WORTH IT
I had open septo-rhinoplasty with Mr Tahery on 28th May and the decision to have the surgery is one of the best I've ever made. He has changed my life.

I've wanted rhinoplasty for at least ten years so picking a surgeon wasn't a decision I made lightly. I'd heard a few names in the industry that were well regarded so thought I had a pretty good idea of who I wanted to booked with, but after a rubbish consultation with one such name felt really thrown. I saw the reviews for Mr Tahery on Real Self and went ahead and booked a consultation.

Within 2 minutes of meeting him I knew he was the right surgeon for me. He has a very calm, unassuming manner and is extremely attentive so I felt like he truly understood what I wanted.
He really took his time with my appointment and was happy to answer any questions I had, no matter how ridiculous they must have seemed to him.
I had several issues with my old nose and he listened to each one and then told me what he could do to either fix or help them. He was incredibly honest about what he could and couldn't achieve for me from the get go and I really appreciated that. His upfront honesty has helped manage my expectations right from the start and all throughout recovery and I'm so thankful that he isn't the type of surgeon that would promise you the earth knowing full well he can't deliver it.
My consultation felt very personal to me rather than a generic sales pitch and I left absolutely certain that he had not only understood my needs but could also deliver results. There was absolutely no pressure to make a booking or go ahead with the operation although I felt so certain I'd found 'my' surgeon that I wanted to book from the car on the way home.

On the day of the operation I was visited by Mr Tahery and we went over what we had agreed he was going to do (I had open rhino-septoplasty with an alar reduction and cartilage grafts). This also gave me the chance to reiterate what I wanted to change about my nose. The day of the operation can be quite nerve wracking but Mr Tahery is so calm and laid back that it really puts your mind at ease and makes you wonder what all the fuss is about!

I was discharged from hospital around 7pm the same day having had the op at about 12:30. I had almost no bruising except for a tiny bit of yellow under each eye and very little swelling- Mr Tahery must be extremely gentle during surgery. I was promised a cocktail of medication by the anaesthetist (and he certainly delivered) so was high as a kite when I came round but when the meds wore off I wasn't in any pain at all. I kept waiting for the bruising to set in but it never did!

The entire process was virtually pain free; the post op feeling is uncomfortable rather than painful and more comparable to having a really bad cold. I'd heard that bruising and a sore throat were givens with rhinoplasty but I didn't experience either.
There were times during my recovery when I wondered whether I'd had anything done at all because I felt so well! The worst thing about the recovery for me was the 'dissolvable' packing which took an absolute age to dissolve and was eventually helped out of my nostrils by my tweezers. When the packing finally came out around POD 4/5 it was such a relief and I was able to breathe through my nose again.

At my cast removal I was handed a mirror and immediately burst into tears of joy at my new nose. I couldn't believe I was able to look in the mirror and actually like my nose because I'd never had that feeling before. It was such a powerful feeling that I'll never forget how I felt that day.

I'm now 7.5 weeks post op and so incredibly happy with the way my nose has turned out and how it's healing. My scar (picture posted) is healing so quickly and so cleanly that today at POD 54 it has virtually gone and is invisible unless you are stood directly underneath me. I'm genuinely amazed at how well it's healing.
The swelling does fluctuate every day but seems very minimal compared to others I've seen. I've had no pain or discernible problems with my nose at all.

Honestly, rhinoplasty isn't an easy ride emotionally and there are days when you don't like your nose as much as you did the previous day, or the week before and you can't expect to love it all of the time. However, I've found that creating before and after pictures really helps put things into perspective.

What I love most about my nose now is that it's the nose I always pictured myself having. I feel like Mr Tahery really took the time to analyse my face and give me a nose that would suit and compliment it. I can truly say I've got a bespoke nose!

My only regret about this whole thing honestly is that I didn't do this years ago.

Throughout the whole process Mr Tahery has been so impressive. He clearly actually cares about his patients and his job. At my post op checkup he asked me whether I'd suffered any bruising and seemed genuinely delighted when I told him I hadn't. I can't fault a single thing about my experience with Mr Tahery and would (and have) recommend him to anyone looking for rhinoplasty.

Fantastic Hun your nose looks amazing!! You're stunning anyway but you're right, your nose suits your face so much. Gorgeous. I had an open septorhinoplasty with Mr Tahery last Saturday and I'm about to set off to get my cast removed - can't wait it's been soooo itchy these last 2 days it's driving me mad!! I hope mine looks as good as yours [RS bleep]

Thank you so much! That's so nice of you to say! The cast is horrible isn't it, so so itchy! I was told that tapping the cast in the places where it itched was supposed to help but it definitely didn't help me! I couldn't wait to get it off! I bet you can't wait to see your results! It's so exciting sitting in the waiting room and being called in and then the best feeling ever when you see your results! I bet you'll love yours! [RS bleep]

So very happy for you! May I ask a question: are all your internal stitches completely dissolved now? And if so, around what time would you say it happened? Thanks!

Thank you! I still have some internal stitches although I can only see them in one nostril and can't feel them at all. It's really high up where the nose starts to narrow (not a clue what that's called!!). I've been using saline spray more or less daily which has been helping keep my nostrils clear. Sorry that's not very helpful!

That is very helpful, thanks! I think I have them in the same place as you, and I can't wait for them to go away, they make me sneeze a lot if I don't use saline spray enough :D

They make me sneeze too- I love having a poke about up there (probably shouldn't admit that!) and can see the end of one of them up my right nostril but if I catch it it brings on the sneezes! Sneezing through the mouth is so weird!

Your new nose is beautiful and he has crafted it to suit your face. One thing I like about this surgeon is that he can create so many variations, which are always perfect for the patient's face. Some surgeons only seem to have one "off the shelf" type of nosejob.
I had surgery with him 4 weeks ago and am super happy!

Thank you so much! I completely agree, each nose he does is specific to that person. There's a surgeon who's very popular round here who does do nice noses but they all look the exact same and many of them don't look quite right on the faces they're on. I feel like you can spot his noses a mile off and that's not what I'd want for my face!
So so glad you're happy with your results, it's such a good feeling isn't it!
