I had a septorhinoplasty with Mr Piet Haers in the...
“I will lift the root of the nose under the forehead, straighten the nasal dorsum and septum as much as possible and reduce the tip projection.” and... “The procedure will involve osteotomy of the nasal bones, straightening of the septum with inferior resection of the septum and correction of the vomer to assure good nasal breathing.”
It sounded great, but in actual fact was a botched procedure. I have ended up with a very prominent supra-tip break, a bridge that is too low relative to the tip and a overly narrow bridge which is still not straight and nasal valve collapse (which I can see quite clearly when I breathe in).
After surgery I noticed my nose seemed 'longer' - an observation which mr Haers denied. However in a recent note he said: "In essence, I removed the spine and the lowest portion of the septum in the front to bring the nasal tip down". To me, this is the same thing as lengthening the nose.
The worst part of the whole experience was that I woke up with stitches in my MOUTH. He never told me that he would make an incision in the gum line to move down 'the floor of the nose', but later said that he did it in many of his patients and had never had any complaints (which I doubt is true). So my recovery was far more difficult than I expected, especially given as he made me keep gauze in the nose for over a week post-OP.
So I now have a weird looking nose with worse breathing post-OP, despite paying £5000.
Overall hugely disappointed with a surgeon whom I thought would have great skills, especially given that he was the former President of the IAOMS (International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons).
I feel as if he performed a similar surgery on me to what he does on Cleft patients with nasal problems, and I am reaping the consequences.
Provider Review
Seemed like a great surgeon with plenty of expertise so I had no reason to doubt him. He gave me some free consultations in fairness, but still bitterly disappointed by such a poor outcome. He claimed my nose was one of the worst he's seen (in terms of its deviation and asymmetry) but I've seen far worse online and they had great results with other doctors who managed to eliminate the asymmetry completely. Perhaps he is better at maxillofacial surgery than rhinoplasty because instead of keeping my nose similar to how it was but correcting the deformity, he radically altered the entire structure.
