An Amazing Dr

Four weeks ago, I underwent lipedema surgery with Dr. Adam Schaffner in New York, and I wanted to share my experience.

Before traveling to New York, I had never really heard of lipedema. It is still largely unknown in my country, and I only became aware of it through my own research and curiosity. Since I was already planning to be in New York, I decided to schedule a consultation with Dr. Schaffner to better understand whether what I had been experiencing for years could actually be lipedema.

From the very first consultation, I felt an immediate sense of trust and comfort. Dr. Schaffner listened carefully, answered every question with patience, and explained everything in a way that made me feel completely at ease. There was a natural connection and confidence that led me to make a decision I had not anticipated before walking into his office: I decided to proceed with surgery.

My procedure focused on the areas around my knees and upper thighs. I also chose to undergo the surgery under local anesthesia, having already experienced another surgical procedure earlier that month.

The entire experience exceeded my expectations. Dr. Schaffner is not only an exceptionally skilled surgeon, but also a genuinely kind and compassionate physician. His professionalism, patience, and availability throughout the process were remarkable. During my stay in New York, I visited his office every few days so he could monitor my recovery and answer any concerns. He repeatedly reminded me that the final results would take time, but even after just one month, I can already see and feel a significant difference.

For years, I felt that something was not right with my legs. I experienced heaviness and discomfort that I could not fully explain. Today, I finally feel that I have answers, and more importantly, hope.

An essential part of this journey was the post-operative care. Immediately after surgery, Dr. Schaffner referred me to Lisabeth Real Swell for lymphatic drainage therapy. I cannot speak about my experience without mentioning her. Lisabeth is simply an angel. Every session left me feeling lighter, as if I were floating. Despite the post-surgical heaviness, I would leave her office feeling like a butterfly taking flight. Her expertise, kindness, and dedication made a tremendous difference in my recovery.

I am now back home and continuing my lymphatic drainage sessions with a local therapist. Recovery is still ongoing. There is discomfort at times, and healing requires patience, but that is part of the process. I continue to wear my compression garments, attend my therapy sessions, follow all post-operative instructions, and trust the journey.

I know that the final results will continue to improve over the coming months, and I look forward to returning to New York in four or five months for my follow-up.
