1633 grafts placed to lower my hairline

Here is my timeline of my FUE hair transplant I had with Dr. Diep on 3/29/18. I had 1633 grafts placed to lower my hairline and fill in some recession on my temples. I also did the Acell treatment. The day of surgery went smooth, I came in at 730am and the doctor was currently with another patient so I decided what I was going to have for lunch after that I went to the operation room changed into my surgical scrubs and had my head shaved. The doctor then came in and brought me into his office. We discussed the hairline I wanted and I wasn't able to go as low as I wanted since my forehead creases quite high but the design looks good I think. I also opted for the medium tight hairline design. I think the whole procedure lasted about 7 hours. The meds kept me asleep for most of the surgery but I did hear the doctor commenting that the hairline is looking nice and directing the techs implanting the grafts which was comforting. I was awake at the end of the implantating phase but I was surprised to find out that FUE is not painful at all. The biggest inconvience was the bleeding while I sleeping on the night of the surgery.

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience, may I ask you how much you paid? Thanks.

Hes expensive and not worth it. He ruined my donor area with just this small procedure. I hope it turns out good but I wont be doing anymore transplants.

Why don’t you think he’s worth it? Doesn’t he have the best results online? Like not leave guys with big wide foreheads like these turkey docs do? I’m confused.

He is good at designing hairlines, I'm just worried about the donor area. I've talked to some other doctors and they said it looks excessively scarred because he used a 1 mm punch to extract all the hair. It's just taking a longer time to heal then most peoples FUE surgeries I've seen.
The reason we pay extra for FUE is so that the scar goes unnoticeable but with a punch that big I might have to wear my hair longer.

Yeah I've noticed he prices small cases alot for for mine anyway. But his work is good! I was really worried about the donor but at a 3 guard its really not too noticable unless your'e looking down. Plus I'm white so it makes it even more visible.

What was the price?

How much was the price of the procedure?

Yes in the US its usually expensive. Need two procedures to complete the density too. But its good enough for now. I thought about going overseas but I didn't want to risk cheaping out on something I have to live with for life.

Am in the uk but when am ready, I’ll be heading to the USA , am not taking any chances going to turkey. You get what you pay for. I must admit though, prices are way to steep with Dr. Diep. But as a black man, am not taking chances, Dr. Diep seems to be the best for my type of hair. After all you would have to live with results permanently

so after second procedure how much will you have in it? really good Dr. in the Dominican 2 dollar per graft. check her out

If I were to go for another procedure to perfect it, Diep estimated about 800-1000 grafts for density. Id probably go with a different doctor for that though.

The donor was a big concern for me and I'm worried of it looking patchy. I thought I would've been able to have an .8mm punch but the doctor insisted on using .9mm to 1mm for healthy grafts. So here is what it looks like.
It's unfortunate because I have a really dense donor and I feel like 1 mm could've ruined a lot of the surrounding hair. I really hope it covers up good in the coming weeks because I'm going to have to wear a beanie to work. I take finasteride as well so hopefully I don't experience any shock loss.

A 1 mm punch is probably a good idea. Smaller punches make (very slightly) smaller scars, although .2mm isn’t enough of a difference to be noticeable in 6-8 months; and the smaller punch can cause a lot of transections in some people. Looking good!

I'm happy with how much more proportional my hairline is, I just feel like more care could've been used in the extraction. I have fine hair so I thought he could've used the smallest punch. Hopefully there was reasoning for it, be it healthy grafts like he said or multi-hair grafts and not just to make the procedure go by quick because I paid top dollar. A lot of my donor is scarred up for this small procedure because of this.

The donor has been hurting as a result and it feels like a burning sensation. I've been applying lidocaine burn gel with aloe, and vitamin e and it has helped some. Can't wait to have longer hair in the back. I hate wearing hats!
