Definitely worth it. I've been thinking of doing this forever and wish I'd done it sooner. However, despite being a really simple quick procedure (I did this on my lunch hour) the healing was tedious. For the first few days to a week, you have stents on your nipples which are sewn on with stitches. After that, they have you wear these nipple covers under your bra. These make your breast outline a little weird, and they don't have much airflow, so I found them uncomfortable. Knowing this, I wish I'd done the surgery in winter so I wouldn't have been so hot, and I could wear a sweater to cover up the strange outline. The first week and a half I'd say was very uncomfortable. Throbbing very sensitive nipples. A month later I'm perfectly fine and show no signs of having had a surgery. However, one nipple has inverted again (this can happen) so I may need a revision on one side. If so, I'll be doing it in the winter!

Thank you for sharing your journey.   So you really had this done on your lunch hour??  The first week of recovery does not sound fun at all.  How do they place the stents?

Yep! my lunch hour! It took about 2.5 hours because these things add up - check in, then they numb you (injection - doesn't hurt), then you wait for the anesthetic to kick in (30-40 min), then the surgery (less than an hour), then you get dressed, etc. Anyway, I returned to work the same day. The stents they put on look a lot like clear water bottle caps, but they are open on both sides. So picture a plastic wheel, just the circumference and width of a water bottle cap. These are sewn on with stitches through your nipple. This probably sounds bad, but honestly during those first few days the discomfort is so generalized you're not thinking about the logistics of it. I had my surgery on a Thursday and couldn't work in a follow up to have them removed until the following Tuesday, so I'm not entirely sure how long these stents stay on normally. While these are on, you wear a medical bra and have square pads over the stents to absorb any blood/fluids. It's not pretty. And there's no way you're going out and looking normal during this time. Clear your social calendar. After they take the stents out, you wear these cups under your bra (Medela SoftShells Breast Shells For Sore Nipples) and you can go out and look normal assuming you wearing looser/thicker clothing, because again, your breast shape appears a bit off. I'd say healing time is a solid month to get back to 100% normal.

I had really badly inverted nipples and had them repaired with my BA 2 years ago at age 55. I wish I had done it years ago! The left nipple went back in and I needed 2 more surgeries with the last one having a piercing put in. After 8 months I had to remove the piercing for a mammogram and couldn't get it back in but the nipple has stayed out!! Very happy with the result.
