Nearly 2 Months Knee Complex Surgery
I want to start off by saying Dr Su is a miracle worker and I mean this from the bottom of my heart. I would have actually wanted to do a video diary to show my transformation because that is exactly what it is, but I hope you guys can still get the essence of change from the review and images attached. Please feel free to contact me here for any further information. I have followed Dr. Su for almost 7 years, but from the moment I saw his work knew if anyone will correct my genetic problems (effectively a tendency to carry unsightly fat deposits on the lower extremities and arms, also known as lipodema) its Dr Su.I live in London so I had to make sure Dr Su was the best choice out of all the fantastic Dr's available in Europe. Plus in addition to the price of surgery, there were other financial implications I had to consider -hence the 7 year wait. All worthwhile in the end.
I had full body liposuction in my early 20s, adding two teenaged sons to the mix, a sprinkle of age (I am in my early 40's) and lipodema and the results are what my legs look lie before surgery, even though I worked out 5 days a week, weight training in particular.Booking the surgery with Dr. Su was very straight forward. All done via email, with pictures showing me my new shape and then a call with him a few weeks before I flew out to confirm the process and go over any questions I had. Because I flew in from London I decided to make a proper trip of it and take time after my surgery another 12 days to recover before flying out (best decision I ever made).
Dr Su's nurses are all lovely and will give you instructions before your surgery, follow everything they say. What I will add, is that before you have this surgery, its best to try and be as physically fit as possible as this will help during the procedure, aid with recovery and with your results.
Dr Su is very knowledgable and after a short briefing gets straight to business. I heard alot about the pain during numbing before my procedure, so I mentally prepared myself for it. In all honesty it was not that bad, it does feel like little bee stings (although I think bee stings are worse) or just quick uncomfortable moments where you have to hold your breadth for a second, if that. What I found quite uncomfortable, which many of the videos I watched did not mention is the discomfort you feel during the procedure. This is because, Dr Su is aiming for maximum best results, so not only does he expect you to tense your muscles in a very serious way (proper boot camp style) he needs to also blend the worked on areas with ares he is not necessarily working on, meaning at times he has to go near areas that are not numbed and if you want to look good, at those moments you need to dig deep and manage the discomfort. However, there are no moments of proper pain that made me want to shout or cry.
The procedure was quick, around an hour and both legs were done. I did some final prep (meds, compression garments and scheduling my next day check-up) with Raechelle, his nurse who is adorable and I was on my way home to the hotel. More than anything I was extremely tired, like I had engaged in a 10 hour workout and off course had begun swelling, but nothing major, no serious pain as I had started the strong painkillers before and during the procedure.
My mobility was compromised and I just needed bed. I was prepared with food and drinks for the next couple of days, but taking Dr Su's advise I had no plans of staying in bed after the procedure day to prevent blood clots. In terms of timing.I arrived at the clinic at 7am, by 9-10am I was back at the hotel and in bed. I basically slept the entire day. I woke up at around 8pm needing to use the bathroom (Restroom for my America friends) and my God. The painkillers had worn off whilst I was asleep. I can only explain the pain that hit me when I stood up as an extreme intense burning, that made me scream out loud, nearly cry and shove one of the strong pain killers in my mouth immediately. After that experience, I decided to take everyones advise from the reviews and Raechelle, which is to stay on top of the pain. If you feel the painkillers wearing off top up, which after the first day was around every 6 hours for me.However, WARNING! The strong painkillers belong to the opioid family of medications which are highly addictive. I was aware of this so intentionally begun weaning myself off by day two. By day 3 I took them twice and by day 4 had stopped completely.
I recovered extremely quickly, although I continually swelled to my original shape and even a bit more as Dr' Su explained would happen. But by day 7 all pain associated with walking and driving was gone, obviously there was pain and bruising to the actual areas when touched, but I was very much back to normal. I actually begun driving again on day 4 when I was no longer on the strong medication and drove myself back to Miami from Tampa. I had to take one of two breaks to walk around during the drive to prevent clots from forming.Although I understand some people fly back home the next day, I am so glad I did not make this arrangement for myself and would advise everyone to have a full day or two to allow your body to recalibrate.
Things I did that may have helped with recovery.1- From day 2 was walking around with breaks for a minimum of 30 minutes. As I was on holiday I found myself at times out and about nearly all day. It may have made me swell but actually I did not get the swollen ankles or swelling inn other areas apart from those worked on, which I was told could happen. I also feel like staying mobile helped me to regain myself faster.2. By day 3 I was back in the gym, but just working upper body3. I stayed away from salts and processed foods in general, taking in anything whole foods especially those good for inflammation. Whole nuts, Celery, lots and lots of water and every other day a high dose of cod liver oil, amongst other vitamins.4. Dragons blood - Amazing healed my scars so well and good to fight infection. I used it everyday after a shower (maybe order another bottle in advance as I ran out). I also used aromatherapy oils that are good for inflammation and relaxation, namely Frankincense, Myrrh, and Lavender oil, mixed in a carrier of almond oil. And every other night after a shower carried out self lymphatic drainage.5. I have recently (6 weeks post surgery) begun applying steroid impregnated tape to the incisions to flatten them our completely. Although, they are not really raised I am just being extra.6. I am also using bio oil to address the hyperpigmentation around the scars which is working a treat, fading them very quickly.7. Definitely order a stage 2 compression garment, the one Dr Su provides is good for post surgery recovery but to see those special results I recommend a tighter compression garment. I also wear for a couple of hours before bed on top of my stage 2 compression garments knee bandage straps for weight lifting (bought from amazon ) which help maintain compression as the areas shrink down post swelling.Overall Dr Su, is worth the money, any pain or sacrifice you need to make to be treated by him. I have not worn any items past my knees in decades and I have ordered a truck load of skirts and shorts for winter in London, I can't wait for summer 2022.
If you are considering Dr Su, go for it he is one of the best and not a [RS bleep] like many I have met in the past. He is matter of fact and will tell you honestly what he can do for you.
