I had 38 year old implants. They had hardened from the scar tissue and both were leaking. One had all but disintegrated. They had become very painful. Dr. Eby removed them and did some reconstructive work. I was very impressed with my pre care (information on how to care for myself to prepare for my surgery and recovery; diet, supplements, and do's and don'ts.) I am also very happy with the results. I feel wonderful physically and mentally. I would recommend her to my children, my parents, my friends. I would be comfortable with having any procedure done by her. She is also a warm and caring person which I believe is important.

Hi Alice, so glad you had a good results and good doctor. I would be curious for more details like how long your recovery was, etc. Given the age of the implants, just doing the math I would guess you have to be in your 50s. I'm curious to hear about the procedure because I am 60 and have had implants for about 35 years. Did you have a lot of breast tissue before implants and that is why you had a good result after removal? Did you do anything special before and or after to care for the tissue? I see you mention some reconstructive work. Was that a lift? anyway, if you feel like sharing more of the personal side to your story, I would be interested. Have a wonderful day. JW

Hi jwboobies, I am 62. I had very little breast tissue before and after implants. I think because of that is why I now have more youthful looking breasts. I had a lift. I believe the difficult part of the explant was removing the deformed, hardened scar tissue and vacuuming out all the free silicone caused from the leak. I had the surgery oct. 28 of this year so I am still in recovery. I did not have a lot of pain considering the pain I had before and considering all that was done in surgery. The scars are disappearing and the breasts are looking better than I expected. In about a month I may post after surgery pictures but I do not have any before pictures. All in all I feel very good having them gone. I know some people replace them but I am very happy to go au natural.

I am 64 and my have been in over 35 years; about 20 years ago one ruptured and now the other. I want them removed and go without but I am afraid of looking unnatural. Will follow to see your pics; I am so done with the uncomfortable pain and lopsidedness - can't even fit into a bra right!

Thank you for the additional information. It is very reassuring to hear the success and happy ending stories. it doesn't mean I will have good results but gives me some hope that it could turn out better than expected. I was young and flat flat flat when I first got implants. I had one rupture previously and the implants were removed and I was in terrible pain from the surgery. I've since had two re-implant surgeries because I was told my result word be awful without. I'm now ready to face that reality... I will look for updates and photos if you post them. Thanks!

Hello. I'm 58 and have 30 year old implants. A few months ago the right began hardening just at the top. Visually there is very little difference, and I have no pain. I've read another who had CC for 10 years. I don't mind the slight firmness, but my main concern is of silicone leakage and if I must get them removed or can just live with this. I am healthy and no other issues, so ... considering that I my finances barely cover my yearly expenses, I'm outside the USA, can't get a MRI, and doctors here have no clue ... at this point I'm opting to 'live with it'. And meanwhile I check these pages. Glad to hear you have had a good experience; I may be happier with them removed (if not healthier?) but the cost and travel required seems insurmountable.

Personally, I would be concerned about silicone leakage with implants from 30 years ago. I don't want to frighten you, but that is the reason there was a class action suit against implant
makers those many years ago... They ruptured and leaked and potentially cause health problems. For a while silicone implants were banned in the US and that was after the class action. The new implants were supposed to have undergone stricter testing, but who knows. It sounds like you are in a difficult situation. I will be hoping for the best for you and maybe something in your situation will change and you can find out for sure about leaking silicone in your implants and then go from there.

My implants have been in for 37 years so your information was very helpful... I have pain most all the time with the left one and when I try to sleep at night the pain kicks in big time... I have BCBC and I'm wondering if insurance will cover explantation . I know I need to take care of this asap as the pain I feel is not right... I'm happy for you that you like the results...

I think most insurance companies will cover explanation. you can probably just call to find out what the coverage is or just have a consultation with your PS and they should be able to help you.

Thank you for the info... it's much appreciated ! I'm happy I found this site as I've felt pretty alone trying to figure out what to do about getting my implants taken out.. I know it's " not just in my mind" the pain I have. It's like a slow burn all the time. I tried to tell my regular MD once that it almost feels like a low grade tooth ache in your breast ... You have a most wonderful day ! Tuesday
