My animosity towards my nose has reached an all...

My animosity towards my nose has reached an all time high. Stupid thing ruined all my Christmas photos and that was the final straw! I've always known it was large and slightly odd. Honestly, it's helped me develop thick skin, build character...or whatever. I'm over it. I'm ready to take advantage of all these amazing technological and surgical advancements. I saw Dr. Patrick Byrne with Johns Hopkins for a consultation and was immediately impressed with his skill set and expertise. He was thorough in explaining procedural details and answered all of my questions with conversational ease. So BOOM! My surgery is scheduled for February 6, 2017.

Freaking Out!

I've gone back and fourth with this decision too many times to count these last two weeks. I'm having a difficult time finding extensive information on Dr. Byrne. I've seen maybe 10 before and afters and 3 written reviews. But this guy is an ENT/Rhinoplasty/Septoplasty specialist with Johns Hopkins! Does anyone have any reviews on him?? Also wondering if his quote is completely fair.
Breakdown:
Medical: 2hrs Septoplasty
-Repair of nasal valves collapse
-Endoscopic turbinate reduction
-Septal or ear cartilage grafting
-Cosmetic: 1hr Complete Rhinoplasty
Cost: $11,600 WITH insurance!
I really appreciate any help you can offer!!!

It does seem a bit high. Have you considered any other surgeons? Does he specialise in rhinoplasties?

I've gone to 2 other consultations. Both were around $9500. One surgeon wanted to cut the area in my upper lip which was alarming and the other had a few questionable reviews.
Dr. Byrne does specialize in rhinoplasty and is also an ear, nose, threat specialist. Just wish I could gather more information from real people he's dealt with.

Would you mind giving the names of the other surgeons you consulted with and why you didn't choose them? I'm am looking to get a rhinoplasty in the Baltimore-DC area and my nose is really similar to yours. Best of luck! Can't wait to see your results.

I went to Theda Kontis and Randolph Capone before I chose Dr. Byrne. I didn't agree with Dr. Kontis procedural concepts as they are quite outdated. Dr. Capone was all about the cosmetic portion. I told him I had breathing issues and he didn't even do an endoscopy to verify that I had a deviated septum and collapsed nasal valves.
So I met with Dr. Bryne again today and he had a ton of before and afters to show me (which we ALL GORGEOUS) Johns Hopkins just didn't post a whole lot on their website. I feel so much better about my decision to go with him. I'll be sure to keep you updated!

That's awesome! I hadn't heard of Dr. Byrne before reading your post, but now I'm definitely going to look into him. I do think your quote is a little high for a primary -- I was quoted $9700 by Dr. Naderi in Chevy Chase, MD for a septoplasty and rhinoplasty. However, he told me that my nose would probably look wider from the front after the rhinoplasty and brushed off my concerns about scar tissue so I'm still in the market for another surgeon.

I consulted Dr. Byrne for a revision rhinoplasty but I didn't have surgery with him. I just didn't feel that he has the expertise with revision. I agree your fees are high for a primary. Good luck in your procedure.

I am scheduled for rhinoplasty February 8th. I change my mind everyday on whether I should do this, but it's scheduled, so I am going to do it. I'm very nervous!

Girl! We're almost there! I still have my doubts, but as the date approaches I cant help but get a little excited. Well, it's actually an odd combination of anxiousness and excitement but I just put down my deposit so no more indecisiveness :) This community is so awesome though, makes me feel like I'm not going through it alone.

Try to find a doctor with as many credible good reviews as Dr. Ion. All the best!

Whew! Glad I had a follow up appointment!

So, with all my back and fourth indecisiveness, I decided to meet with my surgeon again. This time, I prepared an extensive list of questions, we went through some digital imaging, and went over his rhinoplasty history with before and after photos. Digital imaging really is a fantastic communication tool. It really helped us discuss in full detail both of our expectations and get on the same page. He even chatted with my Mom on FaceTime which I thought was pretty awesome. It also put my mind at ease that he will not have to use packing or splints. He told me that method is outdated and unnecessary. Thank God. So, now that I'm about 2 weeks out, preparation begins. Here's my supply list so far...
-Arnica tablets
-Arnica gel
-Vitamin C
-Bromelain
-Biotene mouth spray
-Pill container
-Round neck pillow
-Dry Shampoo
-Face Wipes
-Q Tips
-Hydrogen Peroxide
-My Mom flying 1,000 miles to take care of me!
If any of you wonderful RealSelfers can suggest anything that helped you through, I'd really appreciate it! ??
