Have Been Unhappy with my 1st Rhinoplasty for 10 Yrs, Finally Ready to Do Something About It - Menlo Park, CA

I had a rhinoplasty about 10 years ago for what I believed to be a too-bulbous tip. I was still a teenager and was overly focused on my nose. My family and boyfriend told me that I didn't need it, but being headstrong, I went to a surgeon in San Francisco who agreed to do the procedure--a "tip-plasty".

Hindsight is 20-20 and I have had to live with the fact that I should never have let anyone touch my nose. I wish that the plastic surgeon had talked me out of the procedure. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Well, for 10 years, I've lived with a nose that I've been unhappy with and looks terrible when I smile and especially in pictures. I was previously very photogenic and now for the past 10 years I HATE taking photos.

I used to have a slight (pretty, exotic) droop to my tip and for whatever reason, the surgeon unnecessarily turned my nose tip up, causing too much nostril show. The tip looks pinched, and the nares have a "pulled taut" look to them. My philtrum also looks elongated (now that the tip is upturned) whereas before it looked normal. Additionally it is crooked and looks hooked when I smile.

I have a consultation scheduled with Dr. Mehta of Menlo Park and I am excited to see what he can do. Judging by his b&a photos and by the feedback here on real self, he seems like the guy for the job.

Good luck and thanks for sharing your story and photos with us. I also look back on my before photos and would give anything to have that nose that was perfect for my face. I understand how you must have felt all these years. It has been 3 years of regret and depression for me. Best of luck. Looking forward to your updates.

Thank you! It's great (bittersweet) to know that others have gone through/are going through the same thing. What we wouldn't give to have our old face back! Sigh. Hopefully others will take heed and *really* seriously considering what they're doing before going under the knife. Praying for a good outcome for us!

Cool virtual plastic surgery app.

I found a cool virtual plastic surgery app and messed around with my photos to see if I could achieve the look I'm going for. I think I did it.

Your nose now is not bad at all! I see what you mean about a small dent but your going to feel great once you book your surgery .. if its something you want to do - do it! screw what other people say or feel .. its your face .. so do what makes you happy :)

Thank you! Do you think that I'm better off not getting the revision? I know that we can be our worst critics but I just want to be careful and guard against wanting to change something that in fact doesn't really need to be changed. Like am I obsessing about something that isn't really a big deal after all? Your honest opinion is appreciated--thx!

My honest opinion is i like the way it is now better than the way you want to redo it! Did you know about non surgical revisions? If there is a part you dont like they can inject a jelly like substance and completely fix your nose .. im being honest though! Like if my nose came out like yours on my surgery .. i would be happy! Hahah

Thx so much for your thoughts! I really appreciate honest feedback. Maybe I should look into the non-invasive rhinop

Sorry, accidentally posted before you finishing my thought. I think I will look into non-invasive treatment before taking the big plunge. Thanks again!

I have to echo xonicole, I like your result! Your nostrils look very symmetrical, not taut and your tip is cute and refined, not pinched. The hollow is barely noticeable, but could definitely be addressed with fillers. Having undergone 2 rhinoplasties myself, I can relate with your regret and dissatisfaction...But, I'd be afraid that you'd be even less happy with a revision. A doctor would target what you call "pinched" and instead make it look wider and more bulky maybe with grafting which imho you would like waaay less than what you have now. Of course, how you feel about yourself is the most important, but you are obviously doubting the revision since you are seeking advice here. My advice is to leave is definitely leave it alone! (ps: this is the first time that I have been compelled to even post here on RS because I normally just read the reviews. However, I really wanted to weigh in:)

Gonna hold off for now

I've decided I'm going to hold off on pursuing a revision for now. From the feedback I've received here and from family, it's not hugely necessary and my current nose is not too bad.
