How do I put this nicely?
My naturally oily skin was looking it's age, wrinkles, spots, age spots and odd textural issues. It was totally grassing me up as a 40-something-year-old.
Not what I wanted.
Thanks to a quirk of fate my Doc started me on the Obagi Nu-derm (Normal to Oily).
It is dead easy to follow, makes falling off a log look complicated.
Steps 1-5 and with AM and/or PM printed on the tubes so you know when to use it, followed by a "hydrator" (am I so old now that the word "moisturiser" has gone out of fashion?).
Then I also have a 0.05% tretinoin cream to mix half/half with step 5 and use every 3 days.

I'll try and find out exactly what steps 1-5 do. I guess my usual technical explanation of "magic" won't quite cut it here!
**Totally taken from their website (ish)**
Step 1 Foaming gel - Gently removes makeup and everyday impurities for a clean, fresh complexion, and then...
Step 2 - Tone - Non-drying toner helps adjust the pH of your skin, and then...
Step 3 - Clear - Effective prescription-strength hydroquinone helps correct the appearance of age and sun spots for a healthier, more even skin tone, and then...
Step 4 - Exfoderm Forte - A lightweight lotion that helps exfoliate the top layer of the skin, removing dull, old skin cells, while revealing new skin cells for a brighter complexion, and then...
Step 5 -Blender - A unique formula containing prescription-strength hydroquinone for the gradual lightening of sun spots, age spots, and other types of discoloration, and then...
...there is a Hydrate -A moisturizing cream to be used as needed to soothe areas of dry, flaky skin (considered step 6 in some kits).
and then... Sun Shield Matte Broad Spectrum SPF 50 - A sunscreen that combines UVA and UVB protection in an elegant matte finish that is non-comedogenic, allergy tested, and dermatologist tested. Sheer, PABA-free, and fragrance-free for all skin types.
(*and then..? ...No and then! *movie reference, smug face points awarded if you are doing the voice when reading it!).

Anyway, I've sworn and oath to Doc that I will keep faithful to this for 2 months and I will not deviate, flirt with or abuse other products (apart from my usual factor 50 + cream already, oops!).

I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Thanks!
I'm 2 weeks in and it is hard to tell the wood from the trees as I'm only newly post op from a FL so my skin in producing even more oil than usual.
The first applications of tretinoin (thatI do every 3 days) have me a little sun burnt-esque the following day and I've noticed a few little pimples cropping around the mouth and chin areas in particular. These do then prickle later when the step 4 goes on.

I've not had any dry skin (possibly because of being post-FL) but I have had skin slough off in the same way that peeling sunburned skin comes off with sun protection is slathered off over the top. Either that or if you soaked a shedding snake in a bucket of oil overnight... ...you get the picture!
I think that it is wise if you are doing this treatment that you go heavy on the moisturiser (my old fashioned mistake, hydrator) the night of, and day after the tretinoin application.

I'm getting compliments on my skin, but it may be that people are noticing the facelift changes and attributing them to my new skincare regime.
I'll keep you posted on further changes and observations.

Sooooo, I was toddling along on the Obagi nu derm, getting the hang of it;
red/scaly day, spotty day, shedding day (and repeat).

Not that I was getting much in the way of redness, only on occasions.
The shedding was more like a slight camo-effect under my foundation and then it would all slough off in the shower.

I couldn't really work out what people were talking about when they mentioned their degree of flaking and peeling... ...THEN Christmas came around!

My usual 2 showers a day didn't happen and I realised that Boxing day I had an small but noticeable skin-shed by my chin.
Oh how attractive!
I also found that I was getting dry/sore patches on my face.

Once I got back to 2 showers a day the issues resolved themselves.

So my tip would be shower and let you face soak in the water for about 5 minutes before going at it with a face cloth.

I'm so grateful for your info and will definitely be watching this space for updates! You're well ahead of me, I'm only on day 5 of mine and was wondering by day 3 whether it was worth it! My Dr put me on daily tretinoin (0.01%) but I've already switched to every other day as my chin was already uber sore by day 3. I'm hoping to stick with it (believe me, I'm not a wuss) but have already contemplated shoving the whole lot on eBay! The things we women do, eh?! :o)

Are you using the cream solo or mixing it with a moisturiser?

I've noticed if I skip any of the moisturising steps then I get sore/dry/scabby/scaly patches on my skin.
Maybe try every other day or every 3 days if you are having such a reaction too?
Either that or tell me your eBay seller name ;P (I jest!).

I'm into a routine...

I pretty much sing this to myself in the shower to the tune of Big Bopper Chantilly Lace while I'm sloughing my skin off with a flannel/wash cloth!

A scaly face and a scabby place,
And a shed of skin hangin' down.
The scattering of spots to treat with cream dots.
Spread it all around, round, round.
Ain't nothing in the world like a big pored girl
To make me shriek so funny, make me spend my money
Make my skin peel off loose and from my neck too.
Smooth now like a baby, that's a-what I like!

I caught a rare flaking moment on camera.
As long as I shower twice a day and give my face a good soak for about 4 minutes (while I'm cleaning my teeth) then the dead skin comes off with a flannel and I don't get flaking that is noticeable to the human eye.
I have also realised I can't skip any of the moisturisers or I go flaky and sore.

I can't say I'm less oily or that I've smaller pores (yet) but my skin is noticeably smoother.
I will persist!

How long after your FL did you start using Obagi Nu-Derm? I am 6 weeks post FL and upper and lower Bleph - I'm through looking like a puffer fish but still numb and bruised and some of my skin is still sore. I did Obagi for 6 weeks pre surgery and I am keen to start again. PS says go for it at 6 weeks but I would welcome a second view!
