I am a 35 year old mother of 4. Three years ago I started a journey of losing weight so that I could be more active with my children. My starting weight was 242 at 5'1 and I was considered morbidly obese. Those are tough words to hear at 32. I also stopped smoking at that time as well. I completely changed my way of eating and my activity level. Two years later I am 140 lbs! YAY! Little did i know I was exchanging one serious problem for another. I lost the weight, but I GAINED a massive amount of lose skin. I have went through my regular doctor and he said my only choice was a tummy tuck. On June 1, 2017 I walked into Dr. Dan Shell's office in Memphis Tennessee and he agreed a tummy tuck is my only option and that insurance will not cover it. I battle consistent infections under my "apron" and even in my belly button because it is under a roll too. I get sores, boils and I've even suffered through staph. This procedure is 5200 dollars that I can't pay. Is there help out there? The doctor I have chosen is amazing and really cares. I want this....Ive earned this....i NEED this!! I feel so defeated to have come this far to be told that because of the evil dollar I can't reach my end goal.

I chose Dr shell for a few reasons. 1. Free consult. 2. Close to me. 3. No drains. After prayer I knew he was where I was suppose to go.

Ok....so yesterday at 8:49 am to he exact I found out i was approved for the breast reduction...whoo-hoo! Then I had an emotional meltdown about affording the tummy tuck...i want them done together. Well..I placed my faith where it belongs and let that go...we will finance and deal with it. So I'm making plans and sorting things out and this afternoon around four I received a call from my case manager who is helping kind of being a mediator between insurance and doctors and I tell her HAPPILY that just yesterday I was told I was approved! The Plastic Surgeon Office told me I was!! She got very quiet and said that on her end she is not seeing that. I asked to please clarify and she said that the office has not even submitted my documations yet???? So I call back up to the PS office and I am told that apparently they made a mistake and that I should hear something within 45 days. *Crash* so....once again I am back at waiting. I hope my next post is exciting news. FYI in the future if anyone ever tells you that you are approved ask them for your AUTHORIZATION number and PHONE Reference number...its proof on your end.

Prayers answered! Authorization

This morning I called my insurance company and entered all of my information about who I was and blah, blah..blah...once the lady took all that down I simply asked her had they received my pre-Authorization information and she looked that up and came back and said yes ma'am we have received it and you are APPROVED! Yeeeeeee!!!! Then I asked her the two most important questions of this whole process.. what is my authorization number and what is the call reference number. Having those two very very important numbers are astronomical!! The reason: 1. That authorization number is proof that you gave been approved. It is only assigned to you for the procedure in which you are needing. 2. The call reference number is a number that is assigned to each call that you or they make. Most medical or medical facilities record their calls for training or if they have to go back and REFERENCE a particular call....hence you get the call reference number you have proof that you were told yes...or no. Now that I have approval the next step is for me to schedule the procedures and because the tummy tuck is not covered I have to pay 500 dollars before I can schedule my surgery date; good thing about that though is that the 500 goes toward my total cost. Hope this is helpful.
