I've wanted a rhinoplasty since I graduated high school. But as life goes, so did my money. Being a college student beginning her career is pretty tough but I want to get my nose reshaped badly. I think that I would feel more confident and in turn I will exude confidence in my day to day interactions in my career.

Nonetheless, I am afraid. Not only of possible repercussions. Something can go wrong during surgery or my breathing can be affected? I've read some reviews of individuals who stated their breathing is not the same.

Also, I am cautious about people's perception of me. I don't want my family and friends to think I'm "booji" or shallow. Any advice will do.

Do what u feel is going to make u feel good! Do it for yourself. U are going to look great! U are already beautiful, and this will only improve u

I agree with previous comment, you are beautiful and I think a different nose wiill just set things a bit more in balance .. I have a similar nose to yours , I've been told all my life I'm pretty but it's nothing to do with other people. I just can see my face will improve and will be more feminine with the surgery. I'm probably having surgery with Dr G in 2016;))! Good luck

Yes! Balance is key. Hopefully I will have mine in 2016 too. Good luck !

When you come out on the other side, people are going to judge your reasoning for the nose job, but I think your beautiful results from Dr. G will overshadow all that, and those closest to you will agree that yes, your nose has improved for the better. I hope I make sense. I too, worry so much of other people's perception of me, especially from my church, that I've gone to every Sunday for the past 6 years and I know most people will judge me as vain, I'm thinking of wearing big glasses to hide it! Also, I am Hispanic and have in-laws that are very conceited about their looks and they look down on people that don't look Euro enough. As if natural beauty were some sort of virtue! Do you know what I will say to any of their rude comments? I reshaped my nose for the same reasons you reshape your eyebrows, honey. With them, I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't do surgery. Lastly, I believe you will be so happy with your result, that you won't even care for the possible negativity. I can't wait to see your results. I pray everything goes well.
August 15, 2015
I think you have to do it for you and no one else. Please don't work about other people's perception of you. You make the best choices you can and that's all you can do. I'm not sure how people in your church will respond but I know that Jesus loves you and he understands our struggles even with our appearance. I hope your church reflects that. If they do not then just give them grace and realize they are not spiritually mature and let it go. good luck and prayers for a great outcome.

These sort of threads and emotional support is just what I need.
Thank you, ladies.
My "girlfriends" say they won't judge me but I've known them since middle school so I know what I have.
I keep thinking to myself, "we all have imperfections, im just willing to take the leap of faith towards change." (Not to say I judge those who don't make any efforts to change what they don't like themselves.)

And honestly, in-laws are meant to judge, otherwise, how else would life be so interesting?! Lol. My mother in law hates tattoos and I have several and she loves them. So with that said, rhinoplasty- Here we come!

I'm a similar situation. I'm a recent grad and I also wanted this SO much since I was in high school. I have done some much research and I really do feel the Dr. G is excellent at what he goes. My second consultation is on Dec of this year when is yours?
User Avatar
August 15, 2015
Yes, I like his style. I know some individuals don't like the "cookie cutter" type surgeons. But Dr. G has a great track record.

I have my first consultation in September, I've been waiting for two months! I can't wait. I've had two consults with two other docs(I wont name them because they're widely popular on this site) and I did not like their bedside manner. I truly need to feel comfortable with the doc and I didn't feel that with either of the previous two.

I think it's wise to consider repercussions. You have to look at all the what ifs and be informed. I think your choice of Dr is a great start. I will be having my revision with him in March I hope. My breathing is a little worse than before but aesthetically it's not good. I really never thought I would have to have a revision. I chose a double board certified ent. I thought I had my bases covered. Well here I am looking to have it redone but you know what I'm still glad I did it or am doing it again I guess. I think it will be worth it in the end. Do it while your young and enjoy it.

Finally met with Dr. G

First things first, this physician's beside manner is phenomenal. He entered the room carrying a number of items -as any MD does- placed them onto the counter alongside me, pulled up a chair, looked me in the eyes and said, "So, what are we doing here?" Sadly, I haven't had a physician's undivided attention like this since I was a child. He asked me what changes I was looking for, if I had any reservations about surgery and what were my financial means to achieve my goals. He gained my trust in a matter of seconds.

Upon reviewing my nose from outside and within, he began voicing his recommendations. I have a deviated septum which I never realized I had until he plugged one nostril, pulled the opposite cheek to the side and asked me to breathe... I BREATHED. It was almost paralyzing for me, I had never noticed how congested I am. Occasionally, I have noticed a bit of a wheeze but I suppose I'm so busy that I've never really dedicated more than a thought to it. I do have a routine of going to a clinic and have decongestants prescribed during Finals because I need as much sleep as possible before the end of the semester.

Anyhow, back to the consult. He suggested keeping the projection of my nose while shaving down the bump on the bridge of my nose. One of my reservations regarded the length of my face, I have a long face and I asked if it would look longer by reshaping my nose. He said, no-uh, we're keeping the projection of your nose. So he continued, he will tighten my nostrils in a bit so that they don't look, "so angry" ---his words, not mine. (I love that he can have a sense of humor and lighten the situation for the patient because I was so nervous). He will give my profile a 95 degree angle while reducing my bulbous tip. Yes, please!

He made one last recommendation that I was not expecting, he asked if I had a little extra fat "somewhere" (my entire family is skinny as a stick) so he asked to see my stomach. He tugged on the little pouch alongside my belly button that most women have and suggested extracting some fat from each side to place on my cheekbones. If you can see my pictures, I don't really have any cheekbones. I have a 'puffy' cheek when I am all smiles, like, cheek to cheek smiling. He stated it would make my facial features more ... well appealing. I am very hesitant about this because I am afraid of looking completely different after surgery. I do not, I repeat, I do not want to look like an entirely different woman. But, the idea of having some cheekbones is quite, comforting. I've always been defined by my nose which deterred me from being in pictures, videos, anything where I can look back at and be reminded yet again of my oversized nose. I spoke to my partner about it and she was not pleased with the idea one bit. But, I told her it is my face, my decision and if I choose to proceed then I will do just that. She seemed to take a step back at that point and reassured me she's on board with my rhinoplasty but anything beyond that is "too much". I have been giving it a lot of thought but not too much because the thought of having my surgery soon gets me all excited and riled up, I have school and work to focus on.

Nonetheless, I have had a skip or two in my walk since Wednesday. Laters' fellow realselfers.

Thank you my dear. I cannot wait to hear back from his office, I called on Friday and they hadn't gotten to verifying my insurance yet so I need to chill. All in due time.

As for the fat transfer, neither have I, I saw some pictures of Brazilian butt lifts he's done and they looked amazing! I haven't made my final decision on the fat transfer, I want to discuss it with him in more detail the next time I meet with him. If I recall correctly he suggested 10 cc's so I want to know how much fat that is exactly.
September 13, 2015
will your insurance cover any part of the surgery?
User Avatar
September 14, 2015
1000 cc is a litre so 100cc is a tenth of that. Then 10 is a tenth of that again. Probably like half a cup or less.
Oh the BBL yeah i cant stop looking that them. Now that my nose is fixed i cant help but want to do the fat transfer to butt!!! Lol

Not sure yet, I am waiting to hear back from his office but I will definitely post an update at that point. I am hoping so considering I have a deviated septum, I may have to write a letter to my insurance, hopefully it'll help.

You're so informative, thank you! That seems like a lot on my cheeks. I have been thinking of it lately and I am leaning towards it but we'll see.

I haven't posted a review yet, but I had rhinoplasty 4 weeks ago. I was terrified to do it, but I knew it had to be done, I had a huge nose. Now, looking back on it, I'm so grateful, I already feel way more at ease with myself. The difference for me was big, especially in my side profile, but nobody noticed. I ALSO CUT HAIR, which is a GREAT distractor, everyone notice my hair, and said I looked great/amazing/fantastic... Dr. G doesn't always have natural results, so proceed carefully if you're looking for natural. However, he does generally have good results, but you may look like a different person. I did not go to Dr. G, just know this from my research...

I see, do you have any before or after pictures? I'd love to see your results. I have seen many before and after' pictures of women with a similar nose to mine at Dr. G's office and I'm pleased with the results, thank you for the advice.

I am so glad to hear you're happy with your results. My colleague at work had a similar experience (I myself couldn't notice the difference) but the hair cut idea is GENIUS. Great suggestion, I'm going to do that because it would make me feel so much more at ease, specially at work.

How are you healing so far? Who did you choose as your surgeon? I have interviewed three MD's so far (Dr. G being one) and I did not like the others. They seemed like they were more interested in pushing quantity versus quality. With that being said, I kept searching and found Dr. G.

Thanks for the detailed account of your consult! Who else have you consulted with?

I'm sorry that you didn't have a favorable experience with your rhinoplasty surgery. What went wrong if you don't mind me asking?

I met with a doctor in Culver City, I don't want to say who because he's really popular on this website and don't want any defaming issues. But, he was just not for me, I did not like his bedside manner, he seemed rushed and just, smelled. Like B.O. That smell doesn't necessarily ring 'sanitary' in my head. Another in Bev Hills who I didn't like because of his offices practices (charged a certain amount upfront then would refund if surgery went through, too much mumble jumble). I like everything done in an organized manner with no doubt or questions about costs. Be straight up about your practices and financial policies. Period. So I disregarded him after that. Then, I met with Dr. G.

I received the best call today from Dr. G. Everything has gone through the insurance, they approved it! I can't believe they did, I am so excited and grateful to his office. They've made this entire process such hassle-free. I will have an out of pocket expense but it will be much lower than the original quote. My pre-op appointment is scheduled for the early days of December. I haven't yet decided about the fat transfer. I will discuss this in much more detail during my pre-op appointment. Until then, all I can do is wait...

That is amazing to hear!! How were you able to get your insurance to cover part of it? I'm really curious!
Did his office look into it for you or did you have to call yourself?
Very happy for you and cannot wait to see your results! Best wishes!!

Thank you, sweetie ! His office called for me and submitted the request of authorization. I obtained the CPT procedure codes from them today so I am going to call my insurance and verify benefits myself (it always helps to find out for ourselves) but they're billing a pretty penny. I'm still paying out of pocket but not as much. I hope it works out for you aswell!

That is amazing!! could you please tell us the insurance process?I am interested too!!

I have a deviated septum so his office called my insurance, submitted request of authorization, and it was approved! I do need to take photos to prove to the insurance that it is a valid claim.

Ahhh its right around the corner. Good for you! Are you mentally ready? I've had little pep talks to myself while stuck in traffic, lol. I can't seem to think of anything but my surgery lately, it's a combination of excitement, anxiety and more excitement!
