20 Years Old, Restylane for Tear Trough Deformity BEST DECISION EVER!

ORIGINAL POST

Hi all, I was born with deep tear troughs...

WORTH IT$1,200
Hi all,

I was born with deep tear troughs (hereditary on my mom's side). People have been asking me if I'm tired my entire life, and I've always been really self conscious about it. Finally I've decided to do something about it. I think the "tired" look is a result of the hollowness under my eyes creating a shadow, since I don't actually have any "eye bags" persay. I would just–more than anything– like to be able to go out during the day without concealer to correct the undereye darkness. I consulted several doctors online and have been researching the process for about a year, and I've decided to go ahead with the procedure.

Hope to finally look well rested!

Hi maple96. I understand your concern, especially since you are so young. Have you consulted in person with the doctor who will be injecting?? Did he say whether he will place the restylane deep, under the muscle?? The doctor who did mine 3 years ago put it just under the skin and it looked ok for about a year but then it "fell" lower onto top of cheekbone and I've had such problems with it. Ask lots of questions and if possible have someone go with you to help you remember what the docs answers are. It's been my experience that they will ALL tell you it'll be great and they do this all the time and there is little chance for bad results... but when there are bad results, they won't admit it and will even tell you that it looks good!! I'm not trying to scare or discourage you, just want you to have the best results possible!! We look forward to your review after injections!! Just think positive but be cautious at the same time :-)

I had mine done 2 weeks ago and will not be repeating this procedure. I experienced severe swelling to the point I could not leave the house for says. Still, I was hopeful. The swelling and bruising are gone but I have a lot of lumpiness under both eyes and it does show. I have called the office and was told to give it 3 full weeks. Regardless, for what I paid and the amount of discomfort I endured I will not have this done again. I did have this done by someone whose main practice is injections and was told he is "the best". I see no improvement and hate the lumpiness left. I hope you have better luck.

Have you asked them to dissolve it?? They can at any time I think. Do you think the filler was placed too close to the surface of the skin?? I'm so sorry you aren't happy with results. It takes forever for this stuff to dissolve on its own :-(

Ddcats,
I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you! If you don't mind me asking, were you given/ did you follow pre op advice about what to and what not to eat and/ or take?

Thanks!

Hi maple! Excited for you and wish you the best for your procedure!

Keep us posted on how you're doing and be sure to post your "after" photos when you're ready!

Question for you: What made you decide to go with Restylane versus another filler?

July 3, 2015
Hi, thanks for the well wishes! I guess I researched a lot on this site about what filler was most appropriate for the under eye area. It seemed to me that boletero wasn't the right choice for the tear troughs because it's very dense and can be tough for the doctor to mold to the right shape once it's injected....

I've also been told that restylane can last up to 2 years in the tear trough, so in terms of durability it seems to be the best choice.

I'll keep updating the post in the next week :)

Goodluck! i am considering this procedure myself. My eyes are a little less hollow then yours however I do have tremendous dark hereidty circles. I am hoping the resy will help with that. I am on the fence b/c of the negative reviews but just want to feel good about myself instead of being asked "wow you look so exhausted" I will follow your story please post photos when your done :)) all the best!

Best Decision I've Ever Made!!

I wanted to share how happy I am with the whole process and especially the results!! Dr. Yang was very skilled and made me feel totally comfortable, especially since it's my first cosmetic procedure! The office staff was super welcoming and helpful as well. I had .75 CCs under each eye (total 1.5), and I couldn't be happier with how I look!

Dr. Yang is seriously an artist with his work--- he took his time (over 2 hours with the consultation) to shape the filler into the places my face needed it! I will definitely be returning :)

There was some moderate swelling for the first 36 hours, but by 2 days later there was only slight bruising and I looked okay enough to go out.
I couldn't be happier-- for the first time I feel like I don't have to go out with a ton of makeup just to leave the house! I'll definitely be continuing with this procedure in the future!

I'm happy to hear you are so happy with your tear troughs filled in - I am too! I had a few rounds of juvederm in my deep tear troughs over 5 years ago and they have stayed permanently filled in. I still have to wear concealer daily as the dark coloring has not gone away under my eyes, but the no longer deep troughs look completely normal with a good layer of concealer - if you're curious try jane iredale circle delete, or bobbi browns concealer & corrector. So happy for you!
July 16, 2015
Thank you so much! I got the Bobbi brown one today and it completely erased everything!

how many syringes did he use?
July 14, 2015
He used 1.5, but now that the swelling has completely gone down I may go in for another .5 or so when I go for the follow up in a week, just because I think it could still use a little volume. But my eyes were really hollow--- I don't think most people have to use as much
July 14, 2015
I should say I'm very happy with the improvement from the profile view of my face, but I am probably going to talk to him about adding a little more directly below my eye
July 15, 2015
i actually had bad hollows probably the same as yours and my injector used 3 syringes of restylane........ i think thats too much. i would have been happy with 2, one full on each eye.
July 16, 2015
I also have very deep tear troughs all my life. I had a belotero injection but got only minimal results, so congrats on your excellent results--you look fantastic!

you look fantastic and thank you for posting this information about yourself. my daughter has deep tear troughs and it wasn't until I read your post that I realized the name of the issue. She is only 13 so I don't think this is an option for her yet but something we can definitely look into as she grows older. thank you again for sharing, you are beautiful and brave

Hi maple96,
How are doing, I have the same problem and would like to get something done to my dark circles. Can you tell me, is the procedure a permanent fix for the dark circles. You look fantastic and you look so rested and happy. God bless you . Hugs Andrea 54
July 14, 2015
Hi Andrea!
Unfortunately the fillers aren't a permanent solution....basically my doctor told me that to maintain 100% of the original volume I will have to come get a touch up every year to year and a half..
That said, the amount injected in a touch up (according to the doc) is usually 1/4 to 1/2 of what was originally injected. He says that left unretouched it would most likely take over 5 years to lose most of the volume, but that likely it may never return to the initial level of hollowness!

The other option he gave me (which he says he does not reccomend) would be a fat transfer, which is a permanent solution. He said the problem with this, though, is that it's less precise, meaning not all of the fat that in injects in the area will take. This makes it hard to tell how much to inject in the first place, and harder to predict the results.
Thanks for the kind words!

Maple96 I forgot to ask what did your doctor use for fillers under your eyes? Was it Restylane? Hugs Andrea 54
