Unprofessional Cancellation & Financial Loss – My Experience with Face Toronto
scootapuffAugust 11, 2025
I began my process with Face Toronto on November 25, 2021, planning to have an upper and lower blepharoplasty and a lip lift. I paid my consultation fee, deposit, and full surgery cost for a total of $33,335 CAD, all in cash from my retirement account (no loan or credit card).
My surgery date was set for September 3, 2025. I had already booked and paid for my hotel, car rental, and a caretaker who reserved two weeks to help me recover.
On August 5, 2025, less than 30 days before surgery, Dr. Liu called for my pre-op questions and instructions. Out of nowhere, I was told I now needed to get an eye exam by an eye doctor. I explained this was the first time I was hearing about it and that arranging an appointment within three weeks while working full time and traveling from Miami to Toronto would be extremely difficult. I even asked if I could use Walmart’s vision center (common in the USA), but Dr. Liu said “No.”
She mentioned possibly getting a waiver and said she would call me back that day but never did. That same day, I made my final payment, which they accepted without issue.
The next morning, I received a voicemail from Shannon asking me to call. She informed me that Dr. Jamil Asaria had canceled my surgery, claiming he “felt” I would not like the results. I was shocked because canceling a fully paid surgery based on a “feeling” made no sense.
When I spoke with Dr. Asaria later, he accused me of “refusing” the eye exam, something I never said or did. The truth is, I was still waiting for Dr. Liu’s promised call about the waiver. I found it deeply unprofessional and dishonest to twist my words into a refusal.
Although they refunded most of my payment, I lost several hundred dollars due to the currency exchange rate, plus the costs of my hotel, rental car, and caretaker. The entire situation was handled poorly, with no accountability and no effort to resolve the inconvenience they caused.
Bottom line: This clinic can cancel your surgery at any time for any reason, even after you have paid in full and made all arrangements. Their staff will back each other regardless of the facts, and you may be left with financial losses and no procedure. I recommend looking elsewhere to avoid the risk of going through what I did.
