6 weeks post op: I am able to drive and turn head side to side more easily. All incisions are healed. Burning in neck is gone. Still numb on sides of my face and all over ears. Still feels weird putting make up on those areas of my face. My eyes have healed perfectly without any problems. At 4 weeks I was able to open my mouth wide enough to stop using baby toothbrush! I am healing well and beginning to forget I ever had jowls. That's all I wanted.

The incisions in front of my ear and tragus are almost invisible. The ones around my temples are still dark and hair is beginning to grow through them which will make them undetectable over time.

Incisions are healing amazingly! You have beautiful thick hair to cover the almost invisible scars. Thank you for the "baby toothbrush" tip. My surgery is scheduled for February in NYC with Dr. Rosenberg. Feel very calm at this point. I,too, am 58 and noticed a change after age 50. Jowls - I miss a sharp jawline. When did you stop wearing the neck collar to limit movement? Also - did the Doctor mention shortening your earlobes? (They lengthen with age - "telltale" aging feature.) My consult is in January so I will ask about that. Just curious.

Hey anxious, glad do see your doing well. Your right about the makeup it does feel weird I wonder how long that feeling is supposed to last? Anyway thanks for the update. Continued improvement to you.

do you mind me asking....for 30 k, did you have other procedures done at the same time? or is that what Dr. Baker charges for a standard facelift?

Hard to believe it was 2 weeks ago I was traveling to hotel in Manhattan day before my surgery. I was so nervous and now I wish I had surgery years ago when I no longer liked looking in the mirror.

Hi Brooke, Thank you. He has been in practice a long time as well as a professor of surgery and teaches other surgeons. Doctor selection is so important.

Wow, you're neck and jawline look awesome! What is the swelling and numbness like at this point?

Hi Winky, I don't have swelling, just numbness. Thank you, I don't look 15 years younger, but just a fresher version of myself which is what I wanted. I love make up and can tell you that make up alone takes years off of a woman's appearance.

You look great! I can't wait to see current photos. I had my facelift on September 15. So far I'm still on the fence about the outcome. I still have swelling on the left side of my face. I hope this resolves itself soon. I still can't bring myself to post photos. I think everyone that has added photos are courageous and amazing. I will be the cowardly lion for awhile longer. Hopefully I too will look as great as the rest of you.

Hi Martina, I had my surgery the same day as you. Swelling seems to be very common with everyone. I don't have swelling but my ears are numb as well as the sides of my face. The most important post op instruction Dr B stressed is wearing a soft white cervical collar around my neck all day for at least 2 weeks. He said that you can very easily undo the surgery done during a neck lift by not keeping the neck still for a few weeks. That really shocked me so I am concerned that could still happen. I am a private person as well but feel that this website will help people make an informed decision regarding plastic surgery. I have seen to many women disfigured by surgeons who are simply not experienced at all. I had to feel "safe" with the doctor I was going to allow to cut my face and after much consideration I knew I would be in good hands with Dr Baker. Maybe you should get a cervical collar too. I think it also helps with neck and face swelling.

Thank you for that bit of advice. It makes sense. Do you know where I can purchase one at a reasonable price?

Martina, I think you can get one at CVS, Walgreens, Walmart in store or on line. Hope you are doing better!

Day 17: All of a sudden I can feel burning and pulling in all of my incisions. My neck feels like its on fire. Must be the nerves regenerating! Time for Ibuprofen. It's over 2 weeks so I can take some. I hope this resolves sooner than later.

Thank you anxious I will check out those places. I hope that your burning and pulling resolves itself soon. I understand about wanting it sooner than later as I feel that way about my swelling. I think we will come along just fine it's just all the darn waiting! Positive thoughts coming your way take care and let me know about your continued recovery and of course continued beautification.

It was bad that day when it first started, I think the nerves just woke up! Little sensations just come and go now, this is quite a learning experience, isn't it!

It sure is! I'm still unsure not real happy at this point my cheeks are just to fat I hope it resolves soon I'm actually kind of scared. I hope it doesn't stay this way can only wear sunglasses until right before sun goes down. I can say I'm glad you're doing well if not me then at least someone else who is also sharing the experience.

Martina, from what I understand fat does dissolve over time. You also have swelling from the facelift and our cheeks are also raised during the facelift. I'm sure once most of it dissipates it will look really pretty. You are only 3 weeks post op. Much to soon to worry.

Anxious, thanks I sure hope so the waiting is torture! Oddly enough my ear ( just one) also looks as if detached. Is this a common occurrence? Does it come from the swelling deflation? Just curious.

Martina, does your ear look like it needs to be restitched like mine? Also, does your other ear still have a black stitch at the very bottom of the earlobe?
M

Anxious, my left ear looks like it needs to be stitched at the bottom as if my ear is detached, the other one looks fine so far just trying my hardest to live through this waiting. To see final result I made the mistake of having my phone on the desk at school apparently I accidentally took a selfie when trying to put it away. I saw the picture and almost ran out of class. I must of pressed the camera button when I picked it up. I feel bad enough without taking horrible pictures of myself. I do it at home so that I can see the progression of recovery. When I say that was the worst picture I've ever seen that's putting it mildly. Wow now I see what all my classmates see. It was beyond upsetting! Sorry just venting thanks for lending an ear (no pun intended).

Hi Martina, I have not been on this site in several days. Have you been back to your doctor yet? I have seen many celebrities on TV who had their faces overfilled with fat because most of it reabsorbs over time from what I understand. Don't give up! I wonder if you purposely lose weight in this situation if the fat in your face becomes less. Give it a try! It can't hurt. My lower earlobe does look like it needs to be the restitched. I just keep applying bacitracin but it has not helped and I can't see my doctor for 2 weeks. Keep me posted.

October 15, 2014
Hey anxious, I will be seeing my ps on Friday. I will address the issues that I have. I never thought of the weight loss thing as you said it couldn't hurt. My left lobe still looks the same as well so of course I will be asking him about that. Yes a lot of the fat has reabsorbed and for that I am grateful I still look lopsided so I will see what he can do about that I went from pumpkin to a rotten pumpkin ( one side deflated ) if the other side deflates I will be happy. You keep me posted as well we will find resolution one way or another.

Hi Marathon, there are a lot of weird sensations for sure, but the ears are definitely the strangest part. They feel like rubber and like they don't belong to your face, and the sides of my face in front of my ears feel like rubber to. I am so very careful when putting make up on that part of my skin, it feels so odd.

That's normal... it will pass, but the ears do take the longest. Even at 6 months post my ears still feel a little "weird" and sensitive though no longer numb. BTW you are looking great -- lovely jawline!

Thank you AZ! I'm glad you are as well! You look amazing. It doesn't solve all of women's cosmetic concerns but after looking at my preop photos it was shocking to me how awful my neck really was. So aging and I hope I will be able to keep maintaining it over the coming years. It really makes a difference in a woman's appearance!
