Unsatisfactory result with return of jowls within months

ORIGINAL POST

Lower Facelift Disappointment

bravern1
I cannot recommend Dr Rand for facelift surgery. I had an unsatisfactory result with return of jowls within months of a lower facelift and necklift, in addition to poor incision placement. I cannot wear my hair up without people noticing the scars. Bringing these to concerns to the doctor only resulted more costs to me in the form of injections to temporarily lift the jowl, and dismissal of my concerns. I gave two stars, but would rather give 1.5 starts, since my neck definitely looks better, and I did not get an infection.
I initially had gone in for my jowls, but am seeking another surgeon to aid in my future revision of jowls AND scars.
I did get Dr. Rand's name from Realself, so I wanted to place my review here.

That is an excellent question. I gave too much emphasis on Realself reviews. I would strongly encourage you to join independent group for people who have gone through this surgery. I also would request to see post surgery results of 1 year, and ask them to explicityly outline the scar area, and be very specific about your expectations and if you are not satisfied. "Better" than before was not worth the very large cost that this surgeon charged. Also, if you meet with a past client in person and they share their results, that would be most beneficial. I personally would meet with anyone in the Seattle/Bellevue area to be a resource and one can make their own decision. Also, check their Google and Yelp reviews online and be sure to go to the absolute bottom where the lesser starred review are placed.

Hi,
Did you find someone to fix your scars?

I am STILL in process after a full two years. I have had 3 rounds of cortisone, one session of laser, with another scheduled next month. This is with a cosmetic dermatologist, not Dr. Rand. Of course this has been very upsetting, and costly to me. I still am unable to wear my hair up as I used to. Why I wasn't offered cortisone within the first year baffles me. Sounds like in line with the facelift…I was baffled why I would need filler at 7 months post op due to a droopy (below jawline) jowl.

At some point I had to stop looking back "hoping" Dr Rand would do the right thing, and take care of myself. I feel he should reimburse me for my scar and laser treatments. After leaving there so broken about my procedure results, I could not trust that he would be able to address the scars.

Anyone please feel free to reach out to me. I will gladly meet with you in person and show you my pics, scars, and emails where he tells me to “embrace my inner beauty”. You buy me coffee.

He told you to "embrace your inner beauty" when you went to him with an issue?? The snark from these guys is disgusting. Tens of thousands of $$ to be told that from a plastic surgeon off all people! My doctor removed several inches of my hair, i look ridiculous and he acted like it was all normal. (It's not) When I told him that I had to save up for this face lift he told me "then you can save up for a hair transplant" he also said at my last visit "be careful..those hair restoration doctors don't always deliver what they promise" You should post a picture of your scars if they are bad. It might help someone else down the road.

I went back to the email....it says "please try to embrace how nice you look regardless" in reference to what he says are "small jowls". So I am correcting that wording now. In my mind that is how I took it....he minimized my distress and wrote "step back and look at the bigger picture" . The look he is referring to was AFTER I paid his office for two rounds of Restalyne Lyft with his assistant, Cami. One round at 7 months, and another around 9 months. Disheartened, at the 1 year mark I sought out cosmetic dermatologist and laid out over thousands more in injectables to raise them. I can only go so far without looking heavy on the bottom of my face.
I will send you a picture of my ear scars.

Hi! I read on another post that you were going to consult with Dr. Thorne? Just wondering if you ever did and how it went? I have followed Gia’s post…. I am also living with chronic pain and poor scarring. Hoping you found someone to help you.

Hello did you find anyone to help you with your scars and retracted tragus? I’m in the same boat as you are. Both my tragi are pulled out it’s as if the whole world can see down my ear canal. My surgery was 2.5 years ago. I’ve been researching doctors who can correct tragus scars and pixie ears. I’m sadden, and can no longer wear my hair up anymore. Did you meet with Dr. Thorne yet? I’m just looking for some hope.

My scars have been injected three times, lasered twice. Tragus intact as he cut in front of the ear. I don't have pixie, but poorly placed incisions, and a bit sloppy skin in front of lobe. No I have not had surgery and I do not know of a Dr Thorne....??? I do hope you find someone. Don't look for referrals on Realself. Find independent groups, and meet with people in person.
