they just stay my nose looks a bit thicker in the front (the tip) I hope this may be due to swelling and not because the tip has been shaved. The procedure was done 3 weeks ago

Oh I'm sorry lol. He used to implants. One on the bridge of my nose, right between my eyes. That was to raise the bridge, so the angle from my side view wouldn't be so sharp, and to gIve an illusion of a longer nose.

The second one (cullumela strut) was placed on the bottom side of the nose. Running from base to tip. That's to lift up the nose, which adds projection to the tip and sometimes is done to make the nostrils not seem as wide. It also avoids the tip of the nose from becoming droopy with time (and takes care of any present droopiness).

Then the alar reduction is just where the surgeon cuts out a bit of your nostrils, where they meet your cheeck and reattaches them to reduce nostril flare. Which also makes the nose seen thinner front view.

Well it's only been 3wks, don't be too concerned! The swelling from the tip of the nose alwAys take much longer to disappear. :)

Is your rhinoplasty basically easily reversable? I also believe that with revision rhinoplasty a person can add cartilage as well isn't it? Maybe I should just give it time or learn to live with it
User Avatar

Yes, they could add cartilage w a revision..
But give it time. Revisions are not done until you're at least 12 months out. Due to the swelling taking so long to subside. There's been cases where ppl continue to see small changes even 2 years out. It just really depends on what the surgeon did and your body.

you can deffinetely see a difference, especially in your front view as well! it's a lot more defined. It's look really good! :)

I know this might sound a bit weird, but does anybody ever wake up with a nose that feels runny, but it's actually stuffy? I always do. And that runny feeling tends to happen throughout the day, and its never there! I used to grab a tissue but now I just tap my nose to check, and sure enough... nada!

I have get to get my surgery (Feb-3)... But i have read that what you are experiencing is temporary. If you have a compute at home go thought the same site you are in now and am sure someone has asked this question before.
Good Luck

User Avatar
February 6, 2012
thank youu. There's days where I'm amazed that it looksdifferent and others where its so swollen it practically seems the same to me.

I was afraid that I would be able to feel the implants since I couldn't even pucker up my lips for about a month without feeling alot of tightness. but I can't feel it at all now unless I bump my nose ever so slightly , thennnn ill tear up lol
