3 Weeks, BioCorneum and a Sonicare Toothbrush
WORTH IT$2,000
This process has definitely been a rocky road. At 3 weeks the redness is continuing to decrease but there are hardened areas and internal stitches that are still detectable. As a result, the incision line appears rough and irregular.
Been using BioCorneum and (I know this is going to sound weird) the back of my Sonicare toothbrush turned on, to massage and break down the scar tissue, for about a week.
I don't know what's caused the divets and lines...the suture method?; a running continuous stitch; the fact that somehow 3 sutures pulled through?; possibly affecting the tension throughout the incision; why oh why did I floss my teeth the night I had surgery; or ???
Maybe I was allergic to whatever material was used for the internal sutures and that's what caused all my problems from the beginning.
I don't regret the surgery, and I'm trying to be optimistic, but I have a feeling I'm going to be looking at some scar treatment down the road and that's disappointing.

I remember regretting pigging out 2 hrs after my surgery because i think me chewing loosened a stitch on the side of my nose! Everyone heals different so dont get upset yet!! I've been reading about the dissolvable sutures and some drs say it can take a few weeks to dissolve. What did your dr say? I've been taking lyseine and using the red light i was telling you about. I know that youre vegan so maybe make sure that you're getting enough protein as that helps your body heal. I havent eaten meat since i was 15( I'm not vegan I eat dairy and fish) and I always have to be sure I'm getting enough protein. I also read that a zinc supplement can help heal but i haven't tried that.. Just remember that youre still healing so be careful with the toothbrush! I have a 20x magnification mirror that i am trying to stay away from because i know that i will end up picking and messing with my scar. I think we just have to stay calm and let our body heal itself.
O btw when i did look in my mag mirror i can still see tiny bumps and a little separation around my nose.

The surgery didn't diminish my appetite either. I thought there might be something wrong, because I was feeling so hearty Ha!
I read about zinc and will pick some up.
It sounds like depending on the suture material, some dissolvable stitches do take awhile. There are the teeny tiniest little holes where they poke out but skin
does have a remarkable way of closing and healing so I'm hoping for the best. I'm seeing the Dr a week from today.
Oh yes, staying away from mag mirrors might be a good idea! Thanks for the encouragement.

hi ML,, don't dismay,, plastic surgery is never a "quick" fix. It takes time,, and expect that you will be red,, or bumpy for at least 8-10 weeks. I think the scar looks pretty impressive after that allergic reaction!! What is most noticeable is the youthful balance it has brought to your face,, only "old girls" have long lips!!
It will be fine,, and I love the toothbrush!! That is ultrasonic!!,, good idea!

That's reassuring and thank you for shifting my focus to the positive aspect of having this done ❤️ Another reviewer mentioned that she's still having tingling a month out so I guess the bottom line is, 'normal' has a wide range.
Ha ha! We definitely traded in our old girl long lips for some sassier looking ones! You're beautiful!

hey dear, how is it going today I went to meet some doctor who performs lip lift but really couldnt decide... I am so afraid of the scar otherwise i would do it instantly..Did you speak your doctor about the irregular area?? What did he say?
I see my doctor again on the 22nd and looking forward to his opinion on how it looks.
I was very willing to trade a scar for my looong upper lip as the majority of lip lift scars I've seen on Realself, are pretty inconspicuous.
I know scars can sometimes be a little scary though!
I wish you all the best and hope you find just the right surgeon :)

I agree with you TREMENDOUSLY on a trade off for having a shorter philtrum. Scars are easy to remedy. Long philtrums are not!!!! Xoxo
Btw when i look at the pics it looks well healed <3
It takes around 4 months for internal sutures to melt. Do not worry about what your incision looks like now, it is REALLY early. My surgeon recommends a scar cream called kelo-cote. You can buy it online and it will help. Ask your surgeon if it is ok to use it now. If your scar does not turn out well there are so many treatments to resolve it. Try not to worry. Best to you.
Thanks, Anon. Things do seem to be improving as the days go by. I'll look into Kelocote.

Ha ha. Sounds like my husband. They're so protective of us!! But, I do love the new look with the butterfly.
Those crazy glasses and butterfly are from my Edit Lab app. They look like they're straight from the Witness Protection Plan.
Lol. You are quite the comedian. Hope u r feeling ok, and having fun experimenting with lipstick on ur new lips. I find myself staring at my lips in the rear view mirror. (At a stop light). It's such a welcoming adjustment to my face!! I see that we have more than our lip lifts in common. We arethe same age. 39? Ha ha ha. I'm fighting with Mother Nature as with tooth and nail. It's an ongoing battle. I won't let her win. I'm a tough NYer.
you are winning!!
you look fantastic,,but more than that you are kind and genuine with real heart.,,beauty is nothing on the outside, if what is on the inside is rotten .,,,
your positive vibes are felt on this forum by everyone ,,I'm sure:)

My gosh Ms. T, you are one kind soul, who is the bearer of a huge heart. I'm a lucky lady to "hook" up with you on RS. I guess birds of a feather flock together. I would love it if we were living in the same hood!!! You're a KEEPER!!! Xo's
I just got my weekly newsletter from RS and both u lovely ladies are pictured in it with ur reviews. You are celebrities!!!!
Woo hoo!
You're so cute! Yes 39 and holding...holding...holding!
I so agree ❤️
Aging gracefully is not on my tongue.
Thx Ms. Mary. It sure makes me feel good, especially knowing that other RS ladies do not like my lip lift. Sooooo I will let bad karma go and focus on the positive!!! This platform has given me so much confidence in myself. (Of course with the help of my ps). It's like metamorphosis for me.
I'm still surprised by some of the comments people actually write on these reviews..."I see your scars and your nose is wider, did you want that?" Oh my...
Being critical of someone physically before or after PS is the same thing; ignorant or unkind. This should be a safe forum where we can encourage one another and be encouraged.
You're lovely inside and out Randi, and definitely don't look your age, so just keep fighting the good fight and know you have reason to be confident!
My PS has prints of butterfly's all over his clinic and when you used the word metamorphosis, I think that's how we should feel. I agree and that's why I stuck the butterfly on those glasses!

Hi Mary Lou, my ps has impacted my life greatly, and has given me a new sense of self love and genuine confidence. I will not let anyone take that away from me! I'm very thankful for my doc for her gift of aesthetic artistry, and to g-d for giving me the chance to make my enhancements. This forum is very helpful to many women, and the haters should find something else to vent their feelings out on. We are all in this place for the same read, and that's when I refer to metamorphosis. Rock on!!!!
Isn't it amazing how one person can have such an impact for Good in our lives?
There's a verse in Proverbs that says the tongue has the power of life and death, and we've all experienced how true that is.
It's just as easy to build someone up as it is to tear them down and not only does it make them feel better, but it's beneficial to us as well, in my experience It just feels good to bring a smile or word of kindness to someone who needs that ❤️
We truly have so much to be thankful for.

A simple kind word or gesture goes a long way. I try my best to keep a smile on my face, always!! Kindness is crucial in this world!!! Everyday we must all try to do good deeds!!! It takes me to a whole other level. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. I guess you just can't expect to get what u give out!!! Insecure people like tearing others down. Makes them feel superior.
You have such a great attitude! Yes, kindness is crucial even if it isn't reciprocated :)

Day 13
The incision is still slightly red and there are some uneven areas that I think will probably smooth out over time with massage and scar cream once the reaction is healed. Still have 4 days left of antibiotic treatment
I'm joining the ranks of all you girls who wish just a few more mm's hade been removed, but my chin is a little longish, so any more removed may have made me look funny.
I'm overall really pleased with my results in spite of wishing I had more tooth show.
Today is my birthday, the big 60! and I got my first official photo with a more attractive upper lip;)

Happy 60th Birthday!! And congrats on your first pic with no redness or stitches AND with lipstick on!! What a glamorous looking younger than 60 year young lady!!! Go out and celebrate with ur sexy self.
I think you look perfect. And you are right, it's important to take someone's entire face into account. Determining how much to take is based on many factors, it's not a cookie cutter situation. You certainly don't want to end up with the dreaded bugs bunny look that we have seen here before. You look beautiful.
Thanks for your kind words, Lostbeauty ❤️
Wow wow wow !!! Happy birthday
I wrote an entire paragraph but it didn't post because I put emojis of birthday cake and wine glasses! Lol
So ,, I wrote that I think this took years off your face! A very youthful procedure with such a great affect! The lips look very proportional to your nose,,, we all can't have fabulous tooth show;( ,, ,,60 looks GORGEOUS on u!

You're so sweet, t! Thanks for the cake and wine! Ha!
It's such a great procedure and I plan on being very open about it with people as it seems to be so little known, but really does create a more youthful face for a fairly reasonable cost.
Has anyone noticed any difference in your appearance? I think our results are similar in that the change is subtle.

It was a lot of fun. Two of my three children, my daughter in law, mom and hubby were together. Family is wonderful.
I'm almost a little disappointed that no one's noticed lol, but then I remember that sweet little gal who wrote the review about how people told her she looked like a different person, and how hard that would be.
Enjoy your time off work and blessings on your day ❤️

Thanks Randi, your comments are so kind and encouraging ❤️ I had a great dinner at Sizzler ($5 off birthday coupon ;) with my family. I'm vegan and their salad bar is wonderful
You really don't look ur age, and this procedure helped you even more with the foundation of youth. I noticed what you paid....omg. I would do it in a heartbeat, it's the price of a good purse. He he. Is ur ps that reasonable with all his prices?? Hmmmmm.
I was really surprised at how little he charged for this procedure compared to others I've seen on this site. Especially since he's a very well-known and respected doctor in my area. I had also looked into having him do a blepharoplasty along with the lip lift and the total for both would have been $4900 ( upper lids only)
so I don't know how that compares. I've never seen him for anything before.
Going to wait on that procedure until my vision field is reduced when insurance will cover it, and at the rate my eyelids are drooping, it will be sooner than later.

hey go to Poland!,,can buy 2 purses! hahhahaaa
Ok girlfriend, I'm on it. Let's start with shopping and we can make a stop by Dr. Osuch. Might as well do it all!!! I can always find a part on me that can use a revision. And, of course, 2 new purses sound totally in the realm of things!!
Let me tell you Ms. Mary Lou.... here in Chicago the cost for an upper bleph alone is $3,500 plus other incidentals that encompasses an eye lift. He is way below my ps's prices!! Think of all the $ I could save. Lol. More bang for the buck. Wowsa
Wow...things are much more reasonable here in little Southern Oregon. Not exactly a PS Mecca and the prices reflect that.
I felt so blessed to be able to have this done locally because I have beyond horrible airport anxiety. It truly is a phobia. I so admire the brave ladies who travel to have their surgeries.

You were certainly lucky, in all aspects. Great results, great doc, and close to home. I used to fear flying and I married a man who works for United airlines. Well, that fear quickly went by the wayside. My family lives in NY, and if I want to see them, I have no alternative. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a lover of flying!!! I've flown many many miles, but I put that fear on the back burner. And pray a lot!!! Ha
That's the right attitude! It's a strange thing...it's an actual fear and dislike of the airport and it's procedures. They're huge and I feel as if I'm in some overwhelming processing plant completely devoid of any humanity. I'm old enough to remember when flying was less hurried, less stressful and even enjoyable.
If I had loved ones miles away though I would definitely have to buck up!

Airports can cause anxiety in anyone. The tumult and confusion can be felt immediately. My friend actually had a full blown panic attack with paramedics involved!! The worse part is going through security and being felt up. Yuk. I'm thankful for my husbands seniority, we get TSA approved. I just read your comment below about being a vegan. That's why u look so youthful. I don't eat meat or cheese, but do divulge in eggs. I have egg whites almost every day. I do occasionally eat chicken. I Love Legumes. Yummy. I also read that you had an IV during ur surgery. That, alone, warrants a higher pricing for a surgery here in Chicago. Those numbing shots were a KILLER.
Thank you for sharing about your friend because that happened to me too. I was flying to Connecticut with my daughter and I became so distraught at O'Hare, I lost it after she got us on the plane. So embarrassing.
I love love love being vegan/whole food plant based for the animals, my health, and Gods beautiful Earth! It's changed how I view all life and I'm so grateful ❤️ Mary

Oh Miss Mary, you are heaven sent. You sound very spiritual and into religion It's a winning combo. I detest eating animals or birds. Though occasionally I'm forced into eating a piece of chicken. I love love fruits and vegetables. I feel so energized and healthier eating this way.
I just believe God created us as physical and spiritual beings, and we're His hands and feet on this earth with our 'job' being to love and care for all He created, people, animals and the world He put us on. It's given me purpose through the last few years of 'loss' as well as a deep appreciation of His love for this world. It's changed my life.
I began to realize just how much suffering and cruelty my food choices were supporting, and I just couldn't do it any longer, then I started to learn about the health and environmental benefits of a plant based diet and everything clicked.
All Life is precious!
It's not easy going against culture and tradition but my husband and I have both lost weight, lowered our cholesterol, and his fatty liver disease has disappeared.
What makes me the happiest though is to know that nothing has to die for me to live ❤️ Yippee!

Well, you sure are a true inspiration to us all in the RS world and beyond. And..... the best of all with your decision to eat plant based diet is the health benefits it's given to you and ur hubby. Sometimes we must go against tradition and culture knowing it will give us good health and a good feeling of knowing that you spared a life doing so. G-d bless
Do you mainly shop at Whole Foods and Trader Joe! What is ur choice for protein? Legumes? I'm sure ur cholesterol is perfect. Though, I eat very healthy and workout everyday religiously, and my levels were high. My internist said that it's hereditary and there's not much I can do but bite the bullet and take Lipitor.
Sorry Randi for not getting back to you sooner. Trader Joe's is great for organic but not a lot of vegan options. We don't have a Whole Foods in S Oregon, but a statewide chain has exponentially expanded their 'natural' section and this is where we get most of our groceries. We eat a variety of veggies, beans and tofu for protein. A lb of broccoli actually has more protein than a lb of steak per calorie ;)

I love G BOMBS acronym!!! I'll remember that one!! Interesting fact about the broccoli. And I thought RS was based on plastic surgery! :-) I'm certainly getting educated on G BOMBS. You certainly exemplify the eating habits of a plant based diet. Your skin in the pix even shows one of who nourishes their body with proper nutrients. You could teach a class on plant based diets. I find it very interesting. Xoxo
You look amazing cant believe you are 60 :)so pretty woman and very good results
Thanks gizmokitty ❤️ Are you a cat lover? We have 6 in our home as a result of fostering, rescue etc. I love my kitties.
☺ awww thats great you love cats and rescued many ❤
I really want to get lip lift especially after your results :)) i hope i can gather my courage? Did they do the operation in clinic undet local anesthesia or in hospital with general anesthesia? How was the pain level? Im so scared to be swollen on lips forever cuz happened to me once after lip injection
And yes i have a 1 year old boy called Loki ❤ he is black and white and so cute, dog personality brings back the toys if i throw
Oh I love that! I too had a very beloved boy who would play fetch. They bring us so much love and joy don't they!
I am soooo glad I did the LL in spite of the setback I had, and I hope you are able to make the decision to go forward with things after reading so many positive reviews!
My surgery was done at his clinic which has two(?) operating rooms on site.
I was gowned up, given twilight sedation which is different from gen anesthesia, and I never felt any pain at all. This might not be very common, as most reviews mention being awake and having numbing shots only.
Pain meds we're given through the IV and I didn't need a pain pill for several hours afterwards at home. I took the pain pills at regular intervals, 4 - 6 hours, and can honestly say I never felt pain. 'Discomfort' is as strong a word as I would use.
As far as swelling is concerned, the office recommended I start taking Arnica Montana tablets (I used Boiron brand from health food store), a homeopathic that they said made a great difference in decreased bruising and swelling. I started them ( 5 tiny pellets 3 times a day )1 week prior to surgery and all I can say is that they seemed to work for me because my swelling was very light. I bought the pkg of 3 tubes for around $14, and actually am just finishing up the last tube. Also read tmurphy19' s review if you haven't. She too used Arnica and she had hardly any swelling.
I was told not to ice but I did off and on because my nose, not upper lip, seemed to be swelling and I knew if the cold restricted the blood flow there, it wouldn't do any harm. Some feel that the incision site shouldn't be iced because normal blood flow promotes healing.
We all heal differently, but the end result of this fairly simple surgery makes such a difference in the youthfulness and balance of a face.
I think the most important thing is to make sure you have a board certified plastic surgeon with a good reputation who has done lip lifts before who can provide you with photos of their before and afters.
I'll be cheering you on! I wish I had done this sooner!

Thnk you so muh for the answer ❤ it helped a lot really, i dont know if arnica tablets availale in my country :( they sell only jels called arnica cream something like that, i guess i should check differentplastic surgeants as this procedure seems to be very uncommon here
Oh I didn't realize you're in Turkey. Yes, get a good plastic surgeon! The best of luck to you, gizmokitty!
Thank you so much dear for sharing your story and help us ❤ all the best
You're so welcome, blessings to you ❤️
I will keep u updated if i can ever gather my courage to do it, please dont disappear haha ❤
Always feel free to send me a private message and Realself will notify me by email.
I can tell you have a beautiful heart and spirit whether or not you ever have any surgery!

for any incision to feel hard and be red initially and then settle down. That is the normal process of healing.
Thanks for seeing me through my whining! Truly I won't start seriously worrying until the 6 month mark.
All of you ladies are so supportive and caring ❤️
I had a very very bad result with my lip lift but I believe it had to do with the technique used a muscle hemming technique. I am so thrilled to see that there are so many options on this site for possibilities of revisions.
